The torque dip and the way the throttle was mapped on the 1st generation was the deal killer so I went with a Miata. This 2nd generation seems much improved and other reviewers have said numbers wise it’s better than the Miata but the roadster just has better feel. Let’s be grateful that we can still find rear wheel drive manual sports cars that are well balanced and affordable.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2083 күн бұрын
Absolutely agree with all of this! My Miata was a hair more fun (in my opinion) but if I could have only owned one car at the time this would have been the overall better choice!

The Miatas 340lbs cargo limit which includes people, for my wife and I meant zero luggage. The BRZs 700lbs limit was the winner for our weekend getaways.

I get that haha. Weekend trips were short, but oh so fun while they lasted with the Miata. My next toy will definitely be a larger car. It’s way to easy to be driving in the blind sits of trucks and SUVs.

I own a silver 24BRZ premium 6MT. I’ve owned over a dozen sports cars in my lifetime and this car has been more fun than all of them. It’s one of those cars that you look forward to driving every day. I know some will say it needs more horsepower but to be honest it doesn’t. The power to weight ratio is just right and it is a great overall package. I noticed that you did not mention the new sport mode feature for the 6MT for 2025. Did you happen to test sport mode to see if it made any type of difference? I read that it makes a slight throttle mapping adjustment.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 күн бұрын
I did put the car into sport mode for my initial drive, and I think it was still in that mode for the easy launch/shifting 0-60. I didn’t detect much of a difference, definitely not as much as a traditional auto that can also change the shifting tune. But I absolutely agree, these cars are a serious hoot and anyone who doesn’t believe it needs to go out and drive one haha.
@jakef7772 күн бұрын
@ Hey I appreciate the reply. I figured it was going to be something very minor. To be honest I’m actually surprised that they added something like this to an MT car. I can definitely see an automatic having different modes like sport but to me an MT car doesn’t need it. Anyway, thanks a bunch for the video. 👍👍👍. Keep up the great work.

I mean, the manual now has sport mode lol. These cars are just so fun to drive, I’d love to drive at least one trim level a year haha.
@bearclaw51153 күн бұрын
The car did change. They retuned the steering, throttle and suspension (a little more oversteer available in BRZ for '25). Also changed turn signals to regular kind but I actually found I like the one's on the '24. The GR86 gets less aggressive throttle tuning. No one has mentioned much about the changes leading me to conclude that they are subtle.
@AutomotiveAnonymous2082 күн бұрын
Yeah, I’d say they’re subtle. Each time I get in a BRZ/GR86 it just handles better than most other performance cars to begin with. And not being able to legitimately test the extremes of this car on public roads means it’s tough to feel new limits. But each year there’s more numb feeling cars, which makes cars like this stand out more and more whether those changes are there and legitimate or not. 🤪

@robertpeet88805 күн бұрын
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Not only does this car have a high compression ratio for a naturally asperated car, it is also tuned from the factory with aggressive cam and spark timing. It's tuned so aggressively that unless you do cooling mods, or put some ethanol in it during the summer, it will pull timing almost all the time. Even with premium fuel, the engine control computer keeps this engine pulled back from its full potential. Based on research found in the forums, it takes between 15% to 20% of ethanol blend to keep this engine "all in".
