Fire Kingdoms being islands, have many Cities and cultures like mesoamerican like sun warriors, the south east asians ones, etc. Earth Kingdom is also very big, and theres Cities with clearer Korean inspiration and Japanese ones. Fun fact: Out of all the Avatars in the timeline we know of, Aang is by far the most successful and objectively best Avatar in recorded history. Every other Avatar in the reincarnation line inadvertently made absolutely horrible decisions that dominoed into a catastrophic event to their future. Yangchen was very on hands with her duties as Avatar, even forsaking her Airbender oath to do what must be done. Only to inadvertently ignore the spirit world and cause problems for her successor, Kuruk. Kuruk was the direct opposite of Yangchen (directly her fault btw). As he was too focused on the spirit world (and if I remember correctly got his girlfriend's face stolen by Ku the Face Stealer) and so ignored the mortal world's problems. Which then led to Kyoshi's time which is.... questionable to say the least. She was an air nomad immigrant and once her avatar powers manifest really just tried to do the least she could. When the Earth King started being tyrannical, she offered to make a secret police task force in exchange for him to stop being mean. This works, for some reason, which led to the Dai Li being formed (personally trained by the Avatar). Then, came a conqueror which she did NOTHING to stop until it reached her small town, after which point, instead of facing him and his army head-on, decided to separate the entire landmass from the mainland and made it Kyoshi Island. She literally did nothing and then ran away. Girl can't even airbend properly without her fans. Then comes Roku, which in all honesty really wasn't that bad. His only bad trait was his slight bias towards the Fire Nation and so, never saw Sozen's betrayal coming even if it would be obvious from an outsiders' perspective. Thus leading to the near extinction of dragons, the industrialization and declaration of war from the Fire Nation, which led to the genocide of the Air Nomads, countless Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe fatalities, and probably many more atrocities. Aang's crime was being overwhelmed from the responsibility of being Avatar (keep in mind, he was 10 at the time), ran away with Appa, got hit with a goddamn tsunami and trapped in an iceberg for 100 years. After he got released, he then proceeded to wing the entire Avatar journey that usually takes years to fully go through, end the pointless war started by Sozen, solved a few spirit world issues and a lot mortal world problems along the way, before stabilizing the entire world and made absolutely zero mistakes that would cost his future reincarnation any trouble. He's by far the best Avatar to date. His only sin was constantly ruining that one cabbage merchant's day everytime they crossed paths

Aang had to sacrifice Yui to the Outer Gods to stop the threat! Half the background characters went insane and tore their eyeballs screaming: "YA! YA! SHUB-NIGGURAT". Editors had to censor half of the action because it was too blasphemously graphic and unholy. The event went to history as "The Cut of 87" for the average number of cuts per frame. Afterwards the Occult Commission of Animators Association of America had to issue over thirty new rules, known as Avatar Amendment. Crippled morale over the fact the supposed keeper of balance was gone from the world forever + technological disparity that would only be equaled during the show's time + the sheer disunity of the Fire Nation's enemies + The fact that the whole "Phoenix Empire" agenda was Ozai's and Ozai alone's plan, one he was defeated and unbended, that plan pretty much dies and Zuko leads his nation in a more peaceful path, it wasn't a military defeat, they simply ended the war. That 12 yo was the afformentioned keeper of balance, who no one could ever match in power.

In the beginning of the series Iroh was perfectly fine with the Fire Nation's goals so his complete betrayal makes little sense. And the whole Fire Phoenix skit didnt make any sense. The firebenders could have gone that route on the South tribe at any time but they didnt, they just didnt want total annihilation of any nation after the avatar was gone. And the Earth kingdom was practically already theirs. The whole thing was just created to make a setup for the final battle and to raise the stakes a little bit. If Ozai had stayed in the capital and reinforced Ba Sing Se (still makes little sense that 4 people took the entire city in a day, Iroh failed to do that in months) then Aang would have never been able to reach him. The largest assault the three nations could organize relied on firebenders losing their powers and it failed the second they regained them. The world was already theirs at the end, they just needed a way to end the series and to make the good guys win.

@@iandavidvillaloboswong5180 Iroh was established as a staunch opponent of Ozai's plans for Fire supremacy in the world, one of the first episodes's plots surround Iroh losing one of his white lotus tiles, as in foreshadowing to his membership in a supernational secret society whose mission is global peace and balance. Iroh is a developed character, he starts as a famed General (though we later learn he was always a kindred spirit who even claimed to slay the last dragon to forever protect their kind, in secret), who shamed himself in military defeat and lost his son in war. The screentime we see initially of him is just Uncle looking after his misguided nephew, making sure he doesn't do anything reckless in his exile. Yes, the way the plot went at the end was really extreme, but I don't see how it is out of character. Sure, if the show simple went on with the eclipse fading away and the fire nation out of the blue decides to burn the entire Earth kingdom it would be weird. But we must remember Sozin's comet. It gave fire benders unprecedented power, and Ozai was a really ambitious and ruthless man. Coupled with the fact that he severely underestimates the avatar for being a 12 year old boy, it only makes sense that he exploited this clear advantage and decided to proclaim world domination, using the limited power of the comet to do what his grandfather did to the airbenders. The 4 nations were a design for balance, in the show there are only 3, he sought to make that 1. Why show restraint when you are given what is basically unlimited power? Your fantasies become achievable, and the world is yours to shape to your liking, given what you mentioned, that the Earth kingdom was basically already beat. As for the South Water tribe, you saw it. It's insignificant and would never pose a threat to Fire Nation dominion compared to the vast Earth Kingdom which actively rebelled against their colonial rule, Ozai wanted to bring a brutal end to that, permanently. Yes, the whole thing was created to drive the plot into a climax, but it's a story, that's to be expected. The story is about the avatar, from book 1 we knew Aang would triumph. And to me, they handled it pretty well.

​@@iandavidvillaloboswong5180 Well yea it was pretty much the only things still indepandant was the Northern Water tribe the southern Tribes Remnants, Earth Kingdom land so far from the front they couldnt care less about the war and Omashu because Bumi is a one man army who retook his entire city in a matter of minutes. Honestly the White Lotus shouldve just came out in the open a long time ago (the moment Iroh joined the White Lotus really), it wouldve given a path for firebenders who had enough of the war to switch side safely instead of being killed by Earth Kingdom just in case, each of their leaders are great generals, one man armies by themselves so they can easily deal with the technological differance. They just targetted Ba Sing Se which is an isolated Fortress occupied by the fire nation filled with so many refugees that so long as the rest of the fire nation fell their supplies would be cut off anyways and the Dai Li certainly wouldnt stick with them against the rest.

The avatar is meant to have an active stance on human politics to keep peace (be it internal or external) and balance. The moment he vanished, the fire nation sought to pretty much erradicate all other benders

They're not the planets in human form. They're more like a human containig a gestalt consciousness of every other avatar before them. In legend of korra, it is revealed that the avatars contain some kind of primigenial spirit that represents the ying. So they're still normal humans with normal lives like you and I.
