Does anyone notices Toph's face? her first time hearing/feeling Aang in the avatar state. she's in utter shock and in my opinion terrified. Sokka is too. he sold that "Get out of here! Run!". All the avatars voices at one time in pure anger and pain. Katara being the MVP and keeping the group together. 💚 I love this show and its attention to detail

This episode is an amazing Katara episode. I dare you to re-watch this and see all these events through Katara's eyes and not get teary-eyed. She's the one keeping everyone together the whole episode. Toph can't see and can't see by feeling through the sand. Sokka and Momo were bother tripping. Aang was emotionally compromised. By the end of the episode, Katara has worked so tirelessly the whole time just trying to keep everyone sane that she automatically knows what she has to do to comfort her friend. The last shot of them hugging with the tears coming from Aang's eyes gets me every time because you couldn't tell that he's crying when he was in the Avatar State. Also, you talked over the "It's the quenchiest!" line and that made me sad.

Totally agree and ALSO she had to take all that yelling from Aang saying she is doing nothing and had to see how furious he looked at her. The scene where Aang killed that Buzzard-Wasp was the moment I really knew where his state of mind was so when the sandbenders finally showed up, I knew shit was about to go down for them. One of my favorite moments of this episode was when Aang basically went ape-shit on the sandbenders. I also just really loved how you could hear the utter disbelief and anger in Aang's voice at Appa being muzzled. It made what happened next all the more shocking and epic. I mean, that menacing voice that came out of Aang's mouth? That literally sent chills down my body! And the music at the end didn't help too...it was just so beautiful and sad. One of the most emotional soundtracks I've heard in the show thus far. I could feel everything that Aang was feeling up to that moment: anger, loss, and deep sadness. I think if it weren't for the Sokka and Zuko/Iroh scenes, this episode would've been a lot darker and depressing than it was.

Katara really showed her worth this episode.When I first watched this episode I finally understood: it makes so much sense for her to have the healing ability (which I previously thought was kind of a cliche), because it fits her nurturing, flexible personality that kept the group alive in the desert, it does not really have anything to do with strength, since other powerful benders did not have it. All the abilities are connected to the characters, it is so awesome.

@Jenya March Well I hate to break it to you, but if you really look at the episode, The Southern Raiders is not only a pretty good example of why Zutara wouldn't work, but why Kataang works far better. Sure, Zuko and Katara are the two main characters in the episode and they go on the journey together, but who's the one that Katara listens to in the end? That would be Aang. Who's the one that does nothing as Katara slowly gives into her anger and hatred, almost losing herself in the process? That would be Zuko. You even have at the end of the episode Zuko admit that Aang was right about what Katara needed, showing he understood Katara's pain and what would help her more than Zuko did.

+Marcus Hutchingson It's not just Appa being of the Air Nation I don't think. Every Avatar has their own, well, kinda "Spirit Animal" I guess is the closest I can come to describing it, with whom they have a bond as if they are a part of themselves in another body. We saw that with Roku and his Dragon already to an extent, and we saw hints of it with Aang when he got mad at Toph for even *suggesting* Appa might be the cause of Azula and her gang being able to follow them in _The Chase_, but this Episode truly shows you just how deep the connection really is. Now, don't get me wrong: Aang would be angry when *any* of his friends would get kidnapped, but Appa is the only one for which he'd go into the Avatar State.

I love how this show doesn't go straight for the action route, it takes in the emotion and morality of the characters instead to create better character development, its beautiful

This is the halfway point of the show. There's 30 episodes before "The Desert," and 30 episodes after it. You are now officially halfway done with the series :/

This episode always got me with Aang... Aang being angry, sad and Terrified for loosing Appa hurts, and at the end with he is in Avatar State it always scares me, and when Katara calms him and we see Aang crying like that... omg! (T-T)

Been putting off studying for finals by refreshing all day for this! Here we go!

I love the scene where Katara calms Aang just with a hug, because that's what Aang needed the most at that moment. Katara understands the feeling of losing someone you love, so, she just didn't needed to say anything. It's a powerful scene that could be easily been misunderstood with "the love interest that can calm down the protagonist", but it is much more, it's the empathy and grief of losing someone that has been there all your life.

Yes, i love that moment. It show how angry and sad aang when lost his appa. Appa is important friend to remine his people. That pain is enought to push him turn in Avatar state.

Aang going into the Avatar State in this episode is one of my favorite moments. His fury is so... real.
@somerandomnerd14758 жыл бұрын
Aw man, the skipped the mushroom scene. This is both one of the funniest, and the saddest episodes in the series. One of my favorites. That avatar state alone is enough to make this one of the best episodes, but we also have the funniest thing in the series when Sokka is on cactus juice, we get some foreshadowing of the white lotus, we see Katara's strength both physically and mentally, it really captures Aang's grief really well, seeing how Appa is no just his life-long friend, but also the only thing he has left of the airbenders, everyone else he ever knew and loved are gone, and Appa is pretty much the only thing he has left of his past life. It also really manages to capture the hopelessness of the situation. And the animation is this episode is one of the best the series has to offer, i mean, the animation was always amazing, but particularly in this episode there's just something about the animation that also really captures the hopelessness of the situation. Just a great episode.

For u who don't know The order of White lotus actually exists,in 14th century China The order of White lotus rebel against Yeung Dynasty which was founded by the Mongols Which pave the way for the Ming Dynasty to push Mongols out of China,and China finally ruled by Chinese people again So is this hints that Fire nation are inspired by Mongols?
