I actually have not found a state where it was lower, maybe I have not looked enough, but still, it means it is probably one of the lowest. And insurance seems especially high in the states that you mentioned and for all insurances not just for cars. I also checked which states have the highest rate of uninsured drivers. Very interesting too.

One of the ways to save listed is to drop collision or comprehensive coverage. This is dumb advice. The minimum property damage coverage in CA is $5,000, meaning that if someone hits your car, the most that person’s insurance will pay is $5,000, and if there are more vehicles in the crash, that money is shared between all of the non-fault parties. If you have collision coverage, then your insurance company will cover the rest to repair/replace your car. If you don’t have that coverage, then you are really screwed. Comprehensive coverage covers your vehicle from damage not caused by a crash. Most importantly, with rates going up, people will drop or reduce their coverage, which means that you should increase your uninsured/underinsured coverage, which covers you in case the person that hits you has no coverage or minimum coverage. Good luck.

Not only are the prices going up, but the insurance companies are doing everything in their power to not pay out or perform shoddy repairs. They claim that “driving to work” is the same as “driving for work” and will void the claims if you get into an accident during your commute. When it’s time for recommended repairs, they’ll do the bare minimum and often won’t even fix the underlying issues with the vehicle, or using cheap after market parts or subpar paint when negotiating with the body shops. All this on top of the drastically increased rates!

Some insurers offer a "real drive" option based on the miles we drive in a given year. I literally cut my insurance in half because I don't drive more than a few miles a day. It's a pretty great option for those of us who live closer to where we work. We have to submit our odometer reading once a year to keep the discount, but that's not a big deal.

Whenever we have accidents or collisions, the money that they pay is not really coming out from the Insurance Company, it comes from the money that we pay for every month. They increase my rate regardless when it is upon renewal. I told them I have no accidents and tickets for 30 years, why my rate still goes up, my insurance said the rate goes up due to other driver's accidents, collisions, carjacking or thefts. When the Pot is low, they will increase everyone's rate in order to replenish the the Pot. The best way is to take buses or train if you live close by the bus or train station.

It was $300 a month with a clean driving record in Florida. For the same car here in California with full coverage it is now $125 a month. I bought a second car. I believe insurance should really draw the line between those who are constantly filing claims and those who have never filed a single claim. It's not fair for deliberate cautious drivers to pay more for a culture of entitled drivers. Perhaps an incentive would really wake drivers up cause there's too much arrogance on the road in California truth be told.
