No that would not have happened because they were on different labels. GN'R were with Geffen and Motley Crue was Elektra, if i remember correctly. AFD was a slow-burner but when it hit, it really hit big! The bands teamed up for the tour because it made sense at the time, the Crue hated doing shows with the likes of Whitesnake and preferred having GN'R around. GN'R couldn't get on any big tours and were stuck doing small shows, so it was a win-win for both bands. The falling out was only really between Izzy/Axl and Vince but as I understand it the rest of the band members were ok with each other. Izzy was on heroin at the time and made a mistake. Vince handled it the only way he knew how (rightly or wrongly) and Axl got involved because he didn't know the full story

It just shows Axl's character to be honest. I'm sure he heard at least one time that he could easily beat Vince, yet he failed to show up to his own challenges, while Vince did. To add to that, Axl has had more problems related to his band, merely because they all hate him to this day, while Vince and the Crue are still rocking.

Considering the fact both of them said publicly they wanted to fight, Vince even said he wanted to rent out an arena and have people come see the fight and it still never happened, I think you might be correct.
