It took me many years to get my husband to even try plant based nutrition, which I’ve been doing on my own. After begging and pleading didn’t work, the approach that got him to try it was to tell him that I suffer when he suffers and I’ve suffered enough. Over the 54 years of our marriage he has developed many serious ailments for which he has taken a ton of prescriptions and has gone through one surgery after another, all because of eating dead animals. Long story short, he’s fully vegan now, preaches plant nutrition to anyone who will listen, has lost a lot of weight and yesterday his doctor took him off two more prescriptions that are no long needed. I have hope that I may finally get back the man that I married so long ago. Fingers crossed!

I feel if more people were to actually see how animals are slaughtered and the process to get there I feel it would change a lot of people to reevaluate their eating habits. In today's society since we have so many options it is only a taste bud thing for meat eaters not a necessity. I can get all my protein from plant-based food. I haven't eaten meat in over 30 years and I'm healthier than most people my age and look 10 years younger. It can be done if you focus on what is important which is allowing the animals to live and not be slaughtered.

Two counterpoints: one is that food animals treated humanely during their lives are still viewed as a commodity and subject to a violent end. Additionally, farmers might say they are treating their animals humanely when, in fact, they are not. Secondly, small scale farming and "humane" practices are inefficient and unable to be scaled up to feed the world's population.

@@ayearofmoons Small scale farming is relative to the term large scale farming. Regenerative, step 5, fully organic farming is sufficient enough to feed large scale populations. Although that’s not even a concern because the world will never ever solely consume meat. My only argument is that it would be the death of humanity if we stopped eating meat all together, which will never happen barring a mass extinction event. The type of farms I’m talking about don’t view their livestock as a commodity or else they wouldn’t farm in that manner seeing as it’s much more expensive and produces less than an industrialized farm optimized for mass production. Either way though, humans are carnivores and as such, we view all our prey ultimately as a commodity. It’s a necessary and inescapable evil. You can call it evil or immoral but slaughtering an animal for food and sustenance is a requirement for human survival.

@B.cayius Do you shit in a litter tray? This may come as a shock to you but there are a few things that you’re supposed to be able to do that a domestic cat isn’t capable of. Maybe I’ve overestimated your abilities but someone of your age should be potty trained and you should know how to feed yourself without violently exploiting the bodies of other sentient beings. This is a pretty low bar to expect you to reach.
