If I remember correctly, Lara was professional and personal turmoil, so the crowd asked the pianist to help them sing this song to her. Normally the lyrics of the chorus are "I love you", but the crowd instead changed this to 'We love you', as to show her that they still loved her and were behind her.

She is completely astonished by the amount of love the audience is showing. They raised her, she was living trouble times personally. The song is: "Je t'aime" meaning "I love you" and they were singing her: "on t'aime", which means "We love you". It was a unique and intense moment, not so many artists can live even if they were to live a hundred years. You cannot arrange for that many people to sing together. She is special. I am from Quebec too, and I just discovered her a few years ago. For me, she is the greatest. Dimash's mentor... that says a lot.

The wonderful Lara. One of the best singers ever and a beautiful heart. I've watched this several times and despite knowing what's coming - each time tear up. The back story, as I understand it, is that Lara was going through a very rough patch in her personal life at the time and also professionally there had been some very spiteful critics which affected her deeply. So - this huge 'vote of confidence' in her artistry and her fans determination to express their immense love for her is even more moving. The whole of this concert is spectacular. Enjoy.

When I was still young I thought the American Divas are the only top Divas in the world. But with the advent of Social media and internet (KZbin channel), like you said, you begin to see the pool of talents on a much wider scale as in globally. Then I was able to realize that the Vocal trinity is more like paper Divas (magnified because of marketing/publicity and commercialization). They are Divas in their own right, and they are more popular and successful in sales globally because of such. At the same time , I was overwhelmed by the European Divas (Lara Fabian (Belgian/France/Canadian) and Monica Naranjo (Spain/Latin America), they are the real deal. They are the most complete in their resume /package of what a Diva should be) namely; 1) Voice- vocal prowess and technique 2) Performance- stand alone and be able to wow the crowd. 3) songwriting skills- the use of several languages and poetry 4) Artistry- manner of delivery and presentation. Their edge may have something to do with the cultural environment they lived in. (Europe- Center of Arts and Culture), thus they are able to integrate arts and music together in their works and presentation. They are literally the vocal music goddesses.

In a way we have been exposed to such an amount of Transatlantik pop - from the end of WWII onwards - that we are used to take any decent talent from over there and put star-status upon them. I won`t say they`re not good at what they do (vocal trinity and a few more), but they have, as you say, all the advantage of the major entertainment companies. Yes, one has to look actively for all that great old - world - talent that exists, because it is not shoved upon you as American and British pop is. I too have come to appreciate the singers you name, for the same reasons. There are also great singers in Russia and the countries of the ex- USSR that get little exposure in the West ( Gwerdziteli, Gagarina , Lorak, Pugacheva, Karol, etc) The music world is bigger than we might have thought back then. Samantha, when I first heard this I needed a plate below my eyes to catch all my tears. I actually still tear up ever time I hear it. The story you mentioned was true and her fans were so wonderful. Lara is very alive and well today, happily married and living in Montreal. And, you might be interested to know a very young man at the time was deeply influenced by her and the way she sang so emotionally. His name is Dimash! He learned well and they are still good friends today. Most recently, Lara was a judge on France's "The Voice". She was very good. And, I agree with you, she is not good. She is fantastic! She never received the recognition she so rightfully deserved during her prime years. Samantha, I got to know you recently when you reacted to Angelina Jordan. Thank God that is not happening with her. Although she is still only 15 she is beginning to take the world by storm and we can only imagine the joy and love she will continue to bring to each one of us in the years to come. I was there at the concert in 2001. A delegation of fans went to see the pianist and the music director before the show and they asked them if they could start signing that song before she did, and they agreed. We knew she was in a hard period (divorce), and wanted to cheer her up.

I just checked it out... thank you! Amazing performance though I couldn't say it's the best version of this song! A song like this is more than just the singing it's the whole package. I personally like this performance by Lara Fabian when she won the world music award for this song. Apparently they got her name wrong, the genre of the song wrong, they had no idea who she was!
