I have same I just removed middle resonator (big one in middle not cats) and its sound is just same .

Couple of questions RE install a) what diameter is the straight to delete the pre resonator ? (looks smaller than 2.5") b) for the 45 degree bend was it a short or long radius bend used ? I'm in the process of buying the bits to do this mod now.
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
That I don't know. I just bought the resonator and took it to an exhaust shop and told them to cut the old res and put the magnaflow in. If I were to do it again I'd probably do a Vibrant resonator instead. I have a Vibrant resonator swap on my Mk4 R32 and it sounds amazing. I think this Magnaflow is a little too quiet.
@anonamas42617 жыл бұрын
Blaylock1988 I thought I'd start with your original mod as I'm after something just a tad louder than stock with a little more noise on light throttle, I feel the stock exhaust is about 95% right, just needed that 5% extra VR6 sound to match the TT looks.
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
I think this Magnaflow res will do exactly what you're looking for then. Best of luck!
@anonamas42617 жыл бұрын
Blaylock1988 installed yesterday, wow, perfect this is how the TT should sound from factory.....revs a bit more free now as well plus throttle input feels more connected to engine...

Blaylock1988 hi I've seen this on the TT forum for a while and thought "damn hes cracked it" haha this vibrant resonator.. will it still give the mk4 r32 sound but louder?? Reason I ask is the r32 sounds amazing and I will be replicating what you have done! How come you used a 14" res and not chop it down like the R guys? As well would a powerflow res give the same sort of outcome? Cheers.

lovely sound! Does it still have the OEM suitcase muffler at the back?
@Blaylock19888 жыл бұрын
At the time it was just the Magnaflow 14" resonator, mid-pipe delete (before the resonator), and stock suitcase muffler.

Drone in the cabin?
@anonamas42617 жыл бұрын
HI Jason, i've done this to my 3.2 recently, zero drone, in fact under normal driving its exactly the same noise as stock, even on full throttle its only marginally louder...if not just a different sound.

Did your exhaust system have two pre-resonators or one? And did you cut one of the pre-resonators or both?
@Blaylock19883 жыл бұрын
It had just one pre-res, I think on the drivers side header. I removed that and replaced the main resonator with a magnaflow.

Where did you put the mic to record the sound ? Thanks
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
On the rear bumper, unfortunately it was a little too close to the exhaust tip so it picked up a lot of wind noise.

Nice setup. Was it easy to sync the audio to the video in post?
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
Yeah I always do a loud clap when everything is on to sync the audio together then cut it out in post. Super easy trick.
@sambutcher43447 жыл бұрын
+Blaylock1988 yeah I heard that was a good idea. I'm planning to get a dr-40 to record exhaust noise and syncing it with GoPro footage in iMovie / FCPX. You think it will be easy enough to do - or can FCPX do it automatically with time stamps?
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
I've only used Sony Vegas and KZbin to edit video so I don't know the capabilities of those other programs, but using timestamps may not be a good idea because 1) its impossible to turn on 2 devices at the exact same time unless it is computer controlled some way, and 2) even if you did turn them on at the same time, the clock in both devices would also have to be perfectly synced which is also pretty rare unless they are computers or have GPS built in for accurate timing.

I'm trying to get my Mk2 to sound like my mk1 3.2 did at stock. Hard to tell from this video if your mic is external, as I think the mk1 was probably nearly as loud as this. a) could you say it's still fairly quiet in the cabin? b) other than trying to keep volume low, and keep the butterfly valve in the system, my other goal is to get rid of the rattle noise the mk2 VR6 makes. Is it the resonator doing this? Can you buy a mid muffler instead? Does the one you bought try and do a little "rattle" on purpose? (Sounds tiny bit rattle to me) Cheers
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
Its an external mic mounted on the rear bumper. Its a good sound in the cabin, not too quiet but not loud for sure. I'm not sure what you mean by rattle noise though. Are you talking about raspyness?
@Scoupe4007 жыл бұрын
Blaylock1988 - hard to say. The old mk1 had a rasp, or say a mk5 golf r32. But the mk2 TT sounds as if it has metal plates rattling around in the exhaust as if to imitate a V8. It comes in at low frequency at say 2500rpm then increases frequency where it's probably getting raspy at 3500. I just find it a little grating; not a fan of it low down. The Mk1 was a little rattly on cold start, but warm it purred like a big cat, sat at idle and low speeds. I'm guessing this rattle is the resonator. It's not a horrible tinny (loose heat shield) type of noise. It just sounds false. (Thankfully not through the speakers 2014 R false) but nowhere near as smooth as a mk1.

0:57 (or 3:09) is a good example. If you ignore the deep howl, the remaining sound is like a hammer drill. Sounds much nicer on yours as it has the deep burble behind it all. I just want to eliminate most of the resonance (not all) and add in a small amount of deep howl without going too loud. It's very hard to explain, but the Mk1 has that lovely deep warble (like your mk2 has in your other video at idle), but higher up the revs the resonance on a mk1 is less 'in your head' or less noticeable. The mk2 is almost gnarly (too much for me); a high pitch gargle. I could go on failing to describe this.
@Blaylock19887 жыл бұрын
Audi really made their exhaust sound like it was choking the VR6. In addition to the resonator swap, I also deleted the pre-resonator that is on the drivers side downpipe just after the cat. I think that helped open up the exhaust and remove the choked sound along with the magnaflow resonator. That might be the last thing you are missing. Otherwise it could be possible your cats broke and have a chunk rattling inside but that should be pretty obvious. Just knock on the cats with a wrench to see if they are bad.
@Scoupe4007 жыл бұрын
Blaylock1988 - hi. Slightly went off piste after chatting to someone and decided for a total delete of resonator box (before suitcase). And did NOT remove the small pre resonator by the cat. Well , conclusion, massive wrong step. It's louder, and deep at low revs (good), but the resonating rattle is still there and louder - darn. Loud - as in it sounds like a badly done ricer car. So I'm guessing the pre resonator by the cat is the real suspect ...... ideas?
