In 1997 I was in the military and working 3 months in the mess crew and I listened to No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom religiously. In 1998, I went to see No Doubt in Spokane, WA on Tragic Kingdom tour. On this song Gwen climbed the scaffolds and during the song break down she had the crowd repeat back what she was saying. She had all the girls say "F" you I'm a girl! And after that she had all the men say I'm Just a Girl and then she laughed at us! Classic!

Tragic kingdom is the 4th biggest selling punk album of all time. You cant overstate how big No Doubt was in the 90s. When 3rd wave ska started becoming popular, bands like them, Sublime, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones BLEW UP. They were everywhere. Gwen became a certified superstar, oh, and then to make it even crazier, she married Gavin Rossdale from Bush. Talk about a 90s power couple. Oh, that reminds me, do more Bush lol

I actually kinda get Gwen and Blake...she did the whole rocker thing, married Gavin Rossdale, evolved as a person and musically. I think she met Blake at the perfect moment, where she was looking for someone who offered stability, while still understanding the lifestyle of a musician. And while Blake may be country, he's also got a personality which imo compliments hers...

This was my go to song in high school! She spoke my language and my thoughts. I remember my parents not letting me drive home from a football game, a play, or a date at night! But the guy I was with he could follow me home to make sure I got home safely! I remember playing and screaming this song especially that line I don’t wanna be a girl because they won’t let me drive late at night! God, such memories! You really need to react on female Friday or another time to Gwen Stefani coming on stage at Blake Shelton concert and singing don’t speak to his audience! Just a few years ago! Fire! This band is everything to me. Tragic Kingdom came out when I was in high school and even though I knew of them before then, it was everywhere. Though they previously released two albums before TK, this was when people took notice. Being from SoCal, about 20-25 minutes from Anaheim, the fact that I lived so close to them growing up is crazy for me too. Now she's living with Blake near you guys in Oklahoma, just too cool. Having just watched them on KZbin when they performed at Coachella this year, they are still rocking it. Gwen, she's like a machine doing her thing on stage at 54 years old but running around as if she's 34 years old. Which was about how old she was when I saw them in concert with Garbage and The Distillers in Long Beach. Freaking amazing band. I love them so much. I'd suggest songs but this comment is long enough and there's too many songs I would request. But, don't know if you guys have heard of Eve but she and Gwen did a couple of cool duets with each other. Eve's "Let Me Blow Your Mind" and Gwen's "Rich Girl" may be worth checking out if you haven't yet. ✌😎

If there's one thing I'm proud to say is that I was stationed in Germany at the high time of the 90s and the 90s music scene. When it came to festivals, we attended as many as we could. We'd roll 40-100 deep and have our campsite that was just one big FTX for us. Grillin, Chillin, Rockin and Rollin, and after the shows, let the party begin. We would go see the stages of the bands we wanted to see in shifts, for security to guard the campsite. It was fuggin amazing. I hope you can as I have be able to attend the summer festivals both here in the states and OCONUS. We first saw No Doubt during the Tragic Kingdom tour at Rock am Ring, the next year, we saw them in the states when we were home on leave. Great stage show and Tony is one of the best bass players out there. With that said, Amber. I've got a great list of female artists, bands with female members, and full on female bands for you. These are all rock / metal acts. So if you ever want to do a full on heavy rock/metal Female Friday, I'm glad to give you this list from my female showcased shows. There's some amazing talent out there and I don't want you to miss it. I hope this list, puts a smile on your face. - EB aka SGT Rock Licking Cream - Sevendust (ft. She gets all the public acclaim, however, there's another superstar in the form of the bass player, Tony Kamal. I'm not dissing Gwen at all. Just to let you know, the genre that No Doubt is in, actually it's a subgenre, but it's called Skai music. This genre's heyday is pretty much in the 90's and a little bit in the early 2000's. The album it's from, Tragic Kingdom, is their biggest album with back to back hits released off it. I pretty much wore it out, on both cassette and CD. Lol

Man, this brings back so many memories. I had a band as a teen and the other guitarist girlfriend was a huge Gwen fan. So we learned to play this song for her, so she could sing her heart out.

The rage and sarcasm in the lyrics are so on point even today. Women are still fighting to be recognized as fully autonomous individuals with their own rights, not just little pretty petite things that need to be protected and controlled and told what they can and can't do with their lives and bodies.

Gwen and Blake were BOTH going through the dissolution of their respective marriages at EXACTLY the same time they were BOTH on The Voice. It was a serendipitous shared experience. UNDERNEATH IT ALL is the sweetest Reggae tinged ballad worth a reaction - so is her duet with Stray Cat's Brian Setzer called YOU'RE THE BOSS

Same album. Not as well known but Different People and the title track, Tragic Kingdom are both great songs. Honestly it’s one of few albums you can listen to and not need to skip anything. Cool story. I got to go see them randomly with free tickets in the 90’s. Something that gets overlooked. The band was really good. Even live. Way better than I was expecting. Gwen did this bit while they played. Like a short, silent play with a red rose. They did a Beatles medley. It was a great show!! Another song to check out from her early days. She did a song with Bradley Nowell from Sublime called I Saw Red. It’s great, fun, fast n like ska/punk. Also worth a listen ☺️

I totally agree . Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani will always be The most polar dynamic I've ever seen... Especially when you remember that she was married to Gavin Rosedale... lead singer of "Bush".. I guess she simply doesn't have one "type"... good for her.. 😉

Female friday suggestion: Garbage - "Push it" It's a must! Shirley Manson is one of the most badass female singers ever. Also, they were pretty influental. Their music was a totaly different vibe and I think you will love it 🤘 Other equaly good or maybe even better songs from this band: -"I think I'm paranoid" -"No. 1 crush" -"When I grow up" -"Milk" -"Special" These are just some of the bangers from them. There are many others aswell.

Best thing about the music video is that they said they used it to illiterate the differnces between how she and the rest of the band was treated while on tour; as in she was treated as a 1st class citizen and the rest od the band was treated as 3rd country nationals 😂
