That's kind of the understated theme of planetside from the perspective of the soldiers; you are trapped in a never ending cycle of war and conflict, and death is never a respite because you are brought back always and thrust right back into it. Actually, thinking on it, it sounds more like a realm of Khorne's in the warp...

I reckon the reason NC have the most teamkilling is because while the DPS might be roughly the same across factions, NC tend to have 200/167 damage model weapons, so it takes less shots before you accidentally kill someone (IE less time to react on that trigger before an idiot who ran in front of the doorway drops dead)

The Vanu's current whereabouts are unknown. Sovereignty scientists theorize the Vanu may have reached a new form of existence with the other lifeforms of the planet, accounting for their absence.

The Vanu have likely ascended into some state of energy based life form; with some or all of them possibly merging with Auraxis itself. This was all but confirmed in the original lore during "the Bending" event of the original game that revealed all of the underground caverns and alien structures. During the bending; a mysterious voice started speaking telepathically to everyone in the midst of huge earthquakes and meteor showers. It was probably the Vanuatu who are essentially some sort of planetary hive mind now. It all has a very Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within Vibe

For anyone interested PlanetSide 2 is completely unrivaled in scale by anything currently in the multiplayer first-person shooter genre. You can literally have battles in a single base map, or hexagon as it's called, of hundreds of people including entire platoons of air armor and infantry. It holds multiple world records for largest amount of players in an FPS on screen at any one time. For those of you who like good old games and hidden gems this is one of them, this is an 8-year-old game and it's still unrivaled in scope and scale for an fps. Unfortunately for about 5 years it's been stuck in development hell, and has been unable to gain traction. In it's early days the game had difficulty because relatively few people had a rig and/or internet connection that could allow them to play competitively, and it was not available on console. However the cost of hardware that can run the game with no problems has gone down substantially. At first it's going to be like an abusive relationship but if you stick with it and you actually figure out the game and you start learning the maps and you learn from your mistakes instead of doing the same thing over and over or even observe what other people are doing, You will have a hard time going back to other first-person shooters. For me the only online FPS games that even held my interest were like Doom 2016 because planetside can be so intense and so quick. If you have any questions for a long time salty veteran player feel free to ask and if KZbin gives me the notification I'll get back to you.

As to expand what has been said: Death is a thing of the past on Auraxis. Extremely advanced structures, known as warpgates are incredibly powerful machines capable of reviving any casualty taken in the war. Medics are able to do as well, but in a smaller area. Each soldier carries shields, capable of surviving bullets, railguns and even plasma. The technology levels vary greatly. The Terran Republic is the professional army. The best trained and second best equipment. They fire normal bullets with high rate of fire and large magazines. The New Conglomerate are rebels, controlled by corporate leaders who are led to believe they fight for freedom. They fire railguns, high damage but extremely inaccurate and slow ROF also shotguns. The Vanu Sovreignty is unique. They are at a whole new technological level. They found the remnants of an alien race. They also contain most of the researchers on Auraxis, the only reason they stay in the fight is for these artifacts. They fire plasma based weaponry, highly accurate and as effective as bullets. Above the atmosphere, the powerful Bastion Fleet Carriers, huge ships capable of turning the tide of entire continents, but are extremely difficult to obtain. These, still, are nowhere as powerful as the Warpgates. As previously mentioned, these objects allow humans to cheat death. They are protected by incredible shields, untouchable by anything humanity may ever create... Until one of them shattered. Years of orbital strikes, destruction and conflict broke the continent of Esamir and the Warpgate failed...before exploding. It broke the nearby space. Destroyed a fourth of the continent, breaking any technology may have been in the area. In it's epicentre, a grim, but beautiful in it's destruction. A green light emanating from the structure. Floating debree, seemingly blocked in time. A force coming from what was once the mightiest of humankind's technology...capable of piercing through the shields and slowly killing anyone who entered it's grasp, but this has not stopped humans from entering it, quite the opposite. However, one thing worries the scientists of all factions, be it Nanite Systems, be it the TR, the NC or even the Vanu themselves. A roar shakes the ground on Esamir, something has been awakened. within Auraxis' surface. Perhaps a beast of untold power. Perhaps, only the wind. Perhaps, the Original Vanu. Perhaps, something unimaginable. If humanity is lucky, they will be able to destroy it, or perhaps survive along with it. But if it is not...Auraxis may become the death of humanity.
