Holy moly, I don't know how I missed this episode. I loved both Christopher Mitchum and Patrick Wayne. Big Jake and Rio Lobo were shown on ABC network TV at least 3 times a year each. In fact, along with The Alamo, Rio Bravo and The Longest Day, all were shown at least 3 times a year each and were the first John Wayne movies I cut my teeth on. Thank you sir for your making this another happy trip down memory lane.

El Dorado has always been my favorite of what I call the “Hawks-Wayne-four amigos trilogy”. I’ve watched it a zillion times since Dad took the family to watch it at the drive in 1967. Big Jake came out during my college years and I’ve watched it almost a zillion times as well. I’m 70 now and this interview is like a family reunion with older cousins. Thank you, Mr. Word!

I laughed so hard at one scene when Bull Harris said: "The first time in two months I've felt like doing something for you, now you don't want me to do it". Sheriff J. P. Harrah : "Was there something wrong with that or is it just my hangover?" Then the puzzled look on Duke's face was priceless.

Both great actors and a treasure for the profession. Chris Mitchum’s performances in BIG JAKE and RIO LOBO are reason enough to watch those two movies over and over again. And Patrick Wayne I have enjoyed watching him playing parts from the QUIET MAN through BIG JAKE with his dad… I especially liked him in MCCINTOCK and THE SEARCHERS. I’m thankful for both of them, in their contribution to the cinema!

What a fun interview, Rob! I enjoy watching "Big Jake." It is such a fun movie. I have watched it several times and recently bought the DVD (with 13 other John Wayne movies). John Wayne was such a great actor and star. Patrick Wayne was very good too. I have the movies that Chris Mitchum was in too. I was a fan of his father Robert Mitchum too. I saw the earlier interview with Chris Mitchum where he talked of being blackballed or blacklisted for appearing in movies with John Wayne and having to go overseas to act. They mentioned so many great John Wayne movies (even those that Robert Carradine doesn't remember watching). I followed Patrick Wayne a little bit, but I am a fan of Tom Beringer and enjoyed "Rustler's Rhapsody." It is a fun movie. Patrick Wayne delivers the best line on the movie with "I told you I am a lawyer." 😄😀👍👍 I recently watched "Gone Are the Days" with Tom Beringer, Lance Hendrickson, and Steve Railsback and they tease one another about growing and looking old. I watched "Hostiles" about the same time. I am sorry that your channel ceased doing movies for a while. It has caused your program to fall from most watched to fourth place recently. I can get my western fix from other sources, but it will lack your great introductions and comments. Hope and pray that you are well! Best wishes!👍👍

Just watched Rio Bravo last night, and watched El Dorado a couple of weeks back. Saw Rio Lobo a few months ago. I love all 3 of these, and have a hard time choosing a favorite. They are all great. I can't get enough of pat wayne, i was always a big fan. It's true that in the movies they made together many times john wayne 's character was pretty harsh on patrick's character. Lastly his role in rustler's rhapsody was short but very very funny and with flashy cow boy attire.

I'm one that has seen every one of John Wayne's movies, and have almost all of them in collection on DVD. Yet I'm still collecting more. It's my plan to have a collection of all of John Wayne's movies, even when he wasn't the star in them. And yes I've seen them so I know there's many more people have seen these movies and this one especially. Big Jake was one of my favorites oh, just one because all of John Wayne's movies are my favorite. And The Shootist was one of the hardest movies for me to watch. When your Dad's are JOHN WAYNE and ROBER MITCHUM, it must be very challenging for PAT and CHRIS to make their mark in the acting field, if not impossible... And its not just the fact that their Dad's are true he-man icons, but it's their iconic careers that no actor could ever hope to match... so the only thing left for PAT & CHRIS to do, was to have fun with their careers like they both did! Their Dads were in the proverbial right place at the right time... It was good that PAT & CHRIS became and remained friends, especially when Duke Wayne had a well known public split with Chris after BIG JAKE in June 1972, they were both guesting on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson talking about California's politics and the environment, and he didn't like Chris' liberal stance... Sadly, after multiple attempts over the years by Chris to reconcile their differences, Duke carried the grudge to his grave. The Duke was proven right about so many things, but he had a petty vindictive side to his character that for many has somewhat tarnished his great legendary career and its legacy. It's a credit to both Patrick and Chris, that the grudge never affected their close friendship... and it's real smart that they both decided to never bring up the subject ever again. It's like what insiders used to say about the volatile Sinatra... "With Frank, you forgive a lot" -and for must of us it applies to Duke Wayne as well!

These interviews are classics in the making. Being 66 myself, I have a deep connection to these films like every kid on my block did back then. Young people today don't live in a world were the standards of manhood are on the big screen.

JW throwing that line back at RB was so classic... "And now you understand. Anything goes wrong, anything at all... your fault, my fault, nobody's fault... it won't matter - I'm gonna blow your head off. No matter what else happens, no matter who gets killed, I'm gonna blow your head off." What a great pair to interview together.
