Her first really big and important appearance in front of a million audience on TV. Pure fear accompanied her. In the interview afterwards, she said she almost peed into her pants. And later she was shocked when she saw herself on TV, because of her movements. Her body did what it wanted with her that evening. She had not much control over it. But she was truly just great with everything she brought to the stage. The video here of this performance doesn't have many views, but the official music video has 400 million. So yes, the song was successful and still is. And that's probably an understatement.

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind You have just the right video, because aurora is always best live. Official music videos are not real. Only live you see what everyone can really do. You can laugh but performing barefoot has several reasons. Firstly, a bond to nature, Secondly, Aurora just feels freer, thirdly with people like Aurora who feel everything and are emphatic, this actually supports the vocal technique. And the last point is that it helps her to stay down to earth. Furthermore, she writes all her songs herself and also for other artists. She also produces and composes everything herself. She is involved in everything and has the last word on everything. She has been composing since she was 6 and at the age of 9 the lyrics were added. There she also wrote the song "Lucky". About depression and how to deal with it. Inconceivable. You should take a look. Lucky live at Niderosdomen kzbin.info/www/bejne/d563mqSIZ8SJd9k Norway has so many good singers because they just can't do much else in their free time. Often rainy and cold weather. Very long dark winters. And music helps against depression.

@@norse-nilsbjasa I'm not talking about anxiety, I'm talking about depression. It is a fact that winter and long nights can make you depressed. And just the further north it goes, the longer the winters and nights become. This has nothing to do with scareing people at all. I've also often heard from Aurora and other people from there that there's not much to do, because it also rains often . And what you've cited as a counterexample, you don't do regularly every day, do you? Maybe people who live in the big cities, but not those in the countryside. And they make a lot of music.

@@TomTomson81 Guess I chose the wrong verb... deter, stop, hinder might have been better. As anorwegian I would like to give my answer to your question about why so many talented singers (mostly female) comes out of Norway. I have poundered that question myself lately, and here is the explanations I came up with: 1. Every city/town/county have someting called "Kulturskole" translated to "Culture school". Here kids can get profesional lessons in diferent kinds of art for an afordable price, as much of the cost is covered by the comunity taxes. That way talented kids can groom their skills independent of their parents wallet. (Aurora had lessons in dance, Angelina Jordan had lessons in singing. I have a son that learned to play the piano like a pro, and my daughter takes a class on painting.) 2. The reason the majority of the singers is female I think is due to Norway being an equal society, where women is free to pursue a career without anny sosial stigma. 3. And I think most importantly, In Norway we have a good sosial security net that allows people to pursue their dreems without risking everything. I heard (maybe on this chanel) that Sigrid's parent adviced her to try for the music career, as this was the time to do it. They could do this because they knew that if it didn't work out, she would not starve, and could always get an higher education or a decent paying unskilled job later. I have the feeling its not like that all over the world.

You’re right, but that doesn’t concern Aurora except for her having dancing lessons. I think it also has to do with the fact that in wintertime we spend a lot of time indoors much because of the darkness 😊

Thanks for all of that. You would definitely know better than me so I value your thoughts. Thanks so much!

@Peter G I’m Norwegian and I disagree 😉 Take Aurora, she didn’t even want to be an artist. If she did this for money, she would be happy if some manager wanted her. And when it comes to sporr, we aren’t that good. Only when it comes to wintersports, but most kids in Norway get skis very early like when they are 3 - 4 years old. Take summer olympics, we aren’t in the top when it comes to medals. Chess, we’ve had one person in history that is good, and that’s Magnus Carlsen. When he quit I don’t think another person will take his place. And we suck in football 😅 And in Norway we are very much inside because of wintertime. And in the wintertime on the west coast especially, it rains a lot. And many great Norwegian artists are from the west. As I wrote, we are spending a lot of time indoors, and then you get a lot of time to for example sing. But those who loves skiing are members of sportsclubs or something like that .

But for now we are best in some summer sports 😍and believe me, I really appreciate them😍 But we usually don’t take a lot of medals in summer olympics, but in winter olympics we often are on the top of the list. And that’s pretty amazing when you think of how few Norwegians there are😍👏 And we have a lot of great artists in this country.

Regarding her movement while singing, she was not aware of what she was doing at first: youtu . be / BNIUD9f4Szk&t=5m22s "I know I use my hands a lot. I didn't know in the beginning that I did, and when I watched a video of myself for the first time, by mistake and I will never do that again I swear to myself, I was very terrified. I look like I'm possessed" "It feels nice, I think it is necessary. It's kind of like being asleep having a very strange dream, and you do things without even knowing it, and it would look very strange from the outside." "I have so many emotions and opinions and words inside this tiny body, and I think every time I get the chance to get them out, and there is only like...and they all have to come out this tiny mouth, and I guess I just have to use every tool I have to help like the emotions come out alive my body I guess."

Aurora had a loving upbringing, but she was so unique among her friends and sisters. She explored the forest behind her home for hours and so has a deep connection to nature. She’s also a contemporary dancer so she’s very expressive when she sings. She was initially not interested in singing for others, but her mother said to her that her music was like medicine and she should share it with the world. You’re right about this song. She loves her country and home. They are her anchor and grounding. This song reflects that she was feeling that way throughout her childhood. It and the forest was her safe places. It’s where she goes to rejuvenate. Hi Bob, there are many singers who sing with their whole body. But Aurora always looks different than the others. I also feel like only AURORA's body is on stage. Her mind is somewhere else. I also suspect that her movements come from seeing something in her mind's eye, being in a situation, to which she reacts with these movements. That's why she sometimes needs a few seconds to get back to reality. If that's not real but acting, she deserves an Oscar. But I think it's real. She also sometimes shakes her body uncontrollably - e.g. in It Happened Quiet, which you saw. But AURORA isn't always that deep in the songs. These are possibly only those where the story behind them touches her personally or even affects her themselve. Today I only recommend one song from AURORA. Your list is already long enough. If you're watching "Running with the Wolves," grab the music video. I think it is very successful and supports the text strongly. I usually prefer live performances - but sometimes ... . Runaway and Running with the Wolves are both from 2015. - Running With The Wolves - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmfLpWyDrq9_ipY I just found two important information from another commenter: 1. -- In a recent interview she said "well, the last song I wrote is meant for my 7th album.” - AURORA's latest album, the fourth, was released on January 21, 2022. She's already in the planning for the 7th. 2. -- AURORA was a teen when she answered the question "are some of your songs related (on different albums)?" - it will all make sense when I have finished. -- AURORA has a plan and we don't know the destination yet. But it is important to know that everything belongs together. I wish you and your family a happy Easter 🐇🐇 and Greetings from Germany

Right on the money with your comments again Bob. Here is an example for you that further illustrates how invested Aurora is in her music and how spontaneous and natural her performance style is. This is a performance of "Warrior" that comes from the middle of the HAIK documentary. It is for an audience of three (Christine Dancke, the presenter of the HAIK show and two young ladies who won a contest to see Aurora's concert that comes at the end of the documentary. This intimate performance was an extra surprise for them. One of the girls had never been to a concert of any kind before and she got to see Aurora twice in one day.) and supported by three musicians that Aurora had met only an hour or so before for a brief rehearsal. I hope you can find the time to watch and enjoy it (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnaUkJ9jp5eUfZY).

Great reaction, Bob. Yes, Aurora was 11 when she wrote this song. At least the lyrics. The same goes for her song "Lucky" which she wrote at age NINE. It is IMO one of the best songs she has ever written. She performed the song at Nidarosdomen, where she also performed the cover of David Bowie's "Life On Mars" which you have already reacted to. At that concert she also performed MY personal favorite by her, namely her song "Through The Eyes Of A Child." I guess you have a BUNCH of requests for these two already, as they rank very high on every fan's list, but I'll give you the link to both anyhoot : "Through The Eyes Of A Child", live at Nidarosdomen : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJSqaq2Kr9icqac "Lucky", live at Nidarosdomen : kzbin.info/www/bejne/d563mqSIZ8SJd9k I know it's not talked about very much, but you can sense it when you listen to her. Aurora is highly intelligent. She spoke about it briefly in her "Haik" documentary :-) Nidarosdomen is Norway's oldest and most beautiful cathedral, and dates back to the 11th century, right after the viking era. Many, many coronations, royal burials and weddings have taken place here through the centuries. One of Norway's most well known kings, "Olav den hellige" (Freely translated to Olav, the holy) was buried here in 1090 and was kept there until the 15th century. Many historinas believe that he was permanently buried here, and that he still rests under the floor of the cathedral somewhere. Olav den hellige was the king that manifested the Christianing of Norway, after the heden viking reign. Maybe someone has told you this before, but if not; you're welcome :-)) It doesn't change the songs tho. LOL While speaking of vikings and all that, have anyone requested "Helvegen", the Wardruna song? There is a famous performance of it, where Wardruna featured Aurora. That one is very different (kinda tribal), but very beautiful and well worth a listen. Wardruna uses alot of old instruments, true to history. Here is the link : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ_Ohah-hZ6kadE I'll leave you with that for now :-) Take care and have a Happy Easter my friend :-) Love from Norway :-)

Angelina and Daneliya both go somewhere and have to take a moment to come back to reality again. Angelina's performs bare foot because of a promise she made to another little girl when she was six and traveling in the Middle East. Angelina gave her shoes to a youngster who had scars on her bare feet. She sings bare foot to remind herself of that girl and she also said she will sing that way until all the children of the world have shoes.

Aurora a very good songwriter and a charming vocalist and a great show. She gets involved with her music and she like to include those who have come to see her. I also wouldn't move to shut her off if she came on the radio. There are more than a few that I would skip or change the channel if they came on, but Aurora isn't one of them. What I do have is a singer who has taken this song and put her style on it that I find more appealing. Her name is Daneliya Tuleshova she is a 15 year old from Kazakhstan. She was born the same year as Angelina Jordan but six months later. Angelina was born Jan. 10, 2006, Daneliya was born July 18, 2006. That isn't the only similarity. They both have voices that belong on a singer in their 30's. Daneliya can sing many different styles but she prefers Pop and HipHop and Rap. She has covered this song and it actually came out on Aurora's birthday. One thing I must say is Daneliya doesn't sing a song unless she really likes the song and who wrote it. She will also not sing another song by a songwriter if she feels the songwriter has gone in a wrong direction. Anyway, here is the link. Daneliya's cover has also had a few views herself. She has had over 3.8 million views herself. Enjoy, react or not but pleas listen to it. You won't be wasting your time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/moPWeH2Cf9h8sNE Daneliya Tuleshova at 15 cover of Aurora's 'Runaway'.

She's learned to control the energy she gets from a performance so she isn't as twitchy in singing, and I think she's found a way to help the panic attacks, but she definitly puts power and energy into her performance becuase it has to go somewhere. She just channels it differently now.

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind That does remind me though... a documentary I saw about her long ago, when she was just starting out. And one of the managers she had would keep trying to make her to do stuff she didn't want to do. He would not stop getting on her about making what he called "radio songs" and it really did stink of someone trying to change her music for his own profit. In any case, she's in full control of her craft now. That's all that matters. I might add that one reason she is able to write such deep lyrics may come from some heavy life events that she has had to deal with and overcome. Stuff that most people don't have in a lifetime. One of the reasons I finally got to know her music was from similar events that happened in my life. Once I realized where she was coming from, her lyrics really started to capture me. I won't go into it here. But if interested, look up the 2011 Norway terrorist attacks. That's one event she had affect her personally. There are two others but this isn't the place to talk about it. Lets just say there is a good reason why her audience is full of both teens and old war vets alike. And everyone in between. She's a real inspiration on how to move forward in life after dealing with loss. And that makes her one of my favorite people in the world. Not just a great artist.

No doubt AURORA sings in an "altered state." In this video she takes three or four breaths to come back to being aware of there being an audience. In her more recent videos, she steps in and out in a flash. Also as an introvert she initially found performing uncomfortable. Reminds me of myself when my wife first dragged me to see an acupuncturist - rather than being a human pin cushion - I would go somewhere very far away. AURORA speaks in an interview with Cheryl Waters on KEXP of feeling energy flowing through her when she sings and that over time she has learned to turn that energy into more dance like movements. When the father of American Hypnotherapy, Milton Erickson, was asked how he hypnotized people, he said he would go into a trance himself - then his client had a choice of either sitting alone in his office or of joining him. When AURORA goes into her altered state - we have the choice of joining her. Listen to how many music reactors say they went somewhere else, they were mesmerized, they forgot to stop the performance. Thanks for your great reaction.

Odin, the Viking God up in Valhalla, has cornered the market on great female Norwegian singers, sending Aurora to one end of the musical spectrum and then sending Angelina Jordan to the other. Angelina, being barefoot is a special case, for it resulted from her at 6, when she visited the mid-east and met a poor girl in the street who was shoe less and had scarred feet, leading her to give her favorite sneakers, right off her feet, to the girl, and made a vow to never wear footwear when she performed on stage. She wants to remind people, every chance she gets, that there are many shoe less children in the world.

Great reaction again 🤩 I think you’re right about the meaning of the song. When Aurora wrote this at the age of 11 she didn’t quite understand the meaning of the song, but as she grew older she knew that “home” meant home to her parents, a safe place to fall❤️ This is one of few songs that actually is about her😊 In the first years she was more insecure on stage, and she was very into her songs, so it looked like she had to wake up or shake her head after a song. After all, she didn’t want to be an artist, fortunately for us she changed her mind 😍 She still shakes her head in between. I think she’s the most captivating artists in the world 😍 Btw, Runaway official video has almost 400 million views 👍 In wintertime it gets dark very early, so many people stay inside. Then you have a lot of spare time. Aurora is self taught when it comes to singing and playing piano, so that has nothing to do with schools and things like that. Her family didn’t know about her talent until she was 13 - 14 so…😳😳 She’s just a very talented girl/woman ❤️ It can be cold in the wintertime, depends on where you live. On the west coast it’s often mild winters with little snow. I live high up in the mountains, so it can be down to about -30 degrees. But in the summertime it can be as hot as up to 30 degrees. The coldest place in Norway is a place up north called Kautokeino, the lowest temperature matured there is -51,4 degrees 🥶🥶 But it can be hot up north as well, but not as hot as 30 degrees. Where my parents live, near Oslo, it’s often around 28 - 34 degrees in the summer.😊 Could you please react to Auroras cover of Leonard Cohens “Famous blue raincoat” live at a tribute concert in Oslo 2017 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZLJYZqwhricha8 “Murder Song (5,4,3,2,1)” live at the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJmThIqKi9yLrtk
