Greetings from the USA. Your youtube vinyl presentations are superb! They're always entertaining, informative, and edifying. I learn something new from all of your videos, in addition to hugely enjoying them. Your tastes and views on Jazz are outstanding. Thanks - and keep up the great work.

I enjoyed your upbeat presentation. The Dial label recordings are Charlie Parker's best studio recordings, in my opinion. They were early in his career. They include some great ballads, which are unusual in his catalog. Great at all tempos.

Great selection of good ol jazz records! I started collecting original jazz records about 2 years ago and have built a decent collection. It's videos like yours that help me recognize the covers while crate digging, and I always seem to like what you recommend. Thank you for your videos!

Hi Rob, thanks for watching! I am still collecting some of the big classics and sometimes it's hard to find them here in Germany. It's just so enjoyable to listen to them. Jazz is always fantastic. Have a good sunday my friend :) Armien

Hi Armien, You are so correct about the jazz pressing.....I just bought a Miles Blue Note.....and when I listen, I swear he is in the room with me....I literally look at the speaker. Thanks for the sharing of these, as I like to hear about these albums.....they all are so sweet! I understand the Thelonious Monk Quartet show at Carnegie was $2.....lol. Steve
@AudiophileLaws9 жыл бұрын
***** Hello Steve, I can imagine that! Specially with Jazz you only have a few instruments and if the pressing and recording is good you can really feel the musicians. By the way: I was asking myself if there are still concerts at the Carnegie Hall? Thanks for watching - have a good week :) Armien
@FlipSideCT9 жыл бұрын
Ongoing.....still very elite....but mostly Orchestras, vocalists, pianists, ........don't see much jazz. But Joe Bonamassa is playing there.

Armien, Thanks for the update. A really nice selection and some good pointers for anyone dipping into jazz. some of the labels you mention are making a huge effort to produce these albums as they should be heard but I would add, beware of the lesser ones where there is no indication where the source files come from. Original master tape rules!
@AudiophileLaws9 жыл бұрын
Hello Richard, I couldn't agree more! There are so many bad labels at the moment. Specially if you live in Europe some labels use a trick with "old copyright". Dol, Studio Media, Jazzwax, Doxy are a few that everyone should avoid. Thanks for watching :) Armien

Hi Armien, AudiophileLaws As usual dope selection of Jazz records. Im from Europe, but living in Japan and I bought like 150 Jazz records here, most original Japanese pressings. The Art Blakey - A Night At Birdland is not from 1956. Japanese pressing of Blue Note started during the early 70s and late 70s. Its still OG JP Press, but more from around 1976. I got both Vol 1 & 2 also. There was an article on the original of the Japanese Blue Note / Victor Pressings which explains all the dates. Often times the Japanese would use OG US version and simply put a Japanese sticker on it, so it could be OG version you have, but more likely early 70s. Thought I would share. Btw if you want some good Japanese websites that sell Jazz records for under 2000 Yen price let me know. Peace, Ted

Hi Armien, amazing jazz pickups! That "Study in Brown" is high on my wishlist, as i right now only have an EP from that album! I really like the bopworks of Clifford Brown! That Bud Powell album looked awesome also! I have never seen that Roost label. It got me thinking of Royal Roost but the label seems to have taken the name from that club. I'm looking forward to more hazz updates. :) Take care!

All great stuff Armien, I want to grab a Music Matters pressing just to check out the quality but havent decided which one yet. I actually just received 6 Polish jazz LP's from my fathers collection, so really enjoying going through those, lots of excellent stuff. I always really enjoy your jazz updates, always great pressings and a nice variety. I have a Clifford Brown with Max Roach and Sonny Rollins LP coming up in my next video. Hope you're doing well man!

I would say that all MM Blue Note titles are great but I exactly know what you mean. Cool to hear about the Polish Jazz records from your fathers collection. I know that Antoine likes them a lot. I once saw a few at my local store but they were pretty expensive. Thanks for the kind words - have a good Sunday :) Armien

Hi Armien, what are your thoughts on cheap re-press of Verve's ? Example I found out that Stan Getz / João Gilberto - Getz / Gilberto (Verve) 2014 repress is less than ~20 Euros available to buy at any record store(made in CZ i think). Speaker Corner's issue from 1999 is ~38 Euros. Do you think are they any good?
@BarakaPDub9 жыл бұрын
Never seen that Bud Powell album before and Japanese Pressings are the way to go for a lot of the obscure label stuff. Sonny Side Up is a great album, I found it to be highly enjoyable and that's a bargain for 14 euro. Cool that you picked up the Horace Parlan set on Music Matters. I am curious, what do the Speaker's Corner issues run price-wise in Europe? I would hope they would be reasonable being they are a German label. Thanks for the video Armien.
@AudiophileLaws9 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, I am glad that you liked it! The speakers corner pressings are fantastic. Like I said I don't understand why they aren't that famous. All records are cut from the original master tapes and pressed at Pallas germany. The normal retail price always is and was around 25 euro. Often those albums are exact replicas. I mean they don't have any hint that it is a speakers corner pressing besides the hype sticker. Thanks for watching :) Armien

***** Hahaha Paul... by chance, I also have that same Bud Powell album Roost!... what a coincidence... my collection is small compared to you guys... so I get pretty excited when I see the same of what I have within your collections!!!.. Hahaha.. sorry for rambling. Great to see you here Paul! Best Regards, Ian.

I have a couple of Jazz CD's. I noticed that on some tracks there is quite a bit of hiss on the intros. Is this normal? Is this because they are old recordings?

The artwork on jazz lp cover are great......(impulse, blue note, verve, CTI .....) do you like free jazz?,,,(pharaoh sanders)
@AudiophileLaws9 жыл бұрын
orcathek kone Oh yes - I always had my problems with Free Jazz but about a year ago it just made "click". Pharoah Sanders - Jewels Of Thought on Impulse was the first Free Jazz album I bought. Now try to find more Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler, Pharoah and I also like the titles on the french Actuel label.

Do you have any Digital Recordings at all? I am just wondering if you have a SACD /DVD Audio Player. They are both so much better than a regular Redbook CD. If you do have a Player please let me know so I can send a couple extra disc's I have.Your insight into the minds of most Jazz players is very informative.Thank you so much for the video's you do.I really like to know what pressings are the best as Sound is everything.I look forward to the next video. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon.Peace My Friend!

Thanks for the kind words! I am glad that you find the videos informative. Too be honest I don't have any CD player anymore :) Call me "hardcore analog". I still have all the CDs from my youth in the bedroom but I only listen to them in the car. I don't have any SACD, Blu Ray or DVD audio. I once thought about steaming but yeah what should I say.... I am an analog guy in a digital world :) Thanks for watching - have a good week! Armien
