@@VocalCitizen Just to give you background. Ayreon is a Prog Metal Project written and produced by Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He write concept albums many SF based and has a Rolodex with several hundred of the worlds top Metal Singers and Musicians on who he can call. Whenever possible he puts on live shows in Holland which can have anything up to 19 singers on the stage. You should check out the recorded official version of The day The World Breaks Down followed by the live version of Everybody Dies. Just to give you a flavour.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Ayreon, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after the iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on KZbin. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered KZbin in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

This song is from the album Into the Electric Castle. Eight people from different timelines end up in a world where time and space do not play a role. A strange voice instructs them to reach and discover the Electric Castle from within. The album opens with a voice from the sky announcing to the eight characters (the Highlander, the Hippie, the Futureman, the Indian, the Egyptian, the Barbarian, the Knight, and the Roman) that they have been taken to the "cranial vistas of psychogenesis," a mysterious non-place in a non-time. The voice commands the eight to seek out and enter the Electric Castle, and warns that they will be challenged with puzzles and tests of mettle.

Floor appears because she sang this part back in 2003 together with her sis Irene in Arjen's band Star One. Anneke sings this part in the Electric Castle for she plays and sings the Egyptian there. She is the godmother of female fronted metal in the Netherlands, Marcela has parts in every concert of Ayreon, usually in the backing vocal group. She is a master of harmonies.

I'm biased cause I love Floor, but your reaction to her is so relatable and it's what some of us fans get really excited about to be experience that second hand again. Somehow I missed this reaction. So cool that Arjen himself commented. I know you've already watched GLS by Nightwish and that the NW Army has visited. A couple other trios to listen to... Epica did a song with Simone, Charlotte Wessels and Myrkur called Sirens (of Blood and Water). On Beste Zangers, there was a performance of a group of 3 sisters called Og3ne doing a song called Sing. It's one of the best trios I've ever heard. Of course Warning.. it's published by Avatros.

I know people have told you about Floor and Nightwish and her covers, but she also released a whole solo album last year, with beautiful tracks like My Paragon, Fire, Me without You and Hope all of which can be found on Floor’s own channel. For a little more heavier work apart from Nightwish I recommend from her Amsterdam live playlist Wolf and Dog, Face Your Demons and Storm in a Glass.

Anneke van Giersbergen is the "matriarch" of Dutch female metal singers and Floor's idol. Marcela Bovio is from Mexico but now lives in the Netherlands. She very often works together with Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon). And Floor Jansen is one of the best and most versatile singers on this planet (by the way my absolute favourite female singer); she is the leadsinger of the Finnish Symphonic Metal band Nightwish. She is an empath and is able to let you feel the emotions in a song very deeply. I often cry (of joy) when listening to her singing, her beautiful warm and at the same time strong voice. She can sing all from opera to Death Metal growls. If you like Celtic: Listen to Nightwish "My Walden" (here their British multi-instrumentalist and singer Troy Donockley starts the song in Welsh); there are some more Nightwish songs with a Celtic vibe especially because of Troy (he plays the Uillean Pipes and several other Irish instruments).

Both Ayreon and Nightwish are extremely varied and no two songs are particularly similar. Best step next is to listen to The official studio version of The Day That The World Breaks Down (you'll find it on Arjen Anthony Lucassen's youtube channel. There is a recent live version of it which you will want to watch afterwards, but you'll learn so much more about the Ayreon universe from the studio version. Presume you have already listened to Caravanseri by Loreena from her Nights At The Alhambra DVD. If you haven't yet watched it, it is a must.

Since you like Celtic music, you need to check out some of the Celtic folk metal by Nightwish. Floor Jansen (the tall one in black) is their lead singer. "My Walden" is a song inspired by the 19th century transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau's "Walden". Other songs with a Celtic vibe: "Alpenglow", "The Islander", "Elvenpath and Elvenjig" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (fantasy Celtic), "Élan", "I Want My Tears Back" in Wacken Open Air 2013. There are others, but that's a start. Be aware that Nightwish had three singers so depending on which version is selected, you could be hearing Anette or Tarja. Not a bad thing, just something to know.

Another person already suggested Ghost Love Score from Nightwish, the 2013 Wacken version. I fully agree. But you could also listen to her "Alone" cover she recorded at home during Covid. Or all the stuff she did in the "beste zangers" shows. She is the most versatile female singer in this part of the universe. The lady next to her is Anneke van Giersbergen. Nightwish have a number of songs where they use traditional Irish instruments played by Troy, and Celtic melodies. Most people in the Netherlands didn't know Dutch Floor Jansen in 2019 when she participated in the Dutch show "Beste Zangers". So maybe interesting to watch her first performance in this show, singing "Das Vilja Lied" by the German composer Franz von Léhar, blowing away the audience.
