I did too. I gave up processed foods. I ate chicken and turkey. Lots of veggies, took choleteroff by nature made and nicotinic acid. Vit d3 + k2. 1 Brazil nut everyday for my thyroid (selenium) and walking everyday. Graves’ disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes. It took 3 months after omitting all sugar. Graves in remission, cholesterol healthy now. Pre diabetic. Later I gave up gluten to treat an underlying cause of autoimmune diseases-leaky gut and the remaining joint pain inflammation disappeared. The final stage ( increasing endurance and energy) I began taking liposomal b complex. My first symptoms were brain fog, sleeping a lot, low energy with a ton of anxiety. I have my life back and more energy than when I was in college. I think that’s when it all began and the symptoms worsened after pregnancy, diagnosed when my children were in high school. Everything gradually worsened and the diabetes was the wake up call, not the autoimmune disease. I do not take prescription drugs. Also 2000 mg of omega 3 fatty acids and magnesium bisglynate.I began reading a lot of medical studies to heal thyself.

Sadly, most people do not have access to competent health care. And if you seek out a functional medicine physician most of them do not accept insurance so you'll need to pay out of pocket. I've researched this in NC where I live. And Medicare - ugh! I thought when I finally was able to get Medicare things would be easier with regard to seeing doctors but it has actually been proven to be harder since many physicians do not accept Medicare anymore. I appreciate all of the information Dr. Hyman provides (as well as others like him) however most of what he suggests and recommends costs money that many people do not have out of pocket. It shouldn't be like this - everyone should have access to competent healthcare. But most doctors don't even ask you about your diet or lifestyle and seem to just want to get you in and out quickly - or prescribe a pill.

no healthcare in a system, under insurance is helpful. As a nurse of 25 years currently disabled because of insurance medicine, and a patient of 40 years to do negligence and arrogant ignorance...I'll tell you it's not the doctors' fault in the ways you think.....it's the moral compass. If they stay in this junk system tied to insurance, they have bad hearts. They only way we'll change things, is if every one leaves it and we'll rebuild it.

@@barbswerdfeger8672 ... if it were me, first I wrap myself in research what the bacteria strain is, how did I get it, and what can possibly kill it, including killing any biofilms formed by the virus/bacteria. I would go on a very low carb diet, eat lots of meat and proteins, drink lots of clean water, intermittent fasting, go gluten free, and organic everything as much as possible. I just did a 2 week gut cleanse with wormwood/clove/ black walnut tincture, and I added liquid bentonite clay to my regimen after I tested positive for parasites and candida, which I've discovered go hand in hand, not to mention how much they weaken our immune systems. Almost every other country except the U.S recommends parasite cleansing at least once a year. Even on some public medical websites are now posting in journals how they've discovered that a tapeworm that had cancer gave it to its human host, and we wonder why Joe Tippens doesn't have stage 4 cancer anymore after taking dewormer medication. God gave us things to heal us, man destroyed, or has tried to destroy all that knowledge and wisdom.

For what it's worth, skip the "crappy" vegetables and fruits. Along with the cancer generating veggie oils/margarine's, carbs and other processed, so called, food! Turning CARNIVORE, literally, saved my life! I'm not kidding. Nowadays I call "carnivore" a MIRACLE! Yes, with capital letter. For the record I had my own 100% bio veggies garden. Where biological soil improvement was a must. In fact the soil improvement over the years was dramatically better. I even ended up buying a small farm for full biological veggies and soil regeneration! Opposite to most city/internet dwellers, I did give it a real world go. No pesticides or any other "...ides" ever touched my veggies. ;-) Nevertheless over time, I'm 55. The weakness on the health wall show up hard and strong. The ridiculous vegetarian BS took me for a long and hard ride. Not fun at all. Carnivore solved health issues that went back to when I was 10 years old kid! Amazing 45 years! Solved in a couple of months!! What I now tell anyone. Plants do kill you. "Try carnivore for a month". It's that simple... ;-)

Exercise stresses the body (extreme cortisol response after weight lifting and cardio) and vegetables are rarely ever eaten by wild humans; hunter-gatherers. Your list is arbitrary and simply not true. It is mostly due to toxic exposure (air pollution, industrial chemicals and heavy metals through food, dishwasher soap, etc), lack of whole animal foods (including organs) for bioavailable nutrition, microbial exposure disturbance through antibiotics, lack of exposure to natural biomes, breastfeeding and C-section, and also poor quality sleep, too little exposure to sun or vitamin D-synthesizing light, and chronic psychological stress.

Who knew that I didn’t need lotions potions creams and few years stint of Roaccutane! I always been health conscious and asked many doctors if I need to change anything in my diet. The "health sysyem" is certainly failing on that one. It's really shocking and people are getting sicker and even dying from this. Dr. Hyman, I'm a practicing Psychotherapist and i have had MS for 11 years in remission (one relapse in between that i don't like to consider a major one, it was just eye twitching, and then i was put on solumedrol and it went away) Other than that, i have been okay and i give great credit to being active (trained classical dancer) and eliminating processed foods. The only difference is that now, 11 years later i went heavy on alcohol (daily consumption for 3 months), lots of stress, and lots of fast food+ procesed foods again :: the result? A relapse. Numbness returned and i was heavy on the left side of my body . When you have MS for so long and have remained mostly perfectly okay, you forget. I did. And i took everything for granted. I almost considered getting on a DMT but my body revolts so HARD that i experience anxiety for days whenever i think about going that way... Your video has given me hope. t is always so peculiar that people think gluten is the problem. It’s not the tomato, nor the banana, nor the nut, nor the egg: it’s the impaired digestion that begins with a lack of stomach acid. This causes gluten (and other proteins) to enter the small intestine in large chunks. There, they damage the lining of the small intestine, and the body responds by increasing the production of zonulin. As a result, the undigested large gluten fragments enter the bloodstream, and the immune system starts an attack. Gluten is the thief, while the real cause lies in stomach digestion. In addition to poor digestion due to factors such as a lack of stomach acid, deteriorated digestion can also result from weakened mucous membranes caused by deficiencies in important nutrients necessary for healthy mucous membranes. Additionally, insufficient fiber intake and polyphenols can impair digestion, leading to issues with foods like nuts, eggs, gluten, tomatoes, fish, pollen, etc. These are often labeled as allergens, even though they are not allergens, they are normal foods that, due to weakened digestion, are not properly broken down and thus cause damage. It always comes down to the same issue: people experience deficiencies for years, leading to poor digestion, and then blame the food. They become pregnant and pass on these problems, which leads to blaming the genes. As long as we do not learn to take responsibility for "providing our body with what it needs to digest and function properly," we will always point fingers at scapegoats such as gluten, nightshades, eggs, nuts, and even the sun.And nothing will change; people will continue to point fingers until they eventually only want to eat meat and then, instead of dying from autoimmune diseases, face heart failure. And it could be so different: eating what the body needs-vegetables, fruit, nuts, quality meat, quality dairy, laughing with friends, drinking pure water, enjoying delicious pasta with gluten, and eggs-because the intestines, digestion, and the whole body know how to process this food. I wonder how long it will take before people start telling this story as it should be told. And yes, people will need to take responsibility and do what is necessary to stay healthy: eat well and move more instead of sitting. And of course, if damage has already been done by years of not eating and living healthily, and even if that has been passed down from parents, then it is indeed true that one might no longer be able to eat gluten. But let’s stop labeling gluten as the culprit when we know that it is the impaired digestion of the body that is the true cause of this suffering.

Our Daughter got diagnosed with JIA, we have gone all out with functional medicine from 2 functional medicine practitioners, been extensively tested and diets changed, it has been of some help but has not reversed the disease. Unfortunately she is now on TNF alpha blockers, within a week swelling and pain in the joints were gone! I like functional medicine but it might not be the whole answer for everyone, it wasn't for us. Some treatments will work for some people some of the time! I will look into the lung connection, Thanks 🙏

Ya this reminds of my neighbour who was a clean freak when her kids were very young. Everything in her house was unimaginably spotless and disinfected including the kids toys, everything, and not allowing them play in the dirt or pick up all the usual things kids do. Yet for all of those measures her kids were regularly ill and picking up bugs and viruses etc every time they mixed with other kids and returned to school after a break. When we were kids, yes, our parents kept us washed and the house reasonably clean but we were still getting grubby and playing in mud and picking up "dirty" toys and items off the ground... and we just didn't get sick anywhere close on the frequency these neighbours clean freak parents kids did. It seems pretty obvious to me that being exposed to all the various bacteria and nasty microbes etc in SMALL QUANTITIES, had introduced our immune system to them and so we could deal with them unlike these kids from clean freaks parents house. I say this because medically speaking, so far as I'm aware, there was nothing wrong or inherently wrong with these perfectly normal kids other than the fact they were kept "bubble wrapped" from all things "bad", so when they did actually mix with other kids and play with items from other places, their under-exposed immune systems were almost immediately overwhelmed and they became ill where other kids, albeit with snotty noses and coughs etc, didn't fall ill.

This is amazing information. 🙏 Please consider rice can be a huge problem for anyone with gluten intolerances. Until I gave up all grains , I suffered. The amount of heavy metals in rice is another huge issue. And rice is taught to be safe in most gluten free settings. I'm finding many people have no idea that rice , corn , oats... ( all grains) have gluten. So they keep suffering even after going off of wheat, barely , rye. You described the autoimmune reactions, the "close enough" that the body develops intolerances to like items. Even "Google" proclaims them to be gluten free. Although botanists are clear on the fact all grains contain gluten. Many of us are so far along by the time we are introduced to functional medicine (fully understanding our health issues are being driven by food & environment). We need support that doesn't set us up for failure. It took me 15 years to find out whey & casein protein mimicks gluten. That is why many gluten intolerant people are also dairy intolerant... That close enough thing again... And all the conventional farming chemicals are another one, or possibly the original intolerance that started it all... I was treated at Cleveland Clinic Functional Medicine Department for extreme autoimmune reactions several years ago. Reactions that I almost died from several times. It took me years to break free from the typical gluten free foods & understand I needed to be completely grain free to start healing my gut & body. I suffered greatly. I just don't want others suffering like I did. I was willing to be strict & thought I was doing everything right to help my body overcome. Rice , corn & oats dairy, soy are in so many "gluten free" supplements & items. The very items we paid for from doctors thinking we were helping our body. I was suffering greatly from those products. So please please please reconsider saying rice is relatively safe. I'd give anything to have the years & money back on following that assumption. But I learned the hard way. You both have great influence & knowledge. I admire you both tremendously. I'm just sharing my heart & experience with you hoping to help others who suffer like this. There's better options available for supplements than rice , grains, dairy , soy... I finally found Gluten Free Society that has safe supplements. What a life changer. I'm finally healing because Dr.Peter Osborne saw the dangers & created safe supplements. And has been a warrior fighting to help people who couldn't heal on typically gluten free concepts. Because I'm feeling better, I started schooling for Naturopathic Medicine. I can finally function enough to start living life again. I am grain free, soy free, dairy free & latex food free. I don't eat processed foods or at restaurants at all. 90% organic. I am learning new things daily to overcome & prevent autoimmune attacks. I have been a Chiropractic Assistant for 4 years ( so grateful to be able to work & in a safe environment). It's been a very hard road with very little support. I just don't want others suffering like this. I lost everything in this struggle & fighting to hold weight in this world again. Please consider challenging the current "gluten free" status & bring it up to date. The science is there. We just need warriors to step up. 🙏 Thank you for hearing me. 🙏

I have been researching autoimmune disease and allergies for close to 40 years. The basic problem is that people get sensitive to viruses. Viruses are usually benign however there are 7 different viruses that all of sudden the body starts reacting to one of them "mistakingly ". Reeducating the body to not react to them and also reducing their quantity usually solves the problem .There are some exceptions EG type 1 diabetes In which the pancreas is severely hurt by the disease process before a practitioner discovers the diagnosis.

Thank you, Dr Hyman. This video is very informative. I once also learned from a doctor that one of the most common triggers for autoimmune diseases is infections. Certain infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, and bacterial infections like Streptococcus, can potentially trigger an autoimmune response in genetically susceptible individuals. The infection may cause the immune system to mistakenly attack healthy tissues that resemble the invading pathogen. This process, known as molecular mimicry, is thought to play a role in the development of autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes.

It’s a long story. But similarly mine affects multi systems which is one sign of spike protein damage because it’s causing mitochondrial dysfunction. Three years deep I got so sick this spring I nearly died. Every specialist has no idea how to help. They tested for all the scary neuro diseases…I finally found a functional homeopath who diagnosed it as v a x injury. He immediately started me on a permanent dose of ivermectin every four days. It’s essential as it binds the protein. Then supplements can be helpful on top of it to assist mitochondria. You need someone realllly good. But to give you a start what gave me my life back is ivermectin, supplements (specially Nattokinase, NAC, bromelian) and an AMD salt ion footbath to detox. Expensive but also important. Best of luck. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few months after receiving my first (and last) flu vaccine at age 57. Did a deep dive on my genetic SNPs with my functional doctor and nothing really stood out. Didn’t even show a gluten issue, however, I had been gluten free for years prior to this diagnosis. During the research, found I had polymorphism in my FUT2 gene, a gut gene. Was advised not to take NSAIDs due to possible ulcers. I never had a need to take them so wasn’t a problem. Recently read a study showing the link between the FUT2 gene and type 1 diabetes. But, something had to trigger this gene to go haywire, if this could be related. Just thought it was interesting. Maybe we need more research on this gene?

I’m half way through this very good interview hopefully there will be some solutions to some of these problems we can do ourselves.. I’ve notice with most of your videos you recommend we consult your clinic But that might not an option for the majority of us ..would loves to hear the nuts and bolts Of the Method used and the . You will say You can’t because you need testing and each person is unique etc etc etc Yep Dr hyman

How about the utter frustration of testing positive for multiple ANA antibodies and the rheumatologist says you're perfectly healthy and don't have anything wrong with you.

Yep I’d say it’s become more prevalent due to too many foreign and odd additives in food and also it’s a high stress society and the 2 work together to wreak havoc in our bodies. The only thing I do not like about what Dr H says is about his own health and having had UC, although it’s great he has it in a remission (for now).

Dear dr Mark, there are medicines that causes auto inmune diseses like antibiotics. I suffer from reumathoid arthritis and it was an antibiothic treatment that triggers this illness.

Have you read about leaky gut? Whenever you take antibiotics, you should take probiotics about two hours later.

I was on a string of antibiotics for ear infections. I agree. I believe that is what kicked off my Psoriatic Arthritis. The same as RA, but we also get the crap skin.

I was great until menapause, which I experienced severe symptoms. Because the med groups where I lived, chose to NOT deal with hormones, they let my life implode. Now I have sjogrens, 5 years, and because my blood work is negative, I have been gaslit and cant get any help. My health is going so far downhill. My throat and mouth are so painfully dry I am now starting to choke on my food. It isnt right.

I'm in an ongoing battle w/my doctor(s). I am seropositive for RA yet none of the meds for RA work for me, and I've had anaphalactic from 2 different infusion drugs. My argument is that if NONE of the RA drugs work for me and seem to actually poison me, then I must not actually have RA and it's presenting as a symptom? The last injectable that I reacted to developed a bright red ring around the hives but I've not had a tick bite for years. My assumption is that it's a bacterial infection that's developed a biofilm. Do you think I can get a doctor to treat me for this? - No Way. They hang onto the RA diagnosis and refuse to look left or right. Meanwhile, I'm suffering with severe RA, Raynauds, and Sjodrens that has wiped out half of the glands in my eyes. Wish me luck-

That's dead wrong. I switched to Carnivore diet and it helped immensely. Inflammation is caused by sugar and your body processes carbohydrates as sugar. Any time I "fall off" my Carnivore diet I pay the price with increased pain-

When I was young I was shorter, weighed less and had tighter skin. 60+ years later, None of those are true. What do you think I did wrong? I also used to have more hair. Something is killing me, it seems. My doctor said he thinks I'm just aging. Could that be it?

Dr. Hyman, First and foremost, I love your show. What valuable information. I feel so privileged to learn from you. Would you be able to recommend a Vitamin A product that is easily absorbed/utilized well. Thanks so much!!

Beware some Vit A contain soy, so if like me you are sensitive to soy, avoid the ones containing it.

Does drinking distilled water absorb heavy metals from the body? I know this water filters other water pollutants from the body? I make my own and know that it does not leach minerals from my body. I am fit and healthy and used distilled water for over 20 years
