Very few people who attended mainstream school in the 1970s and 80s were diagnosed with autism. Autism wasn't yet seen as a spectrum, the triad of impairments was not described, and Asperger syndrome had yet to be used as a diagnosis.
Autistic girls were there all along, but frequently mislabelled or misdiagnosed.
No matter how hard I masked or camouflaged my autism, it was still there!
Here's a light hearted, yet no holds barred look back at my school years, with a message of hope for the future.
