There is unfortunately no inspiration. You saw it on the DS and especially the WiiU. It has use cases but the developers have to do lots of extra work to utilize it. So most end up just mirroring, or using it for a map, or some separate mini games. One example of it being used right is in ZombiU (Zombi for WiiU) - the second screen was inventory. When accessing inventory, the main screen switches to a third person view of you accessing your backpack. Meanwhile, you're literally accessing your backpack on the WiiU gamepad screen, while glancing up at the main screen periodically to check for zombies. It was exciting and completely missing from the ported version.

It might still be a bit on the pricey side for a handheld device but given the hardware and performance on it, its getting real close to affordable which was nothing but a pipe dream a couple years ago before the Steam Deck showed up. The market for this kind of handheld is also getting good with a ton of gamers now being adults who grew up playing DS and 3DS and are very nostalgic about their games rather than people like myself who grew up playing the OG Gameboy and the Gameboy Advance.

Or imagine co-op games and being able to see your friend's screen, or just streaming other players screens to the second screen while you play, in an FPS shooter where teamplay is important it would allow you to properly direct each other if you can see what each other is doing, or imagine Mario Kart online multiplayer and having your friends camera feed up so you can talk and interact with each other, so there is even use cases for multiplayer. Most laptops and tablets with similar specs and features cost about the same and in some cases over $1000 and they only have 1 screen. The only real downside is the battery life but that is usually the case when a new device comes out, especially one like this. You can get a full gaming laptop for $650 straight from Lenovo with an actual dedicated graphics card, DDR5 memory, and a 144hz screen. This thing is interesting but you’d have to be insane to think it’s a good deal. It doesn’t even have a graphics card. The bottom screen on this thing probably costs $20 at max as well.

The 45 degree volume button makes complete sense: when you’re holding the controls you use the thumb I change the volume. The thumb naturally moves at a diagonal when you move it up and down. It’s perfect thoughtful design. Think about how when you’re holding and using it

That battery life is disgusting. Makes the Odin 2 look like a beast
@christiangai598111 ай бұрын
In all windows devices battery life is too short, in fact, if someone interest is into retrogaming and not PC games an odin 2 can provide a smooth emulation until wii and your device will be fresh and full of energy.

@@SoulK37 And this device can't play Windows games for more than an hour or two, which is barely more useful. I already own a laptop, the only reason to have a portable like this is for portability, and with that battery life (which will only get worse as you use it) it doesn't have that.

When it comes to Citra and getting both screens to be "fullscreen" on separate monitors it goes as follows: Open and choose a game. After it's launched toggle the separate screens and move the second screen to the second monitor. Close Citra completely. Open it back up and when you choose a game, the screens should start out in separate windows. Move the second window to the second monitor and use the fullscreen hotkey to go fullscreen. Put the main screen's window back in focus by clicking it, use the hotkey for fullscreen. Now both are in full screen. However, not sure how well this will translate to Flip DS, but it should work the same as it's still happening in Windows.

I have a Win Mini which I love, but this is very tempting. Unfortunately, I've been using Linux almost exclusively since Yuzu gets much better performance at lower TDPs, and I suspect other emulators will be the same. The other thing, Sleep is flawless on Linux where windows has too many issues. Either way, I'll stick to my Mini, but not because I don't want one of these! The Mini is fantastic though, so no sacrifice.

@brentwells680211 ай бұрын
This thing is tempting for sure but man that price is really high. The size is really what makes this thing cool but to pay twice the price of the new oled steam deck which is also an emulation beast is a bit too far I think.

Nintendo's dual screen era was unique and always feels awkward being emulated in single screen devices which this seems to cater to. That said, foldable smartphones + controller are also an option for this use if not sticking with the original consoles.

The perfect $200-350 handheld. Which they are selling for $700-$900+
@davidcuellar741411 ай бұрын
That would put it below the cheapest steamdeck brand new. You have unreasonable expectations for a more powerful handheld PC with a second screen built in
@mountain34211 ай бұрын
They need to make an android version of this console.
@davidcuellar741411 ай бұрын
@mountain342 that might be a solution, but it might also be much easier said than done. How many android devices have successfully implemented two screens?
@patron790611 ай бұрын
@@davidcuellar7414 Seems odd to give it all that power. Just prices most people out, those that might use this (which you don't need a monster PC to emulate Wii U or 3ds games). Like, let's make a Hyundai with rims made out of gold?
@davidcuellar741411 ай бұрын
@patron7906 my thought is that a lot of power (and resources from a company) is probably required to make this happen. I mean, otherwise we would have had these companies doing this already. We just recently started getting folding android phones at the absolute highest end, and I don't think it's a coincidence that they require the most amount of CPU power available and the cheapest ones start at around $1000.

Glad I stumbled onto this video. It was good to see another review of this machine. I appreciate how through and well put together this video was. Got me to sub. If the channel name represents the content, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Still not sure if I'll shell out for one of these, but DS/Wii U and other emulation would probably be my main use case.

would much prefer a way less powerful device. I'd really only want this for original DS games. That battery life is a shame. Hopefully this inspires some other companies to look into dual screens, I expect it is difficult to do though.

Though this does look a bit rough and prototype-y, I'm really glad to see someone trying this concept. I hope it does well enough for them to be able to comfortably iterate and release a second generation. I think that would be very neat to see. Unfortunately, I personally don't feel particularly compelled to have a full Windows PC in my hands, so I'd have to concede that I'm not really the target audience.

Your talking high end hardware. 2hrs battery life is amazing. Your comment is not accurate, it's probably the best you can do under manufacturing circumstances. What I think is ridiculous is the 120hz display on a DS sized handheld. Why go beyond 60Hz? Why use HD resolution? It doesn't make sense design wise.
