How much was the engine modified, if at all? I used to have a 2013 S5 with the same engine, and I NEVER heard supercharger whine no matter how much I thrashed it. My E55 is a different story, but this thing, never.

Tanner Young Well if it was an S5 and not an S4, it more than likely had a N/A V8 without a supercharger. Of course, that engine even without exhaust work sounds better than this S4.

Traded in my 2014 5.0 in for a 2009 BMW 135i. 5.0 was full bolt on and getting stomped by my friend's 2007 335i (same engine and turbos as my 135i). I couldn't get over how easy it is to mod, how much cheaper it is, and how much nicer the interior is even for being 5-7 years old. I traded in my iconic American Muscle car in for a BMW and I will never go back lol. The BMW has proven itself to me. Such a better ride quality and the luxuries... don't even get me started. It just has a Stage 1 tune right now but here soon it'll be full bolt on and I will hunting down the American Muscle cars and disappointing quite a few people.

Tune cost less than an exhaust and gives 50 - 60 more horses, add a pulley and you may get 20 more. An exhaust only alerts the cops your on your way. whyyyeeeee......

KingZD1 , it’s relatively expensive but it’s a just price for the car it is. Haven’t spent too much and I’ve had it for 40K miles so far. Currently at 95k. It’s such a quick car, I’ve kept up with hellcats so that’s saying a lot for a 333hp sedan. Sleeper is definitely the word for it! 🤙🏽

A bolt on 5.0 will dust these, I beat 2 of them of the street with my 2v and was dead even with a twin turbo v6 audi, maybe driver error but 5.0 will dust these heavy audis. 330hp with almost 4000lbs will hurt performance

I found my answer. RocEuro 4.0T Intake System. A favorite upgrade for the B8 S4 crowd, this intake lets the supercharger be heard! This intake makes some simple power and sweet sound. Development and testing were performed on the B8 S4, yielding gains from 7-10hp at the wheels, on stock software. More substantial gains have been seen with ECU tuning. Many of our drag strip users have seen a tenth off in the 1/4 mile. This intake opens up throttle response and gives the car some character. Under casual driving, the intake is barely audible. Once you get on the throttle bit, you're rewarded with the awesome supercharger sound. Running it on a 3.2L? Enjoy the throaty increase in sound- its alsmost as if you've installed a little exhaust note as well!

This makes me miss my 2002 s4, those were the years with the twin turbo v6. Even with the turbo back exhaust there was almost zero outside noise. The cabin quality and even just the overall build quality was something special, you could feel the quality just when you shut the doors, no banging or rattle, just a "thud". The problem with that generation was the two front corner mounted intercoolers, they bolted onto the oil coolers and I had a slight spin out in the and snow though there was no visual damage it cracked the oil cooler and eventually ended in the demise of the car.

It's kind of a shame Audi can't decide what engine they want their cars to have. Over the years S4's have had inline 5 cylinder engines, V6 engines and V8 engines. Some NA, some supercharged, some turbocharged. The RS6 even had the V10 Lamborghini Gallardo engine at one point, now they gone away from that in favor of turbo V8. Make up your mind Audi..

well I think they're trying to find the best one for the long term, I got very unlucky and bought the a6 with the Biturbo 2.7 liter. very difficult to work on, very leaky, engine needs to come out just to change the exhaust or work on the turbo chargers ect. ect. 250 horsepower so pretty god damn good for a 2000

One thing I love and equally hate regarding this iteration of the s4 is how utterly smooth and linear the power delivery is. Frankly, it doesn't feel fast but you quickly realize that it is in fact tremendously faster than it actually feels. Truly is a wolf in sheeps clothing. i'm stage 2 . . . it is alright. Supercharger are great for tight tracks or when you need to get outta the way quickly. Turbos give more power but the lag on a big turbo is huge. Small turbos aren't as bad but if you have a 1000 hp car with a huge turbo you gotta get the enjine rev up to launch

A P.D (Positive Displacement) blower, such as a Eaton, Whipple, Kenne Bell, ect. are amazing for regular street driving. Instantaneous torque, and a very nice level torque curve. With just driving back roads and a regular driving situation, a centrifugal blower (ProCharger, Vortech, Paxton) and turbos can't beat the Positive Displacement blowers.

Do u really believe it's only 330hp? Motortrend keeps mentioning that audi is probably underrating this engine. This is a heavy ass car with Quattro and it can hit 60 in low 4 second range. Go search up Chris Harris' s4 where all he did was a tune and it ran almost as fast as the rs4. Some people even suspect that audi tuned down this engine so it wud not be as good as the 4.2v8 in the rs4 they have in Europe

Tanner Young​​ on of my good friend has an S4. I use to have a 13 SRT charger. Yeah the charger has more power but the s4 weighed about 400 pounds less. I use to rape him when we raced specially once we get over 60 mph. True story....once his car had 45k miles he started having a lot of problems with it. Took it to the audi dealership. They got him out of the lease and gave him a brand new one. He did have to start the lease over

They're just the midrange. The S4 competes with the 335i and C400. The performance models are the RS cars. That's what competes with AMG's and M's, etc. The S models are just midrange cars that Audi tries to make more special than the competition. An SRT Charger would be faster than the S4, but an RS4, nope. Too bad it's not coming here. Audi does as Audi do. Also, these cars are all in all, infinitely better platforms than most cars... crazily tune-able. As I said somewhere else, this V6T with some work is easily faster than the RS4, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I think people just mistake the special branding on this car and take it for something it's not. Think of it like this, the A4 is like a Golf, the S4 a GTI and the RS4 the Golf R. Not a perfect example because the GTI is a performance car, but the Golf R is in a whole other class that competes with cars double it's price and beats them all. This really isn't the performance car Americans think it is, just a more than the engine upgrade you get from the other big two.

Remember the S4 B5? This had a manual, V6, stunning body, and Quattro. Audi is just going back to the days where there was not needed a stonking V8, but a 'peppy' V6 as you call it. I personally prefer the S4 over the RS4 (manual possible, sedan possible, all the options in any form or combo you could think of). OT: That Audi though!!!
