I can only say good things about my SE 1st Edition; the 1.5 stunned me with getting 60mpg+ coming round the M25 from Windsor as far as the Dartford tunnel. And it pulls well on acceleration with little to no noise. As you say, comfortable and smooth, quiet; and well refined. So glad you mentioned the rear wiper; my dealer forgot to mention it and phoned me on the Monday to ask if I wanted one.

Thank you for your comment John. I’m really happy to hear you’re enjoying your new Octavia. 60+ mpg is awesome with the 1.5! I’ve had viewers claim over 75 mpg with the diesel. It is an awesome all round family car.

Brilliant review thank you. I've been an Avensis guy for over 10 years. It's been great for space for tooling about with the kids and all the luggage for holidays but now that they made then saloons I'm a bit bummed with them. Octavia might well be the way forward.

The Octavia Estate is an option on our company car list, I'm of similar stature to yourself, and was concerned that those "wrap-around" seats might not be comfortable. I'm pleased to say you've laid those fears to rest. The VRS 2.0TDI 200 is also an option, but I do wonder if the suspension set up might be a bit "harsh". I've not been able to get a test drive, so I have to rely on reviews.... which have been a god send. So thank you very much.

I've just hired one for a week. I asked for a diesel hatchback but ended up with a petrol estate. Not only that, but it's a hybrid. Now I'm a bit of a technophobe but I thought I'd approach it with an open mind. Firstly, it took 5 hours to top up with electrickery which lasted only 40 miles. We had quite a lot of kit to fit in including a very large suitcase, two cabin bags, a large bag for life, a laptop case and a camera bag. The estate didn't have a loading lip but did have a sliding load cover. I liked the feel of the controls but thought the tablet contained a few too many minor controls. Having to go to a sub menu to adjust the heater or A/C took too long, as opposed to pushing a button or twisting a knob. It's fitted with an auto box with a dinky little finger tip control which l presume is the one mentioned in the report. On our 275 mile drive to Western Scotland and another 80 miles when we got here the "tablet" showed 55 mpg which l checked on a calculator and found to be correct. Was the performance good enough? It certainly was for me, especially with 2 small dogs on the back seat. True, it was no Focus but the first Focus l drove was just after they came out and I'm 22 years older so that isn't really an issue. Would l buy one? Yup without a doubt. I'm really impressed with the way it goes, rides and stops. Oh and it seems to have some sort of autonomous braking although I don't think it would stop you completely, but it will slow you down when you get to a lower speed limit. A bit of EU nannying it would appear.

When I was looking for a new car at the end of 2020 I looked at the Golf. I was very disappointed with interior quality. I also found the rear legroom wasn’t as generous and the rear seats less comfortable. When I chose to go down the EV route and bought the MG EV I was surprised to find more soft touch plastic. As MG is supposed to be a budget brand it should make VW take notice. My previous car, the Superb, was solid and beautifully built.

Thanks for the review. I bought a brand new 1.5 SEL TSI 1st Edition (NEVER had a brand new car before!!) and I think it's a great car. I had a MK2 Octavia for 10 years and it loved it. I only changed cars when it failed the MOT. My MK4 isn't quite top of the range so it doesn't have park assist, which would have come in handy in some supermarket carparks. I agree with you, I prefer the dial light switch rather than the push buttons. The only niggle is the infotament system. There must be some kind of bug as I can't toggle between miles and km on the speedometer. Not a big deal but it will be useful when I drive in the Continent. Overall, I am really happy with the car and I look forward to going on long journeys in it when the lockdown ends.

Hi there. Thank you for the comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying your new Octavia. I have heard a couple of people experiencing issues with km and mph on the car. It’s a hugely comfortable car and you’ll enjoy driving many miles behind the wheel of the Octavia. Enjoy.

Have you found how to change between Imperial and metric yet? I only have the SE 1st Edition and it was something I noticed took a bit of finding but when I changed it everything changed; mpg went to lpk, mph on the speedo went to kph, and fuel remaining also changed to kilometres. It's there; I just off the top of my head can't remember where but sure it's in the settings somewhere.
@Onbehaard3 жыл бұрын
@@johnbower7452 No, I haven't managed to change it. I found the options under settings but the radio buttons were stuck on Imperial whether I press metric or not. The Sat Nav is always in km. There is a lot of discussion about this at the Britskoda forum. It seems to be one particular lot of software. People aren't happy. I can find ways round it but I really shouldn't have to.

There seems to be alot of owner complaints regarding software issues with majority of this model which affects the use of simple things like aircon and major things like car hitting brakes as the car thinks there is an object in front it. Has this now been resolved or is Skoda still denying there is an issue?

In March 24 I bought one of the last of the Mk3 models (20 plate) because I'm in the minority that preferred its design. Coming from a long line of Fords (7 Mondeo's and fiestas) I'm a big fan of this 1.5 TSi. It's comfortable, quiet, a bit of a workhorse but fast enough and very frugal. I'm old enough to remember the Skoda Estelle and similar products and can tell this still springs to mind in my peers when we discuss cars. But having also owned a golf gtd for 3 years, I can appreciate how competitive this range is where it matters. It's good to hear the MK4 is a further step up in certain areas but I'm content where I am. Also happy for my friends to spend thousands more on a badge and a brand (primarily) and marginal advantages. Maybe I should buy a VRs and shake them up 🤔😂
