I’m probably about your age, and got into Avenged Sevenfold about 7-8 years ago. I love these guys! I recommend checking out Afterlife, not because it’s their best (I like it, but they have a lot of different sounds), but because there are some visual tie-ins with this video. Just fyi, this song is from the album by the same name, which was their first release after the death of their original drummer, and founding member, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. That’s what the drum kit at the end was about.

Actually the "Nightmare" is that their drummer died right before this album was finished. So that is why the drum set is left empty in the video. Jimmy "The Rev", who was their drummer brought a lot of depth to their songs and music and after his death you can absolutely hear the change. The last song he did right before he died is "Fiction" (one you should check out), and its is basically him saying Goodbye as he knew he wasn't long for this world. However Their older stuff is much heavier, "Chapter 4", "Unholy Confessions", or an all time fav of "Little Piece of Heaven".

The album Nightmare pretty much is about the aftermath of their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan's death. If you do a deep dive in this, the songs Save me, So Far Away, and Fiction tell more about it. "Fiction" was by the way his goodbye to his friends, and you can hear Jimmy sing in that one. Jimmy was a very talented guy, with a great sense of humor. That can be heard in the song "A Little Piece of Heaven".

A7x live performances: rock am ring 2006, Live in the LBC, rock am ring 2011, pinkpop 2014; in my opinion anything after 2014-15 his voice was having trouble, even canceling concerts in 2018.. so honestly, you pick a live concert from anything of those, pick a song, and you should be good. Everyone’s go to is live at the lbc, critical acclaim, afterlife, beast and the harlot .. if the sound mix wasn’t so bad, rock am ring 2011 would be the best vocal performance, god hates us being his best performance vocally in my opinion
