For anyone else having the problem I had where the master control doesn't rotate the character properly- take everything and put it under the Master controller. Not just the joint controls, but the joints/IKs themselves. Select all the parts of the rig in your outliner and middle click drag them into master control. Worked for me!

I skimmed through this 3 part series just to start familiarizing myself with rigging (I am a concept artist) and I must say, you have a very clear manner of verbal instruction. I like that you left in the error you made in part two with the ankle joint controller and constraint, then you showed how to troubleshoot it. Excellent tutorial series. This series could easily be uploaded for $$$ so thank you for taking the time to do all this and upload it for free here on KZbin.

DAMN!!! This was a f*cking great tutorial! In matter of fact, not just a tutorial, it was a whole course about rigging which helped me a lot with learning more Maya skills. I really respect that you keep on explain all things what you do instead of just saying "...and then choose this and set this because you must" like many other instructors. Good job! I am your new fan! :)

For the knee controller, the problem in this setup is if I want to rotate just the foot, the knee would also move since the knee controller is parented to the foot controller. A better alternative is to: 1.) Point constraint the knee controller to the knee joint. 2.) Open the connection editor 3.) Connect the knee controller's Y rotation to the Twist attribute of the leg's IK handle. Now if I want to rotate just the foot, the knee wouldn't follow.

Fantastic tutorial for rigging, i knew nothing about rigging, and know how to do the basics of it, however, with my master controller, when i try to rotate the master controller, it distorts the mesh, is this due to the connections on the hips and chest (the roll and twist thing), i dont know too much about the connection editor, never used it

Hi! Thanx for the video. I just have one issue. The way the chest is connected in this tutorial, I cannot arch or round the back. So i can't really make use of the spin. I think the chest controller has to be connected to the top point of the spine curve. I tried both point constraint and orient, but it doesn't connect in a way so the spine can be bent. Then I looked in the connection manager and there I didn't find an option to connect to TRANSLATE of a single point. Any idea how this is done?

I have an error in the last step, with the pole vector. When I apply it, the knee becomes deformed. What I think may fail is that my model has her legs a little open. But it would have to work the same, I suppose. Do you know what my mistake may be? Thanks for this tutorial, very well explained!

We didn't cover some stuff that I believe is important, pole vectors, scaling constraints in case you have to scale your character, and there's no control to bend the spine!

Thank you that was a very nice lesson, but what about if we have an object that is sort of hanging on a belt or something and it needs to be pushed up or down depending on leg position, but not deform(change form)? I also want to learn about self collision of hard clothing parts like armor, that also cannot deform, just move on their hinges.

Hello. Thank You for the superb series of tutorials. Helped me a lot. I noticed that you didn't create controllers for the shoulders. Hey man, awesome tutorials, i'm an animation student and this video helps a lot, are you gonna do a facial rig tutorial? i've been struggling to search for one.

Hey first off great tutorial, you just safed me half a semester of studying, but when I try to rotate my Master CTRL My whole rig gets messed up because its children dont follow the rotation exactly. So everytime I want to rotate a Character more than 90 degrees i have to manually adjust the positions of the other Controllers which can get pretty annoying, does anyone else have this Problem and if so is there a way to fix it?
@3dextrude6 жыл бұрын
That sounds strange, did make sure all your controls had their transformations frozen? That's the only thing I can think off that would mess it up.
@KornyFX6 жыл бұрын
@@3dextrude yeah I just checked there all fine, I'll just start over maybe it'll work this time around.
@anonmcanon9105 жыл бұрын
@@KornyFX I'm pretty sure this is caused by the spine curve from the spine IK... I'm not sure how best to solve it however.

This rigging tutorial was amazing. Thank you so much. I do have a question though. When I'm moving my controllers let's say for the arm and I move them past my model the arm moves with it and when it reaches as far as the arm could possibly go then I can still keep moving my controllers well past my model and still keep moving them away. Is there a way for me to prevent the contollers from moving so far from my model and joints.
@TopCutsAudio5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can set constraints on the joints to make sure they don't move past a certain parameter
@kyrasimbii26615 жыл бұрын
