I have a 2013 SVT package with the classic ‘65 white and blue stripe paint. I don’t think I could ever love a car more. Horrible mileage, but so fun to drive. The funny thing is, it looks obviously very nice and it’s clearly a fast car, but I don’t get a whole lot of turning heads because the average person does not know just how much of a beast these things are. But then you’ll pull up next to another mustang and make eye contact at the light, and they’ll just shake their head like “no I’m not racing you bro.” I love it.

Great video, I love your honesty, knowledge and insight. Something I didn't mention in my previous comment, even though I just bought one of these today it is the second one I have had. The first one I bought in 2016 and I had it for 4 years and I always beat on it hard and took it through the twisties and the track. It is not just a straight line car, it will take the turns as fast as the GT350 and it actually pulls more lateral G than a Porsche 911 Turbo of the same year model, if the driver is either brave or stupid enough to attempt it. The thing is you have to get over the fear of death and terror of crashing the car. It isn't forgiving but once you learn to control the power (there is a marginal window of where you can feel the car is about to go out of control when you're putting the power down in a turn) you can push it to the edge and take the turns very fast and it is very rewarding to feel the approach of the grip limit of the car in the turn and control that massive power to make it do what you want. Doing the same thing with the GT350 is like training a bloodhound to sit. It doesn't take much time or effort and it is fun to see, but like the dog, the GT350 is so smart and loyal that it will do whatever you want perfectly on command. It is nice, just not much of a thrill for me. Controlling the GT500 and putting its power down in a turn is like training a Tyrannosaurus Rex to balance on a ball, terrifying, and just as rewarding. I drove the GT350 once which was insanely easy to take fast in the turns, but I find the GT500 far more rewarding and fun because of the rawness and the fact that it takes a lot of skill to push the car fast and hard in the turns. Though the GT350 does kill it in the looks departments. The GT500 looks great, just not as good as the GT350. Again, loved the video, you know your trade.

Enjoyed your video. Sticky rubber makes my 800 hp 13 GT500 way more manageable than the stock 662 hp with the awful OEM Goodyears.. That much power makes tire compound way more important than I ever knew. A good Nitto or Toyo drag/race compound will make this car hook and scoot, even in turns! Keep a set of Michelins Pilots for cooler weather when soft compounds won't hold heat. The 13-14 actually has a lot of aero built into it, starting at the front. It's tweaked to knock on the door of 200 mph. .

Really love this car. I recently let go of a 2012 Corvette Z06. I'm in my early 60s and have bad knees. Getting out of the Vette has become a bit difficult so I decided to get rid of it and buy something else. The 2013/2014 Shelby GT500 was on a very short list of cars I wanted. But I ended up going in a different direction and bought a 2013 Camaro ZL1 Convertible with 6,100 miles on it. That car was spotless. But I could have been very happy with a 2013/2014 GT500 had I found one of interest.

Enjoyed the ride. There are those of us who simply love the joy of DRIVING. I’m a big Mustang fan - Auto Fanatic appreciates that Ford is building a great car at a price point. Many reviewers ding Ford for not matching much more expensive cars as far as fit, finish and material - I love my Mustang GT PP1 for what it is - a great every day high performance FUN ride. As and added bonus the car is 100% reliable & maintenance costs are minimal. Best $50K I ever spent!

Great video and spot on with your description/diff of the two cars. I just traded my immaculate Black 2009 GT500 with 11,000+ miles (had it for 3 years] in for a 2013 Black Boss 302 Laguna Seca with 4,500 miles. I thought about a GT350 but always thought the 302 LS version would be closer to a sports car experience while keeping one foot in the more muscle car experience of my GT500. When the Boss 302 LS popped up in the year and color with low miles I made the trade. Really loved my GT500 but the Laguna Seca takes it to another level and definitely achieved the more sports car experience. Having both the standard key and the track key is a bit like having two cars for me as well, nice bonus. I used AutoFanatic 007, Snow Storm and Wheel Cleaning Foam on the GT500 to maintain it and all I use on the Boss now as well, great products!
@johnwalker56222 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing. I sold my 2011 GT500 for a 2013 Boss LS. The Boss just wins on paper, but I miss that supercharger whine sometimes.

I have a Boss 302 LS too and it is in it's own league. A very special car. Built in house by Ford Performance before SVT was renamed Ford Performance. The Canadian firm "Multimatic" did the grunt work and development of the Boss 302 starting in the early 2010's and the final versions of the street version benefitted from the lessons learned racing and developing the Boss 302R.

I love my '14! Its got the track pack, the power pack, and its deep impact blue with the matte black stripes. I've had it just over a year and it's the most fun you can have driving a car. Spot on with the review! You mentioned the steering feeling a bit loose, with the track pack the steering and suspension are adjustable with the push of a button. In sport mode, everything tightens up really nicely. The track pack also gives you a trans cooler, oil cooler, and rear diff cooler. Power pack gives you drilled and slotted rotors. You also noted that the rear tires break free really easily. Ford made a mistake with the factory Goodyear tires they opted for. Theyre terrible and switch those to R888Rs, Pilot Sport P2s or 3Ss will solve that for you. It will still break free if you want it too, or if you're not careful, but I've got 700whp on the 3Ss and dropping to 3rd at 60mph just hooks and books!
@autofanaticcars3 жыл бұрын
yes the tires that are on the car suck but we wanted to keep it all original for resale. the steering modes work ok but nothing like on the GT350 but the GT500 is a very enjoyable toy for sure I love it.

Great observations. I went from a ‘13 Boss - to a ‘16 GT350 to my present ‘14 GT500. I was missing the “muscle car” feel. The GT350 was so good and predictable - that it almost became boring ... I know that might not make sense to many - but it was my personal experience. I got my 500 last year with 2900 miles. After 1000 miles since - it’s a thrill every time I drive it. I found that switching to Michelin PS4S tires (which come in stock wheel sizes) transformed the car into an incredibly safer performer when mashing the throttle. Not kidding - it was dangerous with the Goodyear’s - but a pleasure with the Michelin’s. I have no plans to sell this one ever!!
@autofanaticcars3 жыл бұрын
As I mentioned in this video its kinda what you already experienced how the newer cars are entirely different and are mostly a sports car than a muscle car. awesome yea the P4s really help put the power down the OEM Goodyears are scary on the public roads with any real throttle input. Enjoy it

You could make it a great southern california canyon carver with minor upgrades, Ford Racing Suspension or a Cortex set up. White Line Watts Link differential, plants the car rear end in corners on bumps centers differential. Part is about $1000 to $1,500 Cortex makes one as well. And of course 6 Piston Brembo Big Brake Kit, if the GT500 dosent come with it. Contential Dry and Wet Extremes, will make it corner pretty well using the hp climbing not in corners

I also owned a 2018 GT350R and sold it, as there are plenty of amazing IRS sports cars. Long live the S197 Shelby GT500s! We also just purchased a new Mach E but we haven't taken delivery due to a recall item.

That car should have the double chin spoiler or front splitter whatever people like to call it. I own a 2014 Shelby GT500 with 13,000 miles white with blue stripes opposite of yours. My friends give me hell because it just sits in my garage covered up.lol

I know these S550s always bring up the track, but how many actually go to the track? If they do, how much? This car can actually be enjoyed on a daily basis in an old school, fun way. The GT350 has an incredibly unreliable engine and I'm surprised people still buy those.
@autofanaticcars2 жыл бұрын
your reading too many forums on the GT350 being unreliable, almost everyone with issues ignored low oil levels, used cheap oil and extended time between changes or modified their engines all 3 of these are culprits to engine failures. I daily drove a GT350 for 3 years not a single issue.
@johnwalker56222 жыл бұрын
@@autofanaticcars I agree with you halfway, but the last time I got my oil changed in my F150, the dealer owner's GT350 was getting his second engine. It's the only car I've heard of where people go through engines regularly. He said he loved his car but they aren't designed for high mileage, as in over 10k miles. His words not mine.
@autofanaticcars2 жыл бұрын
the GT350 motors are pure race motors, high compression high vibration and require lots of upkeep just as if an engine was being used in a race after the race the entire motor gets torn down and rebuilt, you gotta change and check the oil and keep on top of these cars, never rev when they are cold and treat them as a race engine supposed to be treated. this is what most owners do not understand and Kaboom! I use the best oil in mine Amsoil Signature and change oil ever 2500-3000 miles and always before and after a track event. these dealers telling you to change oil at 10k is the worst information to give for any car with a race derived engine it is ridiculous but I guess Ford likes wasting their money on warranty. Even the GT500 needs lots of upkeep they foul plugs so often and constantly need tune ups to keep them running properly. I just did a complete overhaul on the 2014 GT500
@johnwalker56222 жыл бұрын
@@autofanaticcars That's true. These aren't some truck, there is a lot of upkeep with them. That's why I never buy used from a dealer with sports cars. I want to see who they belonged to.

I'm always baffled at the number of people in these KZbin comment section who seem to just buy, trade up, and switch out $60,000 cars like this like it's no biggy. And then also own multiple of them! Where are you KZbin commenters getting this money from? 😆

Nothing old and dated about a 14 gt500, a pulley change and one could easily be at 700 crank hp.
@demiurgeobzen3273 жыл бұрын
He's talking about the suspension/drivetrain components not the power. It's on a live rear axle plus it has the ride height of a pickup truck, not to mention the super dated looking plastic interior. It's a sweet car that I'd personally love to own but it does have dated parts.
