Audi TT MK1 Catch Can Installation 1.8t 20v BAM

This is the kit that Cloude 9 Customs supply. The customer wanted me to remove all PCV and brake booster related pipes from under the intake manifold due to leaks. This can have a slightly negative effect on the amount of vac assist the brake servo recieves, but other variants like the APX run fine without that system ever being there, so don't worry too much for normal road driving.
key point is mounting the catch can at a good height, you don't want it too low which is why i use the position in the video.

2022... Great footage of all those hard to get too hoses. My TT is on a hoist at the moment, Thankful for that invention. Full 1-2nd selector fork pin snap and reverse gear damage. Dremel tool the reverse gears.. and the latest revision of the 6 speed selector forks. My flex coupling was destroyed and half my front swayer was missing. Ground away and I didn't even hear it. Might of been the previous owner, before last half fix.

I personally had A LOT of fun renewing various pipes and hoses on my AUM 1.8T. What started off as a breather hose turned into the whole lot being renewed. Basically Audi's of this age are a can of worms and if your gonna buy one as a project be prepared to renew a lot of these parts. Good vid, considering a catch can install now. My TT is remapped with decat, miltek, and piperx filter. Was getting 27.3mpg since the mods. Did this catch can install, now getting 32.3mpg! Not driving any different... Definitely worth the money 👍 Cheers to cloud 9 too

Hi @@blakkno666 Just purchased this same one for my TT 225 with remap. Car showing its losing boost on dyno and hopefully this will sort it. My mechanic fitting it next week said he's heard it may put lights on my dashboard once installed. Had any problems?? Be great if you could reply. 👍

@@Taxiboy112 nope no lights.. don't know why it would?? It may help boost issues, definitely. I was getting a twirruping noise from turbo when I change gear which is apparently a boost issue, but this hasnt fixed it. Still definitely worth doing though 👍

Do they make an inline setup to keep the vacuum source? I’ve found after removing vacuum sources on the 1.8t you get the white sludge build up on the oil cap and etc. This setup would only stop oil vapors from getting into your intake tube and remove a single hose and check valve but at a sacrifice, if you don’t have a vacuum source your no longer going to have the moisture and blow by crap being sucked out of your crankcase and valve cover and you’ll get that crap built up in the valve cover. Also with the setup you had just shown you actually no longer need the crankcase pressure regulating valve since it limits vacuum flow and pressures through the crankcase and the vacuum source is now capped off. Unless you were just using it as a barb to connect 2 female hoses. J.W. Thanks

I did this job exactly like shown in the video with the same catch can and now I have a sound coming from the engine that sounds like a horn, from around 2500-3500rpms. I can't figure out what is causing the noise. Sounds almost like a trumpet.

My 2002 AMU (Canadian model) has 2 relays in the box! Not a big deal. They still fit in the wire way.

@@BWSTT You make it look so easy! Took me a good 4hrs. Moving everything around and being extra careful not to break anything while doing the job. Just in front of the breather pipe I had a bracket with 3 connectors making it difficult to aces. Pipework was also tricky with the SAI combi-valve in the way. But thanks for the video. It was very helpful!

If a small piece of the plastic drops in the hole should i be worried or does it go straight to the sump which i can just clean out the sump?

Not sure what the engine being removed would make a difference to, but either way this is doing something different to the OEM system. Even if the OEM system is all renewed and works fine, there's still benefit to adding the catch can in aswell, so that the oily air is filtered instead of just being sent straight back into the system

Idk about urs but my 01 TT Quattro the intake is flipped.all hoses on right r on left. I also have to under the cover at oil stick I have vacuum lines and 3 connecters. I had to take off the intake to get to the hose

I bought the kit with the brass and cnc'd 90° elbow, have you fitted one of those before from cloud 9, and do I need to seal the thread when fitting the brass elbow to the alloy cnc'd insert??? PTFE the thread??? Thanks in advance, awesome video by the way ...!!!

Yeah I regularly use those now, I seal them with a bit of high temp RTV and they're fine. PTFE would probably be fine aswell

@@marklovesmandy651 Doing my APX now, the relay relocation part was a bit different, mine had a bigger relay plug, had to chop it in half to refit it in the wires box. The MAF plug and servo plug are a tight fit near the actual catch can, I wanna keep the stock air box. Definitely gonna need to unscrew bottom of catch can to take the MAF plug off when needed, which is fine. Also, the hard plastic pipe that goes from the breather to the puck, seems that is actually metal on mine, and it's bolted to the block with a screw, took it off, but be careful to put it back in because it also bolts the coolant pipe to the block (I noticed a little too late and lost some coolant). Those are the differences on my APX. For future reference is someone is doing theirs :)

This is the only catch can I can find online but it looks cheap and small, I know there is a forge one that has a glass window on it but it's expensive and I don't really want to relocate things to get this in.

With a 180 ATC, the n112 and n249 are tied together. If I wanted to keep the n112 for now would I plug the end that goes to the n249?

You run a vac line to the DV, but T into it under the inlet manifold and take a feed to the N112

You do realise the setup on this matches the APX from factory? Won’t lose brake pressure. But if you want to retain oem pipes under intake, just add it in and join to the oem pipe coming up to the rocker, simples.

@@theCinator what im saying is, if you ignore what engine youve got, the apx and the bam both have the same brake setup. The way vacuum is generated differs slightly, but vac assist is what aids braking. By doing what ive done in the video, you change the vac assist from bam style to apx style, so there’s non problem.

I purchased a kit from Cloude 9 and I am about to fit it but the end of the intake manifold looks a bit different from where the brake line mounts up. It’s completely unrelated to the forge valve, it’s the pressure regulation valve for the breather

Can you add catch can and not remove the piping under the manifold? Pro and con? Just replaced all those with 034 Motorsports silicone. A delete seems to be a waste but would like to benefit from catch can capturing the gunk.

Can’t get my engine block breather to push down far enough for the o ring to seal ,, i can’t get enough purchase on it to push it down far enough for the clip to go on top of it to hold it snug in place … I’m sure I’m not the only one ( any tips?)

In this scenario there a re a few potential causes. Sometimes there are bits of the old one on there. Sometimes the old O-ring is in there. Sometimes it just needs a thin smear of oil to allow it to seat properly

Thats exactly how I did mine too but threw out the puck. I later thought i should have kept it because it started holding a false idle. I think it could be because of the lack of puck but not sure. Ill refit one and see. Thought the puck opened more on acceleration? I have seen some people do open systems too on the TT. Not sure if thats ok for the engine management or its not. May depend on what type of ecu settings or type. That car needs a bigger TIP too haha..

@@nanopeepee955 I never really found out the answer. What i did find though was that i had excessive blow by confirmed with a compression test. That could have effected the idle. On disassembly i had a cracked head a bent rod and a worn cylinder. Ran well considering. Doing a big turbo forged build now to make it all better.

Yet the pcv system is still installed and this isn't a delete. All you've done is install a cheap £10 ebay special catch inline with a simplified pcv system. But still made the same mistake vw made with the relief system and when a blockage happens it will just blow the weakest part.

The PRV is still installed, the PCV isn't anymore, if you want to get technical. Other options include vent to atmosphere, or return to sump, and if you wanna make a fancy system you could Venturi it into the exhaust...... But since we are being responsible, we are keeping the PRV to keep the system running healthy

Very dirty engine from oil leaks....you need a rebuild and a turbo service and you don't need a "catch can" because after that there are no oil steams from everywhere.
