One of things I really liked about Hikaru no Go was that both MLs actually had to work really hard, fight for their dreams and had go through intense training to achieve the status of being the best Go players. Born with superpowers, miraculous Go players.....? Nope. Thanks for the spot on review AvenueX!

I can relate... I actually feel annoyed if in a drama the actor/actress, physically, doesn't match the role. For example, if in the story she is a physically unattractive girl who often receives insults from other characters, but is played by a super beautiful actress... makes me think, if a face like that is ugly, am I a monster? And vice versa when an actor plays a character that makes girls jaw-dropping when they see him, even though he's..., handsome... but please, not THAT handsome... I can only sigh For me, the most important in a drama and movie are script-writing and directing. I give up this one too... everything is just ridiculously super weird

It always prevent me from immersing in the story when they either can't take their own storyline seriously or the actors are distracting from the plot itself with too much personality.

Indeed! Before Hikaru No Go, I didn't know a lot about Go, I just thought it is just another game. But after watching the great drama of Chu Ying and Shi Guang last year, I started studying and practicing it, now I play Baduk almost everyday and like it a lot. It gives me even more enjoyment than chess or sudoku since in Go there are far more possibilities and permutations and combinations, which makes it far more interesting for me.

I swear, the only type of actors I can tolerate to have a scene with “holy sunlight shining on his perfect face through the window glass” is those ridiculously handsome, god-tier work-of-art visuals, such as Yang Yang and Tony Leung (2046 - if you know, you know). For all the rest of the human-tier handsome actors, I cannot stand those super awkward scenes that over-emphasis on their good look. The director just needs to chill, like, we get it. We get that he’s good-looking. Just move on please😂

Oh God when u mentioned yang yang I immediately remembered that scene in love o2o when he was swimming and got out of the pool only for the camera to go slow motion and just focus on his PERFECT abs and hot body 😂😂😂 or when one of the leads (mostly male lead) just go into a shower scene randomly (this usually happens in episode 1 just to let the viewers know how HOT he is 😂💔)

You lasted longer than me. I was anticipating this drama because it had the background of GO. (Big fan of Hikaru no go too!). Anyways, about 10 mins in, I decided not to watch it anymore. Couldn't take the incompetent female arguing with her boss. I mean, who talks to one's boss like that? It's either ugly arrogance or pure stupidity. Her characterisation was such a turn-off, I could not bother to watch further.

It seems to me that an awful lot of Chinese dramas lately have started out with premises that COULD work if done well. Girl meets dragon? Princess seeks revenge on her father’s killer? Go player develops a relationship with the journalist who was sent to cover him? All could have been great with the right approach - and they all ended up “rant-worthy.”

I recommend this drama for those who like to watch sweet dramas where the FL and ML talks through their problems. I would give this drama a chance and watch more episodes because there is actual struggle and the dark side of obsession in this drama. There are definitely flaws in this drama and very troopy with the childhood drama. He doesn’t have the class grass looks and I never really got over his role in love 020 but this drama changed my mind. His smile and the way he looks and acts with the FL changed my mind and the main leads acting is actually pretty good. It’s like I was watching real people interacting. This is after watching the entire drama. I did skip a lot of the older sister’s arc though.

I also watched 2 episode of this drama and gave up. One thing i was really annoyed about FL is the lack of professionalism. Ok let's say she sent him to the Police Station and then realised later, why was she running away. Why didn't she stand her ground and stayed professional i just don't get it. Yay! Auntie A is back with another rant video! I do have an issue with the current trend in dramas lately.....ALL OF THEM ARE THE SAME THING WITH DIFFERENT ACTORS!! Lately I haven't found anything to really catch my interest ever since WoH finished and although I have older titles stored in my catalogue for later watching, I still find myself looking for something new every now and then. C-dramas are starting to lose my interest, as their stories are almost the same things over and over again. Romance. Maybe something criminally dramatic like SCI, Detective L and I know there are plenty of others, office romance, fantasy romance, emotional dramas....OVERALL ROMANCE!!!

To be honest I don't understand why it seems so difficult to write a logical and normal story about Go (I don't even ask for a good one) for all those Chinese writers, just look at those legendary Go players, from聂卫平 to 古力, their own stories are very dramatic, and if someone wants to tell a story about 2 rivals,常昊 and 李昌镐 would be the perfect reference. And the story of 柯洁 would be super animated and funny!!

I'm on episode 8 and actually liking this drama. Not the first one I have watched with unrealistic scenes. But we can get realism on the news. Sometimes just want a light fluffy escapism romance drama to forget all the bad. And tropes and cliches don't bother me. Different strokes for different folks as the saying goes. Update: Now on ep 23 and loving it! Some of the funniest scenes ever and the lead romance going good. Glad I gave it a chance.
