This is how you know if Autism and Loneliness has got you! Here are some easy ways to know if you are lonely and what to do about it!
Loneliness is something that impact so many people especially those people on the autism spectrum. High functioning autism loneliness is a real thing and can impact the life of an autistic person in so many ways.
I have personally felt autism self isolation turn into autism loneliness because of the fact that being autistic you find yourself pulling back from the world because of the sensory input that becomes overloading I’ll certain points in your life.
Being lonely is not to be ashamed just like being autistic is not to be ashamed and autism is something that impact the lives of one in 100 people here in United Kingdom, and will create autism and loneliness.
But there are ways that you can help yourself by reaching out to friends and family members if you feel like you are lonely but if you’re also not aware that you are lonely you can watch this video and understand when to know if you’re lonely.
I believe that long and this is one of the biggest mental health challenges facing society today because we have become more isolated thanks to social media and other devices and apps for friend making and socialising.
Always try to reach out to somebody if you’re feeling down because of loneliness or you’re feeling depressed because of loneliness don’t suffer in silence.

The problem with having autism is that you're an intelligent, kind, honest, reasonable, empathetic, understanding and compassionate person in a world full of exactly the opposite. And they treat us like we're "broken".

Loneliness is a complex and usually unpleasant emotional response to isolation. Loneliness typically includes anxious feelings about a lack of connection or communication with other beings, both in the present and extending into the future. As such, loneliness can be felt even when surrounded by other people and one who feels lonely, is lonely. The causes of loneliness are varied and include social, mental, emotional, and physical factors

Loneliness is just a phenomenon, a hopeless void that lies within the soul. Loneliness is more than just anxiety, fear, and a feeling of unhappiness just from a lack of "meaningful" connection to human beings. Loneliness is like an infinite never ending feeling that even PEOPLE really can't fix or help you escape from the fact that it's such a never ending feeling that goes on forever and ever. In a world where as you get older, no one cares about how you really feel, no one really cares about how suffering it feels to "keep it moving", in a world where you just have to "be a man", you can't help but feel this feeling no matter where you go or who you interact with. It's just a phenomenon people with or without autism could really suffer and endure from to be honest. Autistic people get excluded for being "differen", for not fitting into people's standards, get made to feel indifferent or called out for it... but said people can go on doing the same while ALSO knowing they have lots of issues that'd warrant them to honestly feel the same... but nope, because these said people are just so emotionally unstable you're forced to deal with their own matters at hand because you may "HAVE" to interact with them.

Loneliness is a problem that I've had all my life. No matter what I tried, it didn't make it better or change it. I never had friends. Even when I was in my (church) groups, I was lonely. Getting in touch with others is a horror for me. Conversations usually only come about when I am addressed. I like my time for myself, but I also want to go out with people. And when I go among people, mostly only as an observer.

I prefer gaming for loads of reasons. Mainly, It's interactive and I can have social interactions without all of the pressure that comes with face to face social interactions. Additionally, when I do well I can immediately see it and so can everyone else, which helps my low self esteem There is a set of rules in video games that pretty much everyone has to follow and they tell you these rules in advance. In 'real' life, the rules aren't always clear, and even if I follow the no one else does. So it's rewarding on many levels and helps me feel less lonely

Yep. The video game world gets shunned apon because it's "not real", it's not "helping you grow in the real world". Here we are in the "real world" where there's just discrimination, exclusion for being different, everyone being insensitive from *THEIR* own problems, and just everyone being SO unfair and unjust. In a world where you're just discriminated for being different, in a world where it feels like there's just hardly *ANY* JOY for being who you really are because it doesn't live up to lots of code of conducts and standards... why feel like you should endure the harsh and unfair reality of things.

I prefer gaming, especially Pokemon and Luigi’s mansion. I have been lonely for a very long time. I moved 4 hours away from my support network when my husband got offered a job in his home town. I haven’t been able to make any friends in the 5 and a half years since living here despite my many attempts. The only people I now have any contact with is professionals. I have done a silver jewellery making evening course and the anxiety of talking to anyone was just too overwhelming I just sat in the corner with my headphones on.

I definitely can relate to only being around colleagues (and customers as i work in retail). My sister moved away and so did my parents; my sister is only a couple of hours away but because of work i cant visit her that often. i would look for jobs nearer her and move but shes looking to move away from there anyway. Plus, uprooting is daunting to the point that id rather stay in an area that now has negative connotations. i know i need to join groups to socialise but even the thought terrifies me and i know how it will go - i'll either plan to go but avoid the very first session and not even try after that, or just go and not talk and not turn up again...

I don‘t mind being alone, I self isolate a lot, but from people I accually sorround myself with I long for a deep connection with them, which most people lack and it makes me feel like noone really knows me (on the other hand I am afraid of being vunerable and keep people at arms lenght because I fear being judged) and if I open up which is needed for a deep connection, I feel immensely judged. I feel ashamed and like I am not accepted, reinforces me not opening up. I am torn between the two. Btw am INFJ personality.

This is resonating way too hard with me right now. I'm pretty much laughing at myself for this. It's rather conflicting how one can get so use to being lonely. Small team at my workplace, I get to assemble stuff and it is quite satisfying, love the job, I get these jolts of joy from it that it gives me the energy to speak up, yet I don't have anyone to talk to. I've moved frequently in my life, use to that difficulty of making friends and losing touch with them, even losing some from me being me and them just getting fed up with me because they were too polite to tell me that they had a problem with me. I get my mini sad waves, I let them pass. I hate talking on the phone. Chat rooms are random and don't quite fill that satisfaction to ease loneliness and there are few times when I get to my social meet ups with my common interest group when I actually do get the chance to talk. Too much to say and I can't say a thing.

It depends on my mood. I don't play games as much as I used to, but I am still passionate about them and will play a ton when I'm in the right mood. But I also like a good television show, having watched Arcane countless times. As for loneliness, I've been quite lonely my whole life. Even though I have plenty of friends and family, I've always known I was different and felt like no one understood me. It was only this last year that I discovered that I was on the spectrum, which made a whole lot of things suddenly make sense... but it certainly didn't cure the loneliness. If anything it may have made it worse in some ways. But thankfully, I've recently made an online friend through D&D who is also on the spectrum, and she makes me feel a little less lonely.

Thanks for doing these videos. I became the stepdad of two autistic boys 8 years ago, and my youngest son was also diagnosed with ASD. I've been struggling with mental health issues that have gotten more severe over time. Lately I've seen some videos on KZbin (including some of yours) and thinking about some traits I share with my boys that have me questioning if I would have been diagnosed with Aspergers if my mom had recognized what was going on with me as a kid. The loneliness is awful. Over the past couple years I've isolated myself from pretty much everyone but my immediate family. Social media wasn't helping, it was making it worse seeing how so many people (including good friends and family who I love) can say such terrible things to other people. Unfriending everyone who was like that seemed like it would cause way more drama in my life than I was already experiencing by staying on facebook, so I made a clean break with it over two years ago and never looked back. But now I just don't really talk to anyone anymore because phone calls are the devil. It's becoming clearer every day that I need to do something to get some help. I know I need help with my mental health issues, and those I have pretty good idea about what is going on there, it's just very hard for me to physically go speak to people about it. What I'm not too sure about is what is the point of getting a diagnosis as an adult if I think I'm on the spectrum?

I slightly prefer watching television/film due to chronic illness and pain but I love playing video games as well! I am homebound and on SSDI after moving away from my support network, so I have very little face to face social contact. My previous social contact was what little I managed at the office job I worked. Now, I play D&D over Skype with a small group of other (also autistic) people, and I have three cats, but I am lonely a lot. My husband works long hours, so I don't see him a LOT, but he's my only real face to face besides doctors. I have a best friend in another state that I Skype with often. I like solitude BUT I have some scary physical symptoms (along with dissociation) that make living alone impossible, and I miss being able to leave the house/have people over. I left all my longtime friends behind when I moved here, have no family, and being homebound really makes making friends hard!

I show others that I dont care back. Everyone thinks I only care about myself, I am extremely difficult to be around, a lot of people just decide they hate me for no reason. Groups like to alienate anyone different even in family. I think that some of us ( I do) have a difficult time internalizing love or acceptance from other people. Its been a real struggle for me to. I'm not diagnosed or sure if I am autistic but I have a lot of these characteristics and do remember having them as a child. The problem I have is that I was abused quite frequently and also suffer from cPTSD in top of possibly being on the spectrum. I feel like I cycle through certain types of entertainment, like activities of playing building, rpg or simulation games and then not touching it for a few months and going to certain TV shows. They have to be specific and when I was younger like 2-3 I would always be/play alone. Even to this day, I just don't understand the whole human social world. I get anxious going out but I live in a city, I love nature but people just hurt me. I feel what a person feels even without being in an interactive state with them so that's why I isolate myself. I have been assaulted, harassed and received negative responses just doing mundane things. I quit my job because they tried to write me up for having a panic attack and leaving a few minutes early during it and wanted to "train" my reaction. Such BS. Been out of work for a year because too much stress sends my body haywire until I'm hospitalized and working long hours does this so work is out. I paint but they don't sell and I'm told they're good but no one touches it on Etsy. I feel lonely because I have isolated myself and the 2 people I do talk to are busy. It just makes me feel guilty about not being productive in the way THEY want but I feel comfortable for me. I wish I could get real help but being without a steady income I can't afford therapy. Your videos are an eye opener for me because I relate to alot of what you say so thank you.

I love being by myself. I've been a loner for a while now (7 years independent/supported living). I also have a cat so there is at least someone at home and I do have voluntary work, paid work and activity classes too so I do get out and see people too. As for the question, used to be a video gamer but not for a while. TV all the way!

Videogames. TV is one of those things where I'd flip through a ton of channels, turn it off because nothing really interests me, then go back to my computer and watch stuff on KZbin (and somehow end up with 20-30 Chrome tabs of unfinished videos) while playing a game.

Hey I've been watching your videos a lot recently since since my psychiatrist thought I have high functioning autism or Asperger's and have related to a lot of things you've talked about, when i was younger I was really interested in Minecraft and chemistry, I'd be constantly building amusement parks, mazes n cities spending weeks on creations and constantly watching Minecraft videos and really like science n turned the shed at the back into a chemistry lab with some chemistry sets I got and things like that (I'm still very interested in chemistry), and always struggled in school because I could never understand or listen to what the teacher was saying cos I was always distracted by getting really focused on a poster on a wall or noticing pattern in the construction of the room, I also have severe social anxiety from my low self esteem n how intense public areas can be n would never go to social events or meet ups cos I found seeing people exhausting and when walking it always walk in patterns with tiles and stuff, there's a lot more but that'd make this too long, I haven't been diagnosed yet, how likely do you think it is I'm on the spectrum

It's nothing wrong about being alone sometimes you can entertain, motivate, learn some new skills and having your own house or apartment independently during my adult life I experience some loneliness or feeling little discouraged when I was a teenager back then I wasn't popular student in school also I got picked on, bullied and yell at by everyone including teachers, kids in class or my parents unfortunately it didn't sit well with me now I'm 43 years old I got high functioning autism I'm focusing on having a better life for myself like getting my own place, having myself a future soulmate so I want to get married between 2025 or 2026, possibly move to new city or new state for a fresh new start.

2:25 - There’s a physiological and psychological difference between interacting socially with a person in different contexts. For instance the difference between sitting next to someone on a sofa versus a retweet. The argument is not that social media is not social, but that it’s a poor replacement for other higher-quality social interactions that actually satisfy the psycho-/physiological need. There’s a reason people are more inclined to get into heated arguments online than in person, whatever their neurological predisposition.

I walk around thinking how did I loose my long term Ex, I am fearful I will never connect with anyone again I am 53, and then I fear if I do what if I still feel lonely with her too

Human are social creature by our very nature and we need contact with other people to feel like we belong and are loved, but this isn't the case with a lot of autistic people who have a way more difficult time making friends that NT people. Personally I have felt alone for most of my life I have a loving a family a one close friend and a few more slight less closer friends which I'm greatful for but I never felt like I belonged or can relate to anyone well not since I was a kid were life was so much more simpler and making friends was easy as a child cool you like the same video game or toys I'm into then lets be friends now it a lot more complicated you might befriend someone but end up saying something that upsets them and they may resent you for it as an example. My lonely is more to not feeling like a belong sure I still hang out once in a while with some friends but they have their own life gf family ect and I'm still hear in my own thoughts. I have a few friends closer facebook which are great but i still miss just hanging out with people in general. In stead of being pessimistic i will be more optimistic I would love to have more aspie friends but it not easy to find people where I live as my country is so small so if one will start up a website were aspie people can come together and develop life long friend ship I guess I will have to myself:)

Is it possible to not realise you have asd because you have been masking all your life? I was diagnosed with Aspergers and adhd 4 years ago but I identified more with the adhd but the more I think about asd symptoms the more situations that I’ve been in make sense. I was just wondering if it’s possible to not realise that something is an issue because you have been altering your behaviour to try and fit in all your life??? I feel like It’s imposter syndrome trying to tell me that I’m not valid but idk
