30 mil was the upgrades/fix's. The main construction was paid by the US tax payer.
@kingjamesgorden313 күн бұрын
What he spent is somewhat equivalent to 1960’s dollars in the USAFs cost to build it. The Atlas silo cost about 1.5m to build in the 60’s, which about 12m today. Add 3m for the missile itself, that’s 24m today for 36m total in today’s dollars. Buying these silos is relatively cheap depending on the model, because the government rarely ever worries about turning any sort of profit. So his 30m was absolutely spent almost in its entirety on the upgrades. Believe me, having seen what the DoD does with discarded or surplus gear that cost an arm and a leg to build or contract out, I am keenly aware of how much is wasted. However, these silos are actually quite affordable.
@kingjamesgorden313 күн бұрын
My personal opinion is that 1. ALL these sites are known about by the government, so that’s a huge negative. 2. The big question is, will you even make it there? I mean, if SHTF, are you sure your private helicopter is functioning, and if it’s not, you really trusting your safety to the roads, where everyone and their mother will be headed to the same region to their own bunkers? Which leads to 3. Once the word is out there are bunkers, everyone along your planned route to “safety” will be either trying to join you or figure out a way to take your place. Which is why if you’re going this route, it would be way better to go into a community like they have in places like SD or MT. They have old weapons shelters that you can buy for 50k, and outfit as you like. But EVERYONE there has to contribute something with regards to employment to the community, and they have their own security (not just two guys at a gate). The biggest concern to me for one of these shelters is the air. They built systems to filter the air, but these were never built to repel ground assaults. Unless he has made significant improvements to that ventilation system, not just for fallout but to camouflage it from folks who can clearly see the giant bunker right there. If they can’t get in, they may try and force you out. Given the amount he spent, I would imagine alternate air supplies have probably been put in place.

As an hvac engineer, i dont know much about a bunker of this type, but common sense would tell me, you should have overflow pans under your air handlers, and your condensate lines should be run into a water treatment still so the moisture that your air conditioning pull from the air can be recovered and recycled. There should be no waste in a facility like this. Curious where you have placed your condensor s also, as thermal transfer can also be used in creative ways to heat or cool space without wasting energy.

I think a lot of people are just curious about this because everyone thinks about this scenario. I think its perfectly legitimate to talk about what people would do if they had that themselves and put themselves in that postion. What do you do when you have a pharmacy, a dentist office, and a doctors office with no pharmacist, dentist, or doctor. The pharmacist may not be so important but to get the drugs in there since they are certified you would need one working there so they probably just have some otc drugs and antibiotics. Its possible they arent telling people everything but he sounded pretty honest when he said the place is basicaly staffed by a couple building managers. I know he said that there are owners that can fill these roles but that relies on everyone making it there. Theres a ton of variables that could be an issue that people enjoy thinking through but obviously it would be aweseom to own a unit regardless. But without discussing the pros and cons how to people start making their own plans. I can afford a unit theoretically but Id still lean on getting my own at home eventually. Im open minded but that requires thinking about these things.

Yup. These things are nothing but scams aimed at naive paranoid rich people. Bunkers are literally the place where people die right after the disaster event. Hollywood movies have warped the minds of so many people that they have no clue how reality works. Even the rich owner would just jump on a plane or helicopter and fly to a place that is safer. That's only if they survive the initial event, considering these people do not regularly live in this bunker, they would be long dead before they would have time to get to the bunker. So stupid.

Normally you would have three generators not just two, one working, one standby and the other repair/service, plus a minimum of two diesel tanks, you don't just fill diesel in a large tank and run a generator from it, if you are looking for long term reliability. I would have also a lot more questions about survivability of this complex. It is more show than realistic, if it took a hit many of the systems would go offline never to return. Good luck to its occupants if they ever need to use it.

There's a lot to discuss regarding the reality of maintaining a complex system like this (an entirely necessary separate technical discussion). First... two major immediate points that I would consider are... location and who gets a ticket in. Likely the reality is... this Kansas facility is only a "Mockup." What is a Mockup?" Look up what a Mockup Platform is. Now... Think about it... If I am going to spend 30 million dollars for my bunker, I will just go ahead and spend 31 million, an extra 1 million for the land purchase somewhere... Hmm... let's see... like on an island in the Southwestern Pacific Ocean perhaps? In a full nuclear exchange, necessitating you needing to live in a hole in the ground, America is target number one. Also serves as a nice psychological operation, attracting and diverting the attention of those who are dumb enough to think the "elites" are actually going to flee to the number one target location on the planet. As many have pointed out, the likely unskilled occupants (unable to fix the inevitable maintenance issues) will have to come out, likely sooner than they will expect. That is unless the occupants of the bunker have the necessary technical skills and tools to maintain this facility long term. Final point... this facility is going to need to be somewhere, away from the starving hordes (think survival of the fittest if you have to come out early), where the land you will occupy is least affected by the initial blasts and the years of nuclear fallout that will ensue. You're going to immediately need to start growing food in an uncontaminated, unzombified landscape that has the necessary natural resources or you will have of course only temporarily put off your starvation, your misery and eventual death.

This is truly a monument to human ingenuity. It may be ridiculous but the engineering is beyond impressive. What an accomplishment.

Not ridicolous but how they mantain electricity in a total war situation?? And also air ricycle would be a problem i guess..

all the automation is the Achilles heel this is super impressive but if there is truly an event where this place is occupied it will work fine for a few months but stuff will break especially the IT type stuff -- they would need warehouses full of spares for any longevity I think Ron nailed it the lack of staff to support this is a key take away no question its impressive but for real survival I think it will breakdown over time.

That's why it's better to work with other people on the surface, not stuck in a bunker. It's not like the movies where it's every man for themselves. Humans won't go crazy and start killing each other, we will come together, cooperate with each other and rebuild. This bunker is cool but in the long run, it's unrealistic. Things will breakdown as you said, who will have spare parts or the expertise to fix these things, the staff? If it was truly the end of the world, what makes you think the staff will just do what they are told, they won't be getting paid or anything. They will probably leave or take over the bunker. The food will run out, then what? These bunkers are only great for short term, but not long term.

@@rickace132- i strongly disagree. The worst among us with no prep and all the greed and self preservation will band together and begin looting. Sure eventually alliances will form. But, initially, consider it the purge. Only the strong and intelligent. Check the DHS’ 2019 posting of grid down scenario. They said 90% of US pop would be expired WITHIN SIX (6) MONTHS. Due to looting, desperation and disease.

Great point. The last place you're going to escape to is Kansas. People who spend this kind of money are expecting an early warning.... it's not possible to get to a remote bunker like this without being in the know. This test bed, serves a teaching, demonstration, design evaluation, simulation, promotion, etc. etc. platform.

Would be nice if you could grab a couple of wireless clip-on mics for showcases like these so the voices don't echo throughout the entire bunker, sometimes it was hard to hear what was being said. Amazing video nonetheless!
