Hey guys, for a bit of fun today I decided to take the Myers-Briggs personality test with you. If you aren't a fan of personality tests or think there's no merit to them, that's totally fine. It's just for fun. But, as we all have the avoidant part of our personality in common, I would be super interested to hear your results. :)

I've always tested as INFP. I haven't been diagnosed with avoidance or ADHD or any of those things. But I believe I have avoidant PD and/or social anxiety. I've also dealt with depression off and on throughout my life. It's not easy is it? I'm really quite friendly, but an invite to a party almost sends me into an anxiety attack. Right now I'm even contemplating telling the person having the party that I'm going to be out of the country that week. 😐 I wish I was joking.

Thank you 😊❤️ From my understanding, sounds like you probably just relaxed a little on your routine-rigidness. The P (vs J) usually means you’re a little more “go with the flow.” 😎 Which is honestly kinda my goal loool

@@anxious_and_avoidant Yeah that makes a lot of sense! There is definitely a sweet spot somewhere between rigidity and flexibility. I've been trying to add some structure to my life recently as I think too much going with the flow took me over some waterfalls, through a waste treatment plant, and out to sea.

INTJ-T I’ve gotten another before, I think it’s the F, because I always agonize over these questions. So many of them, it either depends on the circumstances, and also I don’t know how to describe my emotions or how they work? I used to say that I was pretty good under pressure. Now I realize that I was just masking and disassociating super hard and discounting the internal chaos while “handling” things seemingly fine
@anxious_and_avoidant

So true, some of the questions are quite vague and that makes them hard to answer - plus, our personality, or our *perception* (or understanding) of our personality, can change over time. If any of the traits are borderline, they could easily flip by just changing an answer or two. But, I don’t think I’ve gotten a single response on this video that wasn’t introverted and turbulent, which is maybe obvious but still a fun trend to witness lol.

Just started the video so I’m not sure if you mention this later, but have you never taken the MBTI test before?! I’ve always been obsessed with personality tests, ever since I was a child and learned of their existence! I feel like they’ve just always appealed to my intensely curious, introspective self, so I have always found them to be endlessly fascinating. I’ll have to take the test you’ve linked again even though I know I’ve taken it before, but who knows, maybe I’ll get a different result! I pretty much consistently get INFP or INFP-T though, so I doubt I’ll score differently in any kind of meaningful way. If you enjoy (or at least can tolerate) personality tests, I’d recommend taking the enneagram test too! That one is also extremely interesting and has a fairly extensive information basis to support it (maybe not empirically, but the theory itself has a wealth of information it is supported by, much like the MBTI/cognitive function stacking). I usually get type 4 or 4w5 when I take the enneagram, btw… you should check it out when you can 😊

This was the closest free test I could find to the MBTI I think? 🤔 Idk lol BUTTTTTTT FELLOW 4w5 HERE!! I actually prefer the enneagram I just figured more people would already know about this one! It seems like most of us with AvPD are 9s or 4s, so interesting!! Also it’s so 4 of us to love personality tests because it gives us a sense of identity. I’m an INFJ, 4w5, hufflepuff, lol I love all of it. 😅

(In my best Gomer Pyle voice): "Well surprise! surprise!"- except Gomer's clueless, and as another (provisional) INFJ-t I'm not a bit surprised at your results, and wouldn't be for anyone with AvPD or SPD. There seems to be a high correlation with INFJs and to a degree INFPs with these and similar less severe adaptations, and for logical reasons. There is general acceptance within Jungian thought (from which MBTI derives) that we are born with some amount of predisposition toward certain cognitive function traits, and in INFJs the Dominant Ni function in combination with the Ti tertiary(child) function creates an "ideosyncratic" thinking style which predisposes us to being misunderstood/invalidated by the majority (sensory-dominant types) and therefore more likely to experience more severe attachment and social trauma, reinforcing our already withdrawn tendencies. If attachment traumas and early conditioning were not a factor and we were encouraged and supported in developing all our cognitive functions without parental and societal bias, there would likely be very little distinction to base psychological type on (no Jungian "shadow" / Objective Personality "ignored" traits). It seems logical and I see some evidence that each "type" seems to correlate with a tendency toward certain neuroses or "disorders" due to trauma (core wounds/ attachment style) but I haven't seen published data to prove that observation. I haven't taken this test yet; I have taken another which yielded INFJ, but I don't have the percentages. I personally don't place much value on the tests as the questions are very subjective and contextual and often use descriptive adjectives that are open to wide interpretation- for me as a schizoid/avoidant, often none of the answers or potentially several equally apply, so I'm left with the impression that I could test as other types and I most likely could be casually identified by others as ISTP or INTJ. I prefer to approach psychological type from the study of the cognitive functions, as that seems to offer a more useful understanding of personality and cognitive type. I've only fairly recently begun to study typing and haven't even really looked at enneagram yet, so still lots to learn. What seems very strange (and confusing/frustrating) to me is that with Fe as our second function and our primary extroverting function one would think that social environments would be my natural element-one would most certainly be WRONG in my case. Instead, I can be concerned with and primarily motivated by others' feelings, but in a way that causes sadistic self-criticism, isolation, and self-detrimental counterdependent AND codependent tendencies depending on circumstance and context. On one hand I recognize that I want and need (some) social relations while I simultaneously dread and loathe socializing- talk about a double bind! You do raise my curiosity with this as it relates to trait percentages, so if I can remember to remind my inattentive brain to take the test I will do so and post again if I find something interesting- thanks Maxine, another good topic and well-done presentation.

I get a different result every time (except for introversion which is always 90+%). When i was a teenager i tested as intp, but i've gotten infp, isfp and this time i got isfj. Everything else is always 50-60% so it makes sense that it changes i guess. I'm feeling very called out by the addition of turbulent though lol.

I got Virtuoso ISTP-T... I have taken this test before and that's not what I remember. Though I scored 100% introverted this time around which is dead on. Last time I took the test I believe I got INFJ or INFP. I guess I'm inconsistent about choosing the same answer years apart from test to test.

Your hypothesis is correct for my results as well, as I got 88% turbulent along with getting 100% introverted. And I'm sure a even a slight change in personality can effect how one might choose to answer on the test. Though I don't feel like my personality has changed at all in the last 10 or so years, it would probably be hard to notice any differences unless it was a pretty major shift.

You and I have quite a lot in common, suffering from anxiety, avoidance, and (symptoms that point to) inattentive adhd. For me I just want to fade out when I’m distress, and therefore am prone to dissociation, narcotizing, numbing and outright delusion. So I work hard now, in a zen way, on focusing on what’s really real and really true, and not letting delusion in - whether that’s intrusive thought or catastrophizing or willful ignorance of my own faults. Hence my flop from INFP to INTP. (I wouldn’t leave you hanging without my results 😅) You might want to give the enneagram a try. Enneagram Institute has a good online test. I’m a 9w1 sp/sx 954 tri-type for reference. I think you’ll like the enneagram 😇
@anxious_and_avoidant
@anxious_and_avoidant 6 ай бұрын
I love the enneagram but I’ve noticed many AvPD-ers are 9s and I’m actually a solid 4w5. (Editing to add I just noticed your “tri-type” which I hadn’t heard of before - were similar lol)😅 It’s like I want to express myself and have this unique identity so bad and that’s what’s so frustrating about having the disorder is that I’m constantly suffocating that part of myself so as not to draw too much attention. But I have a ton of 9 qualities too. Reading about the enneagram really helped me understand myself better, I love it.

@@anxious_and_avoidant yes so true. I like all kinds of “methods of self-inquiry” - western esotericism, Advaita Vedanta, Kabbalah, so many and so helpful! Yes, 9 5 and 4 are “withdrawing” types according to the Hornevian groupings, based on the excellent depth psychology work of Karen Horney. I’m ALMOST a 5. I hope you have, or get, The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Riso & Hudson. Great book. You’re very likeable, based on your videos. @@anxious_and_avoidant No, but I think it might have been with more questions, and for the second and the last letter I was kind of in the middle (I think this might be while many like the big five better, as it describes where you are at the normal distribution scale.) I remember when I took the test five years ago, I reflected a bit on it. I think the popular test described ISTP as MacGyver which I kind of liked, but is probably not accurate for me as I very much like to bring along the right(/much) gear for adventures (and get a bit anxious if I can't - I like planning and checking up on your last comment I found that both ISTP, INTP, and IFTJ were mentioned in some forums🙂). MacGyver is probably the least nervous/anxious TV show hero I can think of, prepared for everything.
