I was a heavy equipment Cat mechanic from c 1971 until the late '80s. I worked for Alban Tractor in the Sprinfield area of VA. Around '76 the company treated all the mechanics to the ConExpo in Chicago. The largest machines Cat had there were a 988 and a 777 off-highway truck; it had two small pick-up trucks side-by-side in the dump bed. The biggest machine I saw there was a Hough International rubber-tired loader with a 21-yard bucket, powered by twin diesels. There was also an impressive excavator that could dig down to 90', but I can't remember the manufacturer's brand. It was for me an unforgettable experience.

I appreciate the time and effort required to share videos. Thank you for this one featuring excellent technical quality and camera handling. The video lets us see something you don't see everyday. How else would a regular person get the chance to see how this type of logistics is handled? An important item of note for me is the back-up beepers-or lack thereof. The bulldozer is using the much more world friendly type that is slowly finding increasing use. This type is area specific (directly behind the machine) and set to reasoned level. For way too long the world has been subjected to warnings that a vehicle three blocks away is backing up. Note that the truck isn't using a beeper at all. Somehow, everyone lived to see another day. Only the micro sized fork lift is fitted with an old school screamer. I feel better for unloading. Thx. Cheers from Vancouver, BC.

It took two miles to get up too speed of 55, and a mile and a half to slow down! the machine weighed about 165,000 lbs without the arm and scoop bucket. Needless to say, I was nervous!

Darryl Tauffenbach when you haul oversized loads, you are permitted to only operate on certain routes. The state takes into consideration the size of a town, city, traffic, etc, and you will have escorts. In this particular situation, they will have besides a front and back escort, they will also have a state highway patrol leading the escort. Since this is Nevada, they more likely have a less restrictions because of their openness than say a state east of the Mississippi River would have, especially the east coast. I live in Mo., and in this state when driving through one of the bigger cities, I’m not allowed during the rush hour traffic morning or afternoon just for the sake of not having an issue with cars.

@@hidingfromyou4455 True about bridge weights and so on, but damn.. that trailer is adding a helluva lot of weight to the whole package relative to its small load.. its still got about a foot of positive arch, trailer thinks its empty. No idea what route they had to take, but it sorta looks like someone wanted to show off their new heavy haul rig. By comparison, I used to roll off of Kansas City's Holiday sand plant with wet morning loads of 60 tons (reduced to around 45 tons later, same weight as this dozer) using only a tri-axle 34ft Travis full frame end-dump and a International 9400. We where allowed 22,400lb per axle in the "commercial zone", still a little overweight but it handled fine day after day and didnt ride the bump-stops at all or blow bags. Point is.. by any measure that trailer is way way way over-kill aside from some regulatory issue.

Let's start by saying that the j.D. (first video) has made a technical choice that she doesn't like. The loader must be removable with forced and self-locking couplings (like buckets) for the purpose and use the loader only where it is needed and eliminate (as now) weight and fuel consumption to the main tool (I don't know what it's for). I do not understand the basic choice of reversing the tools forward / backward, needless to say that it would take a revolving cabin to follow a safety helmet-work (to avoid the operator's stiff necks) with headphones and microphone connected with the tractor's voice commands and with the wi-fi, radio or LTE network.

That may have the HP of a D9 (nope the D9 has about 110 more HP) but it doesn't have the size, at least to my eyes. The high track D9's I've seen are larger in size than this John Deere and weigh in at 108,000 pounds depending on how it's setup. This John Deere has 350 HP and tips the scale at a lighter 95,000 pounds. All figures come from company production figures. Anyway, when I first saw it my first reaction was that this is more the size of a D8 but after checking what those weigh honestly and weight wise, it's between the D8 and the D9. It is an impressive and good looking machine nonetheless.

Would it not boom down tighter if you chain it down to the trailer FIRST, then raise the trailer?
@woofiny7 жыл бұрын
These hydraulic/mechanical goosenecks shift the deck a whole lot when they're being lifted, we never chain our equipment down until the deck is fully raised because it shifts the load to much you'd just be going back to check all of your binders/ratchets twice.

Does this monster trailer require a second driver? Is there rear steering?

Our 9 axle trailer has no secondary driver. The rear is just controlled using air bags and start turning when they hit a certain amount of pressure in a turn.

Big beast working at the Davenport plant on a Ice machine when a blade out that size came around on the overhead tow line out of the paint booth. Couldn't decide to run, stay put or simple act normal.
