In the early 2000s, the VAG concern began a smooth transition from distributed injection to direct injection, and all this on “downsizing” engines. In general, first in August 2001, German engineers switched to a direct injection 1.6-liter 16-valve engine (BAD, EA113 family). But already at the beginning of 2002 introduced new direct injection engines. The first to debut was a 1.4 TSI (AXU) turbo engine with 86 hp. at Polo. A year later, at the beginning of 2003, a 1.6 FSI (BAG) 115 hp engine appeared on the Touran. At the end of 2003, a rare aspirated 1.4 FSI (BKG, BLN) debuted on the Golf 5.
In this video, we show and discuss the problems of the Volkswagen 1.6 FSI (BAG) engine, which has an aluminum block, a timing chain and a compression ratio of 12: 1.
