Your comment on second last tip needs to be re assessed. In AMT, at stop no need to shift gear to N but same is good to do in regular Automatic and DSG.
@zubairqureshi49584 жыл бұрын
Dude me being an engineer can tell you that you were wrong on two points. 1st, resting your hand on gear handle cannot have any adverse effect because its fly by wire. 2. Breaking at signals while in drive doesn't effect break pedals or shoes, because your car is not moving at all, the friction applied by your break pads is static friction and since wheels are now stationary, there wont be any wear and tear. Break pads or shoes rub off only when we apply the break and car remains moving until it stops. Once it stops, there is no rub off. 3. If you bring your car in neutral each time you stop, it may bring only marginal improvement in your fuel mileage, but shifting gears in automatic , whether AMT or CVT, from drive to neutral , does take a toll on your gear assembly. And over time, it will reduce life and efficiency of your gear assembly. Also the AMT software that has built in crawl mechanism, will become less focussed on crawl, as it is a type of self learning, it reads your behavior and overtime make changes, if you dont use breaks and bring it to neutral, you are shutting off the crawl and overtime the software will think that you dont make use of crawl.

For your information AMT uses hall effect sensors so is not directly linked to gearbox mechanically while via wires. This is called drive by wire. So resting your hand on the lever won't affect this car. However resting the hand on lever affects manual transmission cars.

hi dude, trust me you have given the best advice i really liked the way you explained all things pointwise - it is superb....keep it up bro.

Three more points I would like to add : 1. Since you do not have clutch (engine break) in AMT, you can not stop the vehicle all of a sudden. If you are in 5th gear and you press the break, vehicle will down shift the gears, this may take some time. So try to speed the vehicle in your control speed only. Also get AMT cars only with ABS so that it may give you further more help to stop your vehicle during emergency. 2. In drive mode, press accelerator very smoothly in incremental order, so that gear can upshift smoothly. If you press accelerator hard, it will decrease fuel efficiency and that will not help because gear upshift will take time. 3. Switch off AC when vehicle is on 1st gear. Let it come to 3rd gear then switch on the AC. Also while driving on the uphills, switch off the AC, it will create pressure on the gears.

1st point is either incorrect or not understood well by me. What abt emergency breaking. Any car is designed to come to a hault when breaks applied. For 3rd point shutting off AC uphill is understood but who shuts it off in 1st gear and why. I feel your over all comments are very Orthodox. Moreover goes without saying any car, even manual will consume more fuel if accelerator is given hard.

@@ankitgelra the AMT is for relaxed driving. If you like quick acceleration and don't have patience then go for manual. Driving the AMT in hills can be troublesome. You seem to be driving a Maruti D'zire AMT. From a driver’s point of view, at cruising speed on a long highway, manual gearshift, CVT and AMT (AGS) are all the same as no gearshift is involved for long periods and the driver fatigue due to gearshifts is minimal. The relative fuel consumption & braking distance is another issue. AMT/AGS as implemented by Maruti has a serious limitation. Though the design saves the driver from gearshift fatigue on leveled roads by automatically shifting gears in start-stop traffic; come a little slope of a flyover or a hump, and all the convenience vanishes and vehicle becomes difficult to control. The vehicle starts to roll in the direction of slope irrespective of engaged drive. Try coming out of a mall basement parking when there is a vehicle behind you and one ahead. The slopes are steeper there. Use of hand brake becomes imperative and requires muscle, agility, practice, experience and alertness. They do not include this ‘anti-roll’ feature as part of their design, so for drivers looking for convenience and peace of mind combined with safety & control this may not be the right choice.

@nrvhmrz62923 жыл бұрын
YES. Keeping in neutral will reduce the load on engine & transmission. It eventually saves fuel, wear & tear and the risk of accidental creeping. But, keeping the car in neutral will have the risk of car free wheeling. Pressing the break prevents that. Or, you can engage parking brake.
