Get an umbrella too even if you don't have a big net worth. After 5 months and 3 court appearances finally the suit was not continued and the judge awarded the cost of repairs. Just under 4k and the nationwide attorney after losing said they would appeal. My attorney didn't include fees for his cost. Nationwide didn't appeal and mailed the check to my attorney. Upon going to pick the check up the attorney had made the check where I and he had to endorse the check and of course it was 800 bux light to supposedly to cover his fees. When I went to his office and saw what he'd done I lost it! I was seeing red after all the hassle and now this. Yelling ensued and I had to get in his face and tell his secretary to shut up. She called the police and after some colorful back and forth I left with my check in full.

If I skip comprehensive I will save $1700/yr. The car price was $36000. Full coverage might make sense during the next 3-4 years while the car retains some value. Once it has depreciated it will be a waist of money. It will take 21 years of savings to cover the purchase price but the car value will decline with time. I think people do not think enough about concerting to liability coverage only when their car has lost value. Best, MH

I have state farm house and car. They are a nightmare. After a hurricane (and I live in the mountains) we had tropical winds of 90 or miles an hour 2 years ago and it made huge trees on the back property fall over on my roof in the back of it and popped all the screws of the metal roof. Took down 9 trees. They send an agent and quote 600.00 for getting trees taken off and replace/repair the roof damage. Well the adjuster came out in his dress shoes and clothes and insisted to climb on the roof which had wet leaves on it even though we advised not. He has the ladder on the front of the house on the roof, jumps up and down on a gable roof and he falls off ladder and all damaging the front end. Now the company gives another quote of 3000.00 because they need to replace a fourth of the roof. Was not happy as it looked like a patchwork quilt in red, they resisted to pay, I went to the mortgage company and they agreed they would send a bank adjuster as there is a "line of view" clause in the policy and the entire roof needed replacement. Took 2 months of this back and forth with them and then when I told them the mortgage company was getting involved and sent it to the vice president they call and the claim is 17000.00 for replacing roof and trees. State Farm is very hard to deal with.

What you really need to be looking at is the insurance companies loss reserves. Doesn’t matter how great of a rate you get if your company can’t afford to pay claims. If you are saving $100/month on auto insurance by switching companies you should really do a hard look at that companies financials. Also on a side note, any time our insured is deemed “at fault” it is going to be scrutinized a lot harder because that is what you pay a big insurance company for. Nobody wants there insurer to rollover and play dead because ultimately that is going to cost our client more money in premium down the road. Do your research and don’t listen to this. Please.
@Lastwartipsandtricks2 жыл бұрын
Dave Ramsey is correct on his first part but not on the second part. You want your insurance company to fight to not pay for the other car because that goes against your future premiums and the extra cost to you. No one pays more than State Farm and USAA for your actual car when you insure with them. Independent agents also will sell you companies like Hippo, Lemonade, The General and other substandard companies that will likely be cheaper on the front end but they won’t pay for your car when you damage it in an accident or have a comprehensive claim and they won’t pay for your claim if you do anything outside of the norm like lend your car to your sibling or parent who’s not listed on the policy or have your 16 year old have an accident the day they start driving and you haven’t yet added them as a driver to the policy. All insurance companies are not created equal.

Natty Fatty Powerlifting well for one thing each state has different coverage requirements and some coverages exist in some states and not in others (Personal Injury Protection). Just like the cost of living and food is different from state to state, insurance is no exception. So if you move from a state where less coverage is required and the state minimums are lower to a state where more coverage is required (AND top that off with moving to an area where accidents are more frequent in the area and statistically speaking you are more at risk) then it’s not exactly surprising how much your rates can go up quite a bit. But they can also go down quite a bit too depending on where you go.

Not really. Just kind of depends on the company and their ways of claims. Claims is such a cloud of grey area unless there is someone definitely at fault with evidence to provide. Generally claims are hard because most of the time, people don't want to listen to claims department when they ask for things like pictures, police report, damages, receipts in order to realistically play for an accurate payout for the claim.

On 2 occasions I had claims on state farm. I was astonished on how fast I got my money. It was less than 2 weeks both times. They even let me drive to the office to pickup the check instead of waiting for the normal mail delivery. Dave's experience is unfortunate but he shouldn't blanket his opinion on the whole company. Also, one of my claims was with a friend driver and that didn't slow down the process. Yes the big companies can be more expensive but they do provide excellent service, at least in my case. Maybe Dave was at fault and so they gave him a hard time 😅😅

Any insurance companies goal is going to be to protect their insured. If you’re a claimant, it is almost always going to be a fight unless the companies insured outright tells the company “hey I did this it was my fault. Use my policy to pay for the damages.” Even if you do so, your company still has the right to an investigation to determine lability. Claims are a case by case basis thing; and one poor experience does not a poor company make. The general public in this industry is so quick to have one bad experience and then claim for the rest of their lives that “COMPANY A IS AWFUL THEY DIDNT PAY ME” I’ve done claims. I’ve sold insurance for a variety of companies. Have been on both the front and back end, I can assure you, regardless of whatever company you’re with, they WANT to pay your claim. If you’re there insured. Regardless of that, they still have a job to do, and they won’t be as quick to hand out money to someone who has no affiliation to their company. If they’re paying for it, they’re going to make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that the money is owed.

Once I was cut off by a 18 wheeler and my driver side mirror got smacked off by an orange construction cone on the highway in AZ. Your price is determined by statistics. If your learn how companies rate you then you can make better choices. Switching every year eventually puts you in the defector pool and most companies will charge you more because your a bad investment. You need enough insurance to prevent losing your assets.
