Great review. We’ve had the Esprit Alpine model for about 3 months now and it’s one of the best cars we’ve owned. We actually preferred the look of this compared with the Iconic. The light seats wouldn’t have stayed that way with two children. It is a well thought out car. I agree that the door handles are annoying when they don’t auto pop out 🙄 The range is fantastic and the performance is plenty good enough for a medium sized family SUV. We definitely made the right choice.

We took delivery of our’s last weekend and, in general, very pleased with it - it’s certainly better looking than most of its competitors. The only annoying feature for me is the Jean-Michel Jarre VSP at low speed. It’s great as a novelty for a few days but the novelty factor is wearing thin and it’s really starting to get on my nerves, especially when it’s pretty much on permanently when one is in ‘crawl mode’ (e.g. M25 traffic holdups). OK, I know it’s so pedestrians can hear it coming, but it only operates at low speed. We also have a FIAT 600E and, to be honest, IMHO it’s better for short hops around town and country lanes - you can ‘throw it around’ more easily than the Renault (but then it’s smaller so not surprising). I see the Scenic as a more of a car for longer journeys on main roads and motorways with passengers than driving in busy towns.

I’ve never seen the point of front storage, I’d rather the put all the heating and aircon in there and give me a bigger cabin, it always seems really awkward having to go under the bonnet for stuff, you’d never put shopping in there. Love the scenic.

Frunk/Froot. YES!! Is is absolutely used. And IMO ALL EVs should have one. There is simply no excuse for not having one if car is designed as “ground up” EV. Type 2 cables and other stuff in mine. Often has to be used in the rain so is wet and dirty after use. You DO NOT want to faff lifting a boot floor which already has stuff in it or put the cable back in its case. Do not give EV manufacturers a free pass on this. It is one of the differentiating factors between an ICE and EV. The latter does not have an engine so should be used for a small amount of storage. Shame on companies like Renault & BMW producing huge EVs with huge bonnets and no frunks! Even though the tiny i3 had one😃

Good detailed review, thanks Tish. You are spot on about the shoulder room in the back. As this shares a platform with the Nissan Ariya, I cannot understand why Renault chose to make the Megane and Scenic so narrow. A great car for families of 4 with not too much big stuff to transport - which seems daft for such a family oriented car

I do use the frunk of my Tesla. It is a great space for utilities like charging cable, safety gear, white number plates, and basic tools for flat tyres, etc. It really frees up the back for actual storage and keeps things accessible when the back is abused during family trips. But having said that, it will be going out and replaced by the Scenic in a few weeks. I love my Tesla and wouldn't blink on a decision to have one again, but my business doesn't allow them anymore (European cars only). Happy with your videos Tish, always good to see them. My beef is with the car makers. Another SUV/cross over?!?!?!?!SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!?!?!?! We only have two hundred to choose from already. They not drive as well, steer as well, brake as well, handle as well, make people seasick, so why build them. Ah yes the "Nissan Qashqai" effect. What is the Nissan Qashqai effect I hear you ask. Nissan Exec "Our cars are not selling." Employee "Because they are crap." Nissan Exec "Well yes, but we need to sell them anyway." Employee "What if we jack it up, add some extra plastic, then add £10k to the price tag. We can call it the CASHCOW!" Nissan Exec "Perfect, just one small adjustment, call it the QASHQAI." For crying out loud, can we please have some more lightweight, smaller, efficient five seater cars. Things that will actually save the planet. The reason EV sales are flattening, most do not want this fat crap. Sorry, car companies are 100% NOT listening to the customer, they never have. They do feedback and focus groups, but then adjust the results to match their wants and aims. That is why we have some shockingly bad cars, and cars like the new Capri and Panda that miss the publics wants by a country mile. Plus in this day and age, who can afford the £36k+ price tag or want to be lumbered with the HP or lease costs associated with such a fat asking figure and predicted depreciation. There needs to be a massive tax on this absurdity. If the car cannot do better than five miles per kW, then £1,000 road tax.

They do have some practicality advantages for those with a young family and arguably a higher driving position is favoured by many (and not just a superiority thing!), perhaps subjectively the overall aesthetics… but agree with all the rest you have stated, especially the cost. Generally you have to be a bit stupid to think lease or PCP deals offer you value; but some just want a new car for an affordable monthly fee… even if they are losing thousands in the long run- it’s their money I say…

You say that front storage is not important and that under the boot is a good place to store your charging cables. I disagree and in my Tesla Model 3 LR I keep my cables and extra screen wash fluid because, especially on a road trip, I don’t want to remove luggage every time I need to charge my car. I love Renault cars, currently on my 6th one (Megane hatch petrol), never had an issue with them and they've been reliable. So I'm a Renault fan boy? Not any more. As far as I can see, Renault's designers came up with the Captur, thought "this is what everyone wants, a SUV" and then decided to retire. So they took that design and just hit the "ENLARGE" button on their computer and hey presto, we got the Megane e-tech...enlarge...the Scenic...enlarge...the Austral.....enlarge....the Rafael. Oh and they decided they should all be EV's too. So now I'm stuck what to replace my Megane hatch with as I hate SUV's and the EV con job is coming to a crashing halt here in Ireland where sales of EV's are down 42% in the past 12 months and just 1,000 EVs have been sold in 2024 compared to 100,000 petrol and diesel cars.
@sharonec54194 ай бұрын
The Rafale yes that is the correct way to spell it, not how you spelt it. It is not an SUV it's a Fastback like the Peugeot 4008. Also both the Austral and the Rafale are nit EVs unfortunately. The statistics released by SIMI (who should know) show that EV sales have collapsed and sales of ICE cars are at 100,000 for the first 7 months of the year, compared to 1,000 for EVs. The purchasers of EVs are crying into their empty bank accounts realising they have bought a rapidly depreciating box of batteries, with abysmal range, long charging time and cannot offload them as car dealers do not want them as trade ins. They are the FACTS! I know three former EV drivers who got rid of their Duracell runabouts and have gone back to ICE cars. But hey, you go and live life in la la land😆
