Have you ever tried crack climbing? Climbing without gloves or tape is absolutely unsustainable. You will injure yourself, and you will need to stop climbing.

Im saying this from experience climbing with gloves or tape is NECESSARY! Edit :With that gloves are a lot more environment friendly!
