Congratulations! A few housekeeping notes: Clean & Pack the wheel bearing hubs with new grease and get a new spare tire. The engine needs an annual service, change the lower unit grease, new water pump, new ignition key with kill switch, etc. Just the standard stuff to create some content with... 🍺🎣

Love those 25 merc 2 strokes. They stopped making them for usa in 2005 because of epa. I can have the crankshaft and pistons out in about 30 minutes. If the cylinders are bad youll have to have a shop machine them and insert cylinder sleeves because they are nickosil coated.

I'm pretty sure the motor leaned out from low fuel or dirty fuel filter. Change the fuel and the Fuel filter if you want that outboard to last. Thats was not normal for it to speed up on its own at idle unless it's starving for fuel and leans out. Good luck boys, it'll be fine, lol.
