Ironicly cops can't use someone being nervous as a reason to prolong a detain and such anymore. Cause of course you are nervous, police with guns are near you.... Courts recongise that being detained for a traffic stop is stressful and some people will have nervous ticks cause of it. After all.. some people with autism or those with actual ticks they can't control would be always seen as supicious and will never be able to just drive away from a stop until a dog sniffing happens and they consent to a search or such.... Yeah, that makes me sick. I get a nervous and sick feeling whenever I just pass a cop when I have done absolutely nothing wrong. We probably feel that way because we are aware that an officer can and will violate our rights given any chance they get. Nervousness around those who could and would injure us just because they feel like it, is perfectly reasonable and should not be allowed to be used as a sign of guilt for anyone.

I've probably been pulled over 30-40 times in my life. Never has an officer asked me to step out of the car and search me. Well, one time, when I was arrested for DUI. Short of that, never again. This man had a wife and child and was obviously clean cut and probably coming from church like he stated. This is pretty shameful and gross

Dang bro you have terrible luck with getting pulled over. I've been pulled over 5 times while driving and once while riding a horse. Of the times when I was driving, I've been told to get out of the car twice and one of those times I was arrested for "concealed weapons" after the cop illegally searched my car and found a BB gun and a foldable fishing staff he claimed was an extendable baton. I was found not guilty since there was no valid reason to pull me over to begin with. The cop's reasoning for pulling me over was because I got fast food late at night and he thought it was "suspicious."

Disagree. He actually gave them evidence that would have backed up their case at trial. It's actually an example of why you never try to explain anything to police and unknowingly assist their investigation (which is all evidence that can be used against you). The check was so small the city probably took 2 seconds to approve because it's nothing. Had it gone to trial you can bet the city would have claimed he may have signaled but the light didn't work so it's as if he didn't signal. He provided evidence backing that up numerous times when he freely told them that sometimes it malfunctions and he has to do some special maneuver to get it to work. He freely gave them evidence against him. Don't confuse the city not caring to fight something that would have cost more in lawyer fees instead of cutting a small check, not admitting guilt and silencing the family w/ him handling it correctly.

Being a cop is like any other job: there are the good ones and the bad ones. And unfortunately, we hear a lot more about the bad ones than the good ones and the great things they do. So I’d hold back on the whole “I don’t respect them.” Yes, there are bad cops who get off on having authority, but there are more average and good ones. And cops, like our soldiers, have serious issues with stress and trauma with the stuff they’ve seen. Sometimes people get annoyed when cops are so matter of fact or rude bc they don’t consider that just before that officer came to respond to your noise complaint about your neighbor playing music too loud, they just came from being the first on scene to a beaten and dead infant (a real account I heard). So yeah they are gonna be a little moody. I’m not excusing bad or rude behavior. I’m just saying that police are people. That’s it. Of course in this video, there is absolute no excuse. This is just plain wrong and example of being a bad cop. But then again, this type of stuff gets more views than the heart warming stories.

If there’s berry little to no chance of getting $$ even if you get a $$ judgment, people won’t bring suits. I do agree the responsibility should be put more on the individuals. For example a police who commits perjury or abuses their power should presumptively be in legal trouble, in most every case. These, to me, are similar to white collars crimes. If they’d enforce the law against them, I suspect we’d suddenly see some deterrence.

I've heard it suggested that cops should be required to have personal insurance policies for things like this. I'm not too sure exactly what was meant by that, but here's my idea of how that could be used to start making an actual difference. When they mess up and have to pay out, insurance pays the victim and the cop pays more for insurance. Let's call it $250/month. First offense, it doubles to $500/m, second offense $1000/m. I bet they would be very careful how they conducted themselves if it meant having to pay $12,000 a year for the next ten years. (I don't know if these numbers even make sense, but it's just a hypothetical. Maybe they get dropped from the policy after three and it becomes their own responsibility after that?) This insurance policy would stay with the individual (sort of like life insurance. Doesn't matter where in the world you are), so no amount of transferring out to a different jurisdiction will wipe the slate clean. It would be an absolute win for all involved. Insurance companies would make millions, cities and states would save their taxpayers money, police misconduct would measurably drop in frequency, cops would be more likely to be seen as trustworthy by individuals who are legitimately concerned about misconduct, making a safer job for cops when the community sees less and less misconduct. I know it would be a huge undertaking to make so many changes, but when so many people are demanding change without providing any ideas or proposals on accomplishing anything, I guess just about anything is worth considering at this point.

Now more than ever we need the electoral college and its exactly for the reason you said...so we can just pick who we want....if that were the case than we would have 4 or five cities or states making all the choices. that is why we are a constitutional republic and not a democracy. If you want better choices than get more involved at the local level. noting that happens at the federal level just happens its all starts at the local level. these people come from somewhere and its usually some small city elected spot, then they just move through the system. The Supreme court does not make any laws they simply decide if the laws passed are inline with the constitution or if they go against the intent of the founding fathers. Since I live here it does affect me. and I ned to make something clear...abortion was never a constitutionally protected right. its a choice. All over turning Roe v Wade did was take it out of the hands of the federal gov. and gave it back to the states where they are now free to do what the people in each state decide is best for them. No state have changed any of the laws they had last week last month or last year. You should be happy it is now back to the states...now you do not have to deal with 350 million people now you just have to get involved and manage the people in your state. and the great thing about this country is if you do not like the laws in one state you can move to one that better aligns with your values. I do appreciate what our founding fathers gave us, because we are like no other country in the world ever. I have traveled to other countries and I have seen how the rest of the world deals with their citizens...You could not pay me to live anywhere else. Most simple traffic violations are not pursued, if additional charges develop during the stop. We've all seen several videos of Officers claiming a turn signal was used, but not 150 feet prior to a turn or lane change. These are petty violations, but when the stop fails to yield additional charges, these petty violations are an Officers only means to evade an unlawful stop complaint.
