My buddy, Richie, passed away last Thursday, after his battle with Pancreatic cancer. I hadn’t seen him, face to face, in many years, but I talked to him, on the phone, every week. Every time we talked, he talked about coming out to California-to see the Redwoods with the wife and I. I mistakenly thought we had more time. Never take a moment, for granted, as you’re never promised tomorrow. I miss you, brother. I’ll see you, when I get there. ❤️ Tank

Man this song hits so damn hard years later. I'm in my late 20s now & I remember hearing this song on the radio & singing along when I was a child almost every single weekend during our 2 hour drive up to the camp site with my Dad. He passed away last year in April & just hearing music like this brings me right back to those simpler times with him, & reminds me of the amazing childhood he gave me. It makes me so sad that those days are over & will never come back, but also extremely grateful & happy I was given those memories to begin with. It's the weirdest combination of emotions that's impossible to explain unless you've felt it before.
@joevanseeters28734 ай бұрын
This song was cool with the fact that Uncle Kracker got Dobie Gray himself to come back and sing alongside him as a duo. This was a perfect combination of vocals and the fact that the man himself who made the song famous joined Uncle Kracker in this cover. Gray was 62 years old when the song was released and it broke records for Kracker around Gray's 63rd birthday. The song remained #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts an astonishing 28 weeks, a record that has yet to be broken, while garnering other records for Kracker. The brilliance of bringing Gray on board as a duo artist was a master stroke for Kracker and resurrected Gray's popularity once again. Gray passed away in 2011 from complications of cancer surgery in Nashville, TN. He bequeath his entire estate to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children and also to help the blind.

I remember listening to this song in the radio when I was at least 6 or 7, my family and I were in the car heading to LA and I remember clearly the snowy mountains next to the freeway as the song played and I sang along not knowing that after 18 years later , I have forgotten and knew nothing about the title, my husband would find the song in a random meme and I just happened to over hear it and decided to search for it. Now going through anxiety and depression and reading the lyrics as I listened to it again made me tear. Who would've thought that this song could have destined for me to find it after all these years just to know that it relates to what Im going through now and as for the person this song is meant to be dedicated to, I'm grateful to have someone who tries his best to support me just so he can see me smile and enjoy the little to big things in life and I couldn't be more grateful of him, and that someone is my husband.

The media hones in on the few. I certainly don't think the people they hone in on are the many, although MSM would like us to think so. Politicians want to divide people, & MSM helps them. Then they get their own people, evidently paid & start something, then bail them out of jail. Have you heard about some of the states that aren't even going to hold people in jail for terrible crimes, they are just going to release them. I think one of the states is Pennsylvania. I suspect people who can afford to will move, if they aren't too old, or attached because they have too many family members in states like that. It is a shame. There are undoubtedly going to be problems.

Don't get me wrong, Doobie Gray's original make of this song is great, of course. That being said, so grateful Uncle Kracker gave more life to this song. So many great songs have died along with their generations. I have much love and respect and so much appreciation for bands brave enough to cover legendary tracks, such as this one.

This was one o f my favorite songs by Dobie Gray in the 70's. My son heard this version and LOVED it!. In 2004, he died in a car accident at 16 yrs. old. I requested our local radio to play this sond at a certain time on the day of his funeral. Then I asked everyone in the funeral procession to tune in, roll down their windows and crank it up. We played it from the funeral home to the cemetery. HERE'S TO YOU. Michael!!!!!!!!!

What a classic song! First heard it in elementary school in an Allen Iverson highlight mix as a kid and loved it. It hits different now as an adult. The world is a lot more different than it used to be. Family and work put so much burden on us, and things don’t always work out the way we want them to. But this song gives us a relief, and a break from all of these. Drifting away is such a luxury in these days.

"Drift Away" is a classic rock song originally written and recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972. It has been covered by numerous artists over the years, but one of the most popular versions is by Uncle Kracker. Uncle Kracker's version of "Drift Away" was released in 2003 as a single from his album "No Stranger to Shame". The song features a smooth, laid-back melody and Uncle Kracker's signature raspy vocals. It quickly became a hit, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning a gold certification from the RIAA. The song's message of wanting to escape the stresses of life and just "drift away" has resonated with listeners for decades. Its catchy chorus and memorable lyrics make it a favorite for sing-alongs and easy listening radio stations. Despite the success of "Drift Away", Uncle Kracker has stated in interviews that he never intended to become a solo artist. He was originally a DJ for Kid Rock's band, but started writing his own music during downtime on tour. "Drift Away" was just one of the songs he recorded and it ended up launching his solo career. The song has been covered by many other artists over the years, including Dobie Gray, who originally recorded it in 1973, and Rod Stewart. It has also been featured in several movies and TV shows, such as "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Scrubs". Overall, "Drift Away" has become a timeless classic that continues to be enjoyed by music fans of all ages.

@@dansharp3092 Indeed, "Drift Away" was written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972. The version by Dobie Gray, released in 1973, became the more widely recognized and successful rendition, and it's likely this version that inspired Uncle Kracker's cover in 2003. The song's enduring popularity across various interpretations underscores its timeless quality and ability to resonate with different generations of listeners. Each artist brings their own style and flavor to the song, contributing to its rich history in the world of popular music. Thank you for providing additional details about the origins of "Drift Away."
