I am sure that Lori is grateful for this improvement! Going to a laundromat was never one of my favorite things to do when at times we had to do it. Nothing like doing it at home. And I don't mean by scrub board either! It can be a lot of work! This is going to make life so much easier and will leave more time and energy for other things! Good job done. Who cares about the beauty of the water lines as long as it does its job. Now its on to other projects and the garden. Where is our Frankie and Tildy? Miss seeing the fur babies who are a great joy in our lives. My best to you and Lori and the fur babies also. Stay well during these very uncertain times as we head into a new nirmal way of living. This should be teaching people a great deal if they are paying attention and listening. 🐺🐺🐺🐺👍👍👍👍🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊.

With that little pump you can pump water for your whole house. We do, we have a 125 gallon tank and have a toilet, bath tub,sink, kitchen sink, and hot water heater and a washing machine that little pump gets the water too. We have used this this system over six years and have replaced the pump three times. You can have that too!!!☺️☺️☺️☺️ It's nice to be able to give my dogs a bath when ever I want.

If you want hot water. You could use a propane on demand water heater from an old camper . When I lived in Alaska, we did remote jobs with the construction company I worked for . All the guys took their showers in my camper , consecutively every evening and we never ran out of hot water . This was in the late 80s and early 90s . My camper was built in 1981 . Sometimes we did laundry in the spare little cement mixer we had with us . That was especially good for the really dirty work clothes that you wouldn’t want to wash in your regular washer because of all the grease and grime .
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm4 жыл бұрын
Hey Boss - My wife and I have been long time watchers but this is my first post. If I may suggest - I would install a 40-50 gallon short propane water heater as your main reservoir for your laundry room - You can turn on the propane heater about 1/2 to 1 hour before doing laundry - The only difference in your system design would be that you would turn the propane water heater to "Pilot or Off" when draining your hot water tank (to avoid overheating the emptying tank) - Then you just manually refill the hot water tank with water when all done - turn off the propane until the next time you use it - This way you can use either hot or cold water when doing your laundry - This design would be similar to our family's off-grid cabin we had back in the early 60's that was only accessible by boat - We had a gravity fed water system with a propane water heater, propane stove, propane refrigerator and propane lights - We had 2 - 100 lb propane tanks that we would swap out as needed bringing the other over by boat after filling it - Just a suggestion my friend - I know it would be a little more of an initial investment but "I think" it would be better for washing clothes - Thanks for your videos - You are an inspiration to all of us who follow you - Take care & God Bless....

I was thinking along those same lines. Good input sir.
@farnorthhomested8444 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing. how much propane would be required? how many gallons of water does a washer use per load? a solar water heater would be cool. no pun intended.
@ClearCreekCabinMiniFarm4 жыл бұрын
farnorthhomested - The newer washing machines can use as little as 17 gallons per load - our 100 gallon propane tanks would last for weeks with 7 people taking showers; cooking; lights; refrigerator & stove going.

Next up, solar hot water... an old/dead water heater, additional insulating help from bubble foil, some big PEX lines painted black atop the roof of the shed, a solar panel/battery/inverter set up to circulate the water from the roof to the tank, back to the roof to stay hot until needed. Time for a trip to the mall for parts. LOL

Hey boss for my entire 5 years off grid I used a cheap 5th hand creda front loader from the netherlands and used to fill with a hose pipe thru the detergent box - for every rinse wash re rinse, hey it was a proper chore, but we had clean clothes! Because it was a small washer could run it just off a suitcase generator, then the hinge broke on the front loading door door totally detached oh that was cured with a concreted bloke and various shoes wedged to kerp it in place, you have serious washer luxury! All the best, jim

Sweet! Many older washers came with a suds-saver option. The used washwater drained into a stationary tub. The rinse water went out, thru another hose, and down the drain. On load #2 the pump sucked the once-used-but-still-good soapy water, up and into the washer for the second batch. We started with the least dirty load first, just like we did with the wringer washers. It saved water and soap. Seems like a person could prolly cob-up a thing like that some kinda way. Thanks Song

I'm older than you but share your enthusiasm for living more simply and in tune with the rhythms of nature. Since I lost my wonderful husband I've become a nomad in my truck camper with my pup and two senior cats. The first thing I did was give away the microwave oven and the generator. Don't use 'em, don't need 'em. It's amazing how little we actually need and how satisfying life can be with less. Soon I'll be installing a tiny wood stove inside to reduce the amount of propane needed. It would be lovely to have a bit of land to have a small homestead. Keeping my eyes peeled. Love your channel.

you mentioned in a previous video that you were planning to collect rain water from the gutter. Good idea. I had a simular issue with ice and snow messing up the gutter in the winter. Really didn't enjoy fixing it every spring. Can't see you enjoying having to remove and put back the gutter. Two points, don;t use plastic gutters they shatter in the cold. Two, place the gutter so it is lower than the roof line. So snow and ice slides over the gutter. Re did my gutter last year and it's still perfect the spring. Good proof of concept for a washing machine.

Hi Boss. Love it. We just love seeing your ideas come to life and where you get your parts. Here is a challenge for you. Rain water is not always abundant as you rely on mother nature. A water saving idea would be to re-use the rinse water as 95% of the time you are throwing good water away. Recycle it for your next wash load. We have done this in the past at our cabin and you start out with the least dirty clothes and save the undies till last. We put in less fabric softener so it does not over power the soap in the next load. As always we enjoy your videos and we wish you Lori and the kiddos all the best. Stay frugal it's the only way to live. Take care!

I just want to thank you for your videos. I think they are my favorite homestead vids. We too are off grid in northwest Montana and our only regret is that we didn’t do it sooner. Just watched your laundry day vid and wanted to share. Our setup is very similar but we wanted to conserve as much water as possible so we bought a new “high tech” washer. The rv pump didn’t deliver enough pressure and the washer would throw an error and dump all the water in it. Sold that one and bought an old reliable. Thanks again, loving life, Don Shanklin

Use 3/8 to 1/2 inch copper pipe placed over pilot light for freezer. Thermosiphon into water storage tank. Use water storage tank as winter room heat storage. As you transition to generator, flatten copper pipe and insert between cooling fins on generator. Steal heat from lots of sources. Another idea is to use 4 or 6 inch abs pipe and place in front of a window. A 4 inch pipe, 10 feet long holds and heats 6.5 gallons weighing 55-60 pounds. To have enough for a wash, you'll be safe with more than 40 gallons. So 70 feet of pipe should be adequate. Build a rack mounted to a wall that gets hours of sunlight. Now that you have a green house , integrate the laundry room and the greenhouse. Recycle grey water for plants. Get the sun to heat the water in summer, construct a copper coil system for the woodstove flue for winter.

We're in North West Arkansas and I love the AC. I'm old now. If the power goes out we won't be able to pump gas so getting to town my be an all day deal. Hi again BOSS 10 hours later and the powers that be finally notified me! Better late then never! Anyway leave it to you to come up with such a truly helpful system for the off griders. I had to smile at its simplicity and it really works lol! This has to be one of your best ideas ever! So good to see you as always. The virus has put off so many medical tests and procedures these days. Getting concerned as many of my regular things are adding up and getting behind. Like you a pending S that would have been done already and been recovered from. It's a yucky thought it still is out there to get done! But in the meantime spring is springing and bet you're enjoying every minute! Things in the greenhouse must be amazing by now. This will hopefully be an awesome summer for you two and the kiddos. My Taffee is so smart especially for her age. A very careful listener and her retention is quite something. God just knew this last one had to be a goodie! Nicknames include Smartypants and Kissyface which pretty much says it all lol! Hope you're feeling ok and hanging in with control of that darn pain. My thoughts and prayers are yours every night and sometimes during the day too if a trigger brings you to mind. Keep hanging in there my friend. It all will be as it's supposed to. God has the last Word and it will be Good!!! Thx as always and God bless...

I had a dog named Taffee when i was a kid so that just put a smile on me. Thank you for that :-)) We have been trying to enjoy our "spring time" but believe it or not, the forecast says approx a foot of snow is on the way :-o Our plants are outgrowing their pots and we're running out of room out there. Going to re-pot some stuff today. Never a dull moment up here my friend. Thank you for your prayers. You are always in my thoughts and prayers as well. God Bless ;-)

Hey Boss, glad to see you and Laurie are well. This one made me smile as you have made a copy of the system I have in my boat! 😃 100 gallon tank, 12v pump (prices over here are crazy... £84!) Feeds kitchen and bathroom sinks and the hot water system as well as the shower. All off of 12v! Unless I pop the little (made in China 😕) plastic twin tub on the bank I feed the drain outlet into the shower tray and a "gulper" pump pumps it out. Like you I had to use a laundrette for a while. Space concerns means I still do for my duvet or large throw as the machine has just enough space for my kingsize covers. Rinse is manual but the little spinner is fantastic. Can't use hot water though (thats how I ruined my first one! 😊) as it's plastic and distorts! Been four weeks I didn't leave the boat until I went to a small shop yesterday! My oldest son did a shop for his "old Dad" as I have been diagnosed with asthma! (The continual cough was getting me some REAL funny looks when this pandemic started! 😁) I now have an old dingy that I am using as a floating garden! Lots of stuff coming up. (Confession I cheated bought £15 of baby plants from a garden centre! 😉 boy do they grow up fast!) Putting my seeds in for other crops now! All in containers including potatos Slowly working my way towards a life I call "Boatsteading"! Keep on keeping on my friend!
