Please do more of these! I am a student and I love working on stuff like this. This is almost calming to me.

Great! We can use this video as a benchmark to know how good we are in Inventor and how much we have to improve. Thanks Neil!

Shit... by this metric I just realized what I n00b I am. Just when I thought I was getting a good grip in Inventor even though I'm still a student. And he didn't really mess with with any of the surface tools (I didn't notice)

Ha! Finally! I've wanted to see you just go at modeling something for a while, but never thought you'd have time for it. Thanks!

Hell, yes, Neil! I, for one, would love to see this rim modeled in Fusion 360. Thanks for this...well, "non-tutorial", mate. :)

It's always interesting to see how other people use the tools to get to a result. I always used to tell people in my training classes that there are 10 different ways to get to the result. Cool vid-

I'm totally with you. I've done many models with the "that looks good enough" technique :)

+Jess Neal There's definitely a lot of bad practice in here, some questionable dimension choices and a lot of corners cut but cos I had only the wheel dia and width to go off, the rest was utter guess work!

Proper stuff 🤙🏼 just curious though, using the file provided, can I 3D print a small model of this? I have these rims and have been wanting to make a 1:12 scale for a model I’m trying to make of my car.

This video is superb. Then I download the file and and took a good look at the wheel in a 2560x1440 25" screen... I doubt I would be able to ever forget this model next time I see a nice wheel on any car. Just flawless work mate

Neil i know your a busy man as always, especially with you working on tutorials on Plural sight, but vids like these are amazing and greatly appreciated. Seeing your workflow and the tools you use to achieve the results is very powerfully learning experience. Will you be doing any more of these anytime soon?. I think it would be cool if you did something nerdy like a Vader helmet or something like that lol.

Another great video man! if you do another one of these in the future, which I hope you do, I'd like to suggest a cool looking computer case or something like that. cheers!

I enjoyed watching you work through this design exercise. There were a couple times your technique here made me rethink how I would approach this problem. I learned a thing or two.. I dug the soundtrack. Would you please add the artist/track names to the show notes?
@Neil3D
@Neil3D 8 жыл бұрын
+passivate thanks yea the artist is now in the description, I was planning on baking the artist credit into the video but forgot at the last second to do it! I'm gonna do more video like this, I forget how these can be just as useful if not more useful than targeted tip vids and I really enjoy doing these too.

"I bow down to your magnificence". Awesome job. Perhaps Autodesk intends to eventually replace Inventor with Fusion, the same way Inventor replaced Mechanical Desktop.

Brilliant tutorial, as always, watched it through twice! I'm a bit slow ;) I know it's been up a while, so maybe a longshot, but can you name the tune used as a backing track, please? It's lovely to work with it on as background.

Hi Neil, as usual great video. After you gave me the advice to upgrade to Inventor 2017 for better working with 4K, I'm pretty happy with that :) Why are you using Fusion to render that model? I recently read an article about 360 cloud rendering. How's that working? Would be nice to see a tutorial about that. Which render tool do you prefer e.g. for presentations? Lots of questions but I hope you can help :) Greetings, Lars

Just in my opinion the rendering output of Fusion is slightly better than Inventor, and faster. The final Fusion render in this vid where the rim is spinning is a cloud rendered turntable, it's handy but not very configurable, I think they need to put a lot more options into it. I've always preferred Showcase for final renders but it won't be around for much longer, so I think either native rendering in CAD will be the next best option or possibly investigate third party options like Keyshot

is this a functional rim? i was wandering if i can make one... I dont understand the outer part where the tires should be firmly locked, i dont know how it should look. can one make a 3D aluminium print of it and would it brake under pressure?

Why did you use fusion 360 to render it?
@Neil3D
@Neil3D 8 жыл бұрын
I just prefer the rendering output quality of Fusion, it's weird... Inventor has far more config & options for rendering but the output of Fusion is better (in my opinion anyway), it displays shadows and reflections a lot better than Inventor. I did pull it into Showcase but I think that application is lagging behind now.

If you gret an M3 or M4, you should get an E92, the newer F80/F82s don't sound all that nice.

sorry but really hard and frustrating to follow - my drawing does not do what yours does and I am left scratching my head. And its so time compressed that if you miss a little step its a pain in the ass to see it again because dragging one second on YT player moves it quite a bit.
