I spent over $1,000 on a Scx24 and it doesn’t have portal axles. It’s really easy to buy expensive parts to put on these trucks. I don’t like cheap parts on my crawlers because they break easier and I would rather spend the money and build a badass truck that will need very little maintenance. And the expensive parts are more than likely heavier than the cheaper parts so a brushless setup is the way to go imo.

Good lookin build Matt, just a heads up I found out the INJORA brass max smasher lower links actually fit the ax24, the link bushings are a little to big to fit but if you pop the bushings out they are pretty much the perfect length, I’m sure you have the skills to find a way to mod the mounting holes to make them work but I threw mine on my ax24 with no bushing and they are sloppy but work great 🤘🏼 might be something you could try out on this build

on 1/10 leaf sprung trucks we use fuel tubing as a "bushing". I wonder if you could use a smaller diameter rubber tubing as a bushing to take up some of the slop.

Really? Dang! I had high hopes for them lol. I bought a set a year or so ago and never installed them. Gave them away to people in need. Ended up with a couple more at some point so I figured I may as well try them lol. That’s usually my result with any cheap servo. That’s why I rarely mess with anything besides the higher end ones anymore.

To help that rear servo for now you can use the nozzle from a can wd-40 and cut a small section off and put it in between the servo and the mount just for now. I do that a lot and it works great. Just make sure it doesn’t put stress on the steering links.

So I purchased one of these and will tune and mod it to make it what it should be, but it's no real value. Kind of cheaply built. This will piss a lot of people off but the features, value and durbilit of the FCX24 is way better. You pretty much have to up grade all the parts! Even the axles would be better from the Fcx...

Iv got the ROP on my build with fcx axles and it seems to struggle with the drag brake. When accelerating from a stop on a steep incline it likes to COG. Iv played with my tuning on the lizard and gotten it better. But it still does it.

Talked my brother into buying the AX24. he isn’t a hands on guy. Looks like it can be modified without spending much money. I want to replace his servos and install a brushless motor on a budget. Will a new ESC be needed? Will he be able to use the Axiel transmitter? Just trying to make it fun, simple and cheap, any suggestions are appreciated

If you go brushless you’ll definitely need a new esc. The stock esc only runs brushed motors. You could add something like the lizard pro to the stock system and basically keep the 4ws on the stock transmitter for him. I just uploaded a video today on how to bypass the stock esc.

Hey matt today I went to hoosier rc hobby plex for winter points series and I got board while my battery charged so me and my dad went up to the hobby shop and they had an AX24 that you could rent so I rented one and took it on thier coarse and the only thing that I had problems with was the servos but for 25 dollars you can get a decent servo. But over all I was impressed for $169.99 that was An ABSOLUTE BEAST

I done the bare minimum I put a little bit of brass on the front two servos and then a brass skid plate torque Beast 50 from mofo in the thing is amazing

Been making the changes you suggested and realized the motor connection is different from ESC. Finally, realized 2 wires for brushed and 3 for brushless. I just made a new mount for the front with some thin metal I had. Placed a new piece of velcro and just velcro the front. The sides stay tucked into the sliders so it holds pretty well.

I would highly recommend the fcx24, portal axles and you use the 2 speed more than you would think , videos on my channel of a few mods.

The fcx24 has way better electronics out of the box. Really don’t need anything. It’s not a “comp style” rig so it don’t have as much flex etc as this. It also don’t have 4ws but does have the two speed. The 2 speed is really nice but also adds a lot of weight with the extra servo etc. So it really depends what kinda truck you want. The fcx is way better out of the box just due to a very nice slow crawl and more powerful servo that actually works.

Chasing house cats is more enjoyable with the ax24 because the steering is way tighter and fcx doesn't like to stop fast without nosing over. But it can be too fast and cause a lot of flip overs if you don't control the throttle. Puppies seem to respond to the fcx because of their louder drivetrain. If you have a lot of laundry laying around the fcx will end up on it's lid a lot because it's top heavy and front heavy out of the box. It does seem less fragile than ax24 though so if you're smashing into furnature and doors you wont be so worried about breaking the fcx as much. Girlfriends don't care for either because it allows you to enjoy yourself without them. You could of course get her one, but then she'd expect you to only play with yours when she's involved.

Proline super Swampers. Kinda depends what look you’re going for on the tires. The new proline Baja Pro X are sweet,ogrc comp pins,swamp kings and Injora 62mm are probably my favs at the moment

I actually really like the stock shocks with the spring installed inside the body. If I was going to swap them out I’d maybe go for the aluminum carismas or the hobbyplus oil filled aluminum shocks for the t Hunter. Those are really good also. I have several sets of shocks ordered (proline,Injora) so I’m waiting for those to show up. I really kinda just prefer the stock shocks though. I don’t really feel like oil filled shocks are absolutely needed on the 1/24s most of the time so I’m good with these being a nice long shock with a smaller body.

I would probably do the mount swap also. I didn’t in the rear and you can see how it sits at an angle after cutting the back out of the stock mount.

I’m still fairly new to the hobby and wasn’t interested in a 4wheel steer until I saw this setup. I could convert my Scx24, TRX4m, or Rock Van. Im thinking TRX4M since it’s my most modified but which would you choose as a platform to convert?

Until a lay down servo mount is readily available for the Trx4m I won’t be doing any custom builds with those axles. I just hate how high that servo sits. Rock van is set up with chassis mounted servo so I’d definitely go scx24 if I was you.

Omg!!! Man you need to try the AGF B13DLM V2!!! Killer Hv servo I stumbled across for around $25 63oz tq on 8.4 so directly powered on a 2s is insane for a 24, at half the price of a reefs/AGF 99oz!! @@2fmrc Not surprising. Without knowing, I'd guess that the bean counters are in charge at Axial. As apposed to Furitek where it seems there's at least a balance between the accounting dept. and the actual RC geeks in R&D. Axial is falling for the big corp. short sighted strategy. That's become common, it seems, with corporate raiders. Buy a company that's doing well but needs help as it's lost or stagnated. Pump in some disingenuous, window dressing strategies to raise hype. Then tank it and reap the tax benefits, just after the big executive bonuses and quiet stock sell cash-ins. Fingers crossed Furitek isn't in the crosshairs next!

Love the 4 wheel steer with the knob! Do you have a video showing that set up? I don't have anything with 4 wheel steer yet, but when I do, that looks an amazing way to do it!

Thanks for the video! Somewhat disagree-Axial made a stock RTR 4WS rig that works well as it is. For $160 they did a solid rig that can use most of the aftermarket parts we already have. Axial needs at least plastic beadlocks and a bigger motor, if they did those two for a very similar price it would be even better.

I just don’t see why hobbyplus can offer a much better esc,motor and servo for $119 and axial feels like they can keep giving us the same garbage but up the price. Yeah it’s 4ws for $160 but anyone with an Scx24 would be way better off just adding rear steer to any scx they already have than getting all these junk electronics for $160 imo.

I really like your build, the wheels/tires look awesome, it looks like it performs really well with the lizard esc and moforc pancake motor. I still don't think I would buy one, I really like my FCX24 and Max Smasher. I feel like for the average consumer if you have to spend that much money to make it a good rig you may as well just buy a Cayman setup. I'm loving the content even though this seems like a disappointing truck out of the box.

Lipstick on a pig! Sorry but having 300+ in a rig that still looks like a dollar store truck is crazy. Hopefully axial learns from this mistake and their next offering is worth buying. This chassis will never make its way into my fleet. Thanks for showing us what the pinnacle of this chassis could be. I applaud your effort to make something cool but I still think there are way better options for a starting platform.

Damn! You’re always coming with the fire with these 24’s!! I knew the little bit of shade you threw when the ax24 came out you would have this thing built right. & yes if any you tuber deserves to get kick downs it’s definitely you! But like you said it’s kinda better to buy them yourself then you can be honest!
