With removing the speed limiter, you also have to upgrade the driveshaft. The V6 has a weak shaft from the factory that breaks at 120 mph, hence the limiter. With a solid set of gears, a driveshaft, and a nice tune, these cars can seriously move.

But they didnt. The genesis rivaled the gt in cost. Thats the problem. Still a pat on the back to hyundai for the genesis, minus the sloppy shifter as a reminder that its still a hyundai. It should have been an easy fix before the first production run but im not sure they ever addressed it. They are def not up to par with ford where fit and finish is concerned but they also dont have a long history of performance cars. Now in the used market the price difference might evaporate, idk. Def easier to search for mustangs though, obviously.

Thanks almost in part with FRS and BRZs that have had more accidents, the Genesis tends to hold more value than its competitors during that time. Where as Mustangs just tend to sell for a lot regardless, they're Ford after all.

I used to think the Genesis Coupe was a POS. Then I took a drive in one. Holy shit, that perception was blasted away. The car is fast, feels fast, and is fun too drive! If you look at the Ultimate, which is priced about $33k, it has some amazing features with it. I'm surprised you could get Nav, a 10 speaker HD audio system, full leather seats, and a great warranty for the price (some dealers offer free tires and oil for the car's life). It's the best value on the market today for a sports car. While I think the BRZ is great, it just lacks the value for the money. The Genesis is the most bang for your buck and I was surprised at the speed and luxury you get with it. Comparing the Mustang to this doesn't make much sense to me. While the Mustang will be the faster of the two (if we compare the 5.0L w/ performance since they're the same price), The Genesis is a performance blend like the Audi S5. You're paying for performance, practicality, and luxury all together. The Mustang has more speed and some of the same features, but it's nowhere near as practical or special as the Genesis. The 2015 Mustang Interior just felt old to me. Either way, I don't think you can go wrong with either car. It's just more about what fits your personality.

Hyundai has already discontinued the 2.0T. The 2.0T base was priced at 25k so now the V6 models are going to adopt that 2.0 price. While the up and coming V8 model will start around 30k. So now pricing will pretty much be identical to the stangs. Honestly the genesis looks way fucking better.

But in general the Genesis is a better sports car than the Mustang. The Mustang just looks better (the V8 Mustang is a different story though).

I love the styling on this mustang, but it’s true that Ford skimped our going old school in handling and suspension technology. All the money is in the motor. Overall, if I had a family and fun curvy roads in the neighborhood, Genesis Coupe. However just for the pure style and straight line performance this Mustang is gold.

For everyone complaining about the Hyundai being more expensive, keep in mind they are comparing both cars because they are both V6s. The V6 Mustang is a base model Mustang, the V6 in the Hyundai is the premium model. If you want to compare prices, both base models are priced very close to each other. A V8 Mustang where I live is about $12000 more than the highest priced Genesis Coupe. If you're focusing on price, you need to compare apples to apples.

Just priced out a base model 5.0 on Ford's USA website. With absolutely zero options it priced out at $32000. Other countries like Canada they start at $41000. If you want to equip the Mustang with similar options that the Genesis has standard, $32000 becomes $40400.

Hyundai at some point will move their V8 (that already use on their higher-end models) to these models probably and it will be very close or even equal to the naturally aspirated V8 variant of the new Mustang.. Now if u say about supercharger/turbo types we move on topics as well... But now as thing stands I dont see a problem with either car.. Well the Mustang Perf Package has 3.31 gears too which they didn't mention. It's not exactly base model, but still the test was not really fair. They should have flashed the Mustang to remove the speed limiter and improve throttle response. The input lag is awful. My first mods will be tuner (91 or 93 octane tune), adjustable panhard, and lowering springs to remove body roll.

The Track and R-Spec models feature track-tuned spring, damper and stabilizer bar settings. Available camber adjustment bolts let drivers make additional suspension tuning changes. There's a rear Torsen limited-slip differential that guarantees better control and acceleration out of tight corners. Sticky, staggered fitment performance tires on 19-inch Euroflange dark graphite-finish alloy wheels. And higher performance Brembo brakes. Entry model Genesis is not the same as a Track model.

Subaru lies about its 0 to 60 times. They claim sub 5 seconds and 13.3 1/4. I have seen several hundred stock runs at the Strip at lvms and have yet to see a sub 14 second run. That's why the company is almost out of the American market.

The reason you saw bad runs was because they were bad drivers. Anybody can take there car to the track, I've seen fast cars get bad times. Subaru testers know what there doing. Just because people at the track can't get those times doesn't mean the car can't.

The reason people keep saying that the mustang is limited to 120 mph is because of the final drive gear ratio or the 3.31:1 i believe. Meaning that it is faster off the line. The bad thing about that is that you cannot have both off the line acceleration and good top speed. The Performance Pack Mustangs come with that Limited Slip Diff with 3:31 gears that make it a great accelerating car after a turn giving it that sport car feel, but are compromising top speed to 115-120 mph.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the limiter is because of the aluminum drive shaft. I've heard that it can "warp" and "blow up" at speeds over 125mph. Just something to think about.

An honest review would have pitted the Gensis 2.0 against the V6 Mustang...since they cost about the same. But the reviewers admitted how terrible the Genesis 2.0 handled(strong understeer) and how underpowered it was, that is wouldn't even be worth comparing it. I bought a Mustang V6 after doing laps in a Ferrari 458 behind one. Absolutely no way I could pass him. I could get to his bumper, but that was it. Yeah, he was a professional driver (and I'm good but not THAT good), but if y'all think you can drive the V6 Mustang to it's limit, then you should be getting paid to drive for a team with sponsors... Those laps also made me realize that I don't need 500hp to go fast - my little V6 Mustang - with a good driver, will beat a 500hp with a novice driver any day. And get 30mpg. And cost less to put on the track. And less insurance. And....

You do know the genesis has a speed limiter of 150 , it can go up to 180 without problems. Mustang is shit quality that's why they have the governor on of 130...

Charles C. like I said before, you are comparing Hyundai's top end coupe to Ford's entry level daily driver meant coupe, a rental car. I call bullshit on the Genesis going anywhere above 155. No way that is even physically possible. Now you want to compare cars within the same price range, compare it against the GT, and it would beat the Genesis even in the gas mileage department. The Genesis is beat here, this review, if anything, just makes Fords new 2011+ Mustang V6 shine.

...lol All the premium trim adds is looks and some comforts for around 26k. The Genesis has a track pack witch add all the track performance enhancements. Just because they both cars have a V-6 it does not mean they are on the same league.

I thought that at first but purchased my 2103 (I almost did not get it for this reason). After a couple months of seeing several earlier models around town, I'd have to say mine is much nicer. The front end at first looks chunky, but it screams performance and makes the older models look so vanilla in comparison.

+Joe Burke The 3.8 Ultimate add nothing performance wise to the R-Spec, so you can get an R-Spec for $29K and actually gain a bit of performance because it weights 80lb less than the Ultimate.

Thanks, but that's not my Mustang in this video, It's just the nice V6 of you tube mate. Me I drive a 2012 Boss 302, it's on my chanel if you want to take a look and hear it roar, but unfortunatly no track video. I tried it last summer and post a good 12:28 pass bone stock with only drag tire. Of course the standard 3:73 torsen gear, adjustable damper and 444hp 7500 rpm screaming V8 engine of the Boss 302 helped me a lot!

Just let you know, I bought a Hyundai and a Kia brand new 2009, and 2010. One had blown engine the first year and was replaced under warranty, one had blown engine the first year and replaced with engine parts. I currently still own the 2, plus 2 Hondas, 2 audis, 1 bmw, and a dodge. All bought new, none had blown engine. One of the audi had a injector problem and was replaced under warranty in the 2nd year of ownership.

The premium model Mustang is $2K less than the R-Spec Hyundai, and over $5K less than the as-tested Genesis. That's nearly a 20% premium in price. So, while both drivers agree that the Hyundai is better overall, is it 20% better?

I think its more to do with the fact that a 500hp engine will easily do those speeds but no one wants to engineer tires, body panels, crash systems, etc. because no one really needs it, but if they sell a car that will do more than those speeds, then they need to guarantee and test all those componenents up to those speeds. WIth a veyron, ppl understand if the tires wear out in 12 minutes at top speed, not in their reg cars, though.

yes you're right about the mustang gt and all it's accessories, but genesis is'nt supposed to compeat with gt is it now. anyway's you can get all of that in a mustang v6 for under 27 grand right around where the base v6 genesis starts and for the r spec you cant even have navigation,but if going for the r spec would you really need it

30+ MPG with 305 hp isn't a bad combination even more so when you get S/C it for 450+ hp and have a lighter car than the GT.

Obviously most people here probably can't read. it ISN'T the base mustang model. it's the 26k perfomance model. Yeah it is lower than the 33K...but if you add the leather and stuff (that the genesis has) on the mustang as well, it goes about the same.

I'd like to correct Dave Pratte. The 120mph limiter isn't due to power. Ford built the V6 with a driveshaft that anything over 120 and the driveshaft breaks apart. Put an aluminum drive shaft and redo the review

If you are comparing lap times why would you not buy a cheap tuner and remove the speed limiter on the mustang? No way you can accurately compare lap times with the speed limiter.

2013 with 50HP increase was a 3:13.9. The 2011 V6 mustang did a 3:12.5 as it ran against its 113mph limiter for like 15 seconds a lap. The Genesis can't even beat the 2011 V6 mustang, just wait until the 2015, 50th anniversary V6 goes direct injection. This is the only advantage(and they still lost) that the Hyundai will have. PS- the Mustang was faster in the 1/4 mile than the new 2013 Genesis coupe too.

Problem with this comparison is that the Mustang V6 is designed to be a compromise for those that don't want to spring for the GT model. As such, it is NOT the Mustang's performance model...the Genesis Coupe 3.8, on the otherhand, IS a performance model. This would be like comparing a base Civic with an Evo...just because they are both powered by 4 cylinder motors. It's stupid.

The point is not about motor sizes. It's about price level & intended performance. The Genesis is supoosed to be competeing at the pony car level with Camaro SS & Mustang GT, even though SS & GT are V8. SS, GT, & Genesis are all the same price range. The Mustang V6 isn't a performance level car like the SS, GT, or Genesis. Mustang V6 is for everyday driving with little or no intent of being performance. If Ford wants to they can put DI & turbo (EcoBoost) on their 3.7L V6 and easily get 400hp

The cars are also all running the same tire by the way and all gs (large six cylinder or v8 powered coupes) st(compact cars) all receive slotted and vented rotors stock pads and stronger caliber because oem will bend ,brake cooling upgrades ajustable shock's everything eles is stock and of course a roll cage.

Im a Hyundai certified technician and I see a LOT of similarities between Fords and Hyundai's. Look at the body styles between the 2. Also the engines are almost identical.

A lot of people don't have a heavy foot or that crave for power, but would still like the style of a mustang and enjoy cruising in one. Plus that new v6 isn't a chump either,305 hp is plenty of power for a normal person.

Your Cobra is in a different league. I could say the same about an Evo with an HTA30/35 slapped on it tuned on E85. Hyundai is making a new name for itself over the past few years, and it's people like you that make it impossible for them to really get a good reputation. It makes almost 350bhp. It uses direct injection (which Ford didn't adopt until recently, in fact, the 2014 5.0 mustang will be the first one with it. Ford is a big company with decent cars. Doesn't mean Hyundai can't compete.

very fair evaluation, take that limiter off the mustang and i think the speed factors would be much closer, but with a $7,000 difference in price for the models the mustang could definitely add some sweet mods to kick it out a lot better. overall really nice. still love my mustang though

It is in the genesis, but not the coupe. the test is about a v6 vs v6 some people want the performance but not have really bad millage so they go for a v6 there's nothing wrong with that.

actually one of my good friends has a Focus ST and the eco boost is great, that car tears around streets, as well as the Taurus SHO, it halls, Eco boost has been a huge success, and your comment on the design, everyone on the planet can see the similarities between the new fords and European cars like Aston Martin. They are fords with ford badges, just because they are styled like European cars just means they are finally good looking. its not a bad thing, actually learn things first
