Some info about most of the SNK PS2 collections: - The reason most of them share the same UI was because they were released under the "NeoGeo Online Collection" series of compilations in Japan. The American releases dropped the line and released them as if they were standalone games. - As the japanese name implies, they were collections of the games with online features, but they were removed in the overseas versions. - ALL of the games featured in these collections are ports, not emulation. This allowed SNK to add online as well as some extra content, like the Neo Geo CD arranged soundtracks, and other minor features. Sadly the sound effects were downgraded for some reason. - The input delay isn't a thing in these collections, so the problem is probably your TV setup.

Thanks for the mention when you use our footage, feel free to get in contact as we are always happy to let other channels use our footage. Dee is a really interesting character to play as, he was meant to be the main character in the next Darkstalkers game, sadly we are still waiting on that one. Also should mention as a bit of trivia, but the Japanese version of the Alpha Anthology, Zero Fighter's Generation has a few extra versions not found on the western one like the original Japanese release of Alpha 2. It's not widely mentioned but that collection has some interesting dipswitch extras and also give Cody an extra punch move not seen in any other version. That collection is far superior to the 15th Anni one which unfortunately had a number of emulation issues.

I was game reviewer during the PS2/GameCube era. I was lucky enough to have SNK as one of the studios who always sent me their titles. So I got to have all those awesome Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters Orochi Saga, World Heroes, Samurai Showdown, and Arcade Classics compilations, on top of the standalone KOFs, NGBC, and the Metal Slug Anthology. PS2 also had Capcom Classics, Street Fighter Alpha Anthology and Anniversary Collection, the last of which was my introduction to 3rd Strike. And that's aside from the other compilations, like Tekken 5, Activision and Atari Anthologies, Intellivison Lives, Mega Man Anniversary/X Collection, Sega Classics/Genesis Collection, Sonic Mega/Gems, Namco, Midway, Taito... God, I miss those days... Edit: I've played an ungodly amount of hours on SF 30th Anniversary on PC, but only because it's the only current platform I have access to. They are indeed straight rips of the arcade versions, complete with all the glitches, but otherwise pathetically barebones. I was so disappointed when I found out it didn't have any of the cool additional game modes like in the previous collections. I'm one of the few left on there that still plays 3rd Strike ranked. The definite version of 3rd Strike is still Online Edition, just for the sheer variety of color palettes, system options, and superior netcode and lobby designs. I'm really happy with Capcom Fighting Collection, mainly because I missed out on Darkstalkers and Red Earth back in the day. The new Samurai Shodown Collection is excellent as well. I also picked up the TMNT Collection for the sake of nostalgia when it was on sale, but those fighting games are _way_ more janky than I remember.

It's nice to listen to somebody just nerd out about this sorta stuff. But I was surprised you didn't include Tekken Hybrid, even if I'm not sure it counts as a collective. It has Tekken Tag HD, the movie Tekken Blood Vengeance, and a demo of Tag 2 with exclusive costumes based on the movie Sidenote: wasn't the imperfect emulation of Primal Rage due to some weird copy protection that cut out features? Then again i wouldn't doubt the collection had subpar emulation in general

I would love a collection of Mortal Kombat 1 through 4, but at this point think it's very unlikely. Even the 3D era would be fun. You offhandedly mentioned it because Killer Instinct Gold is in it, which justifies me in talking about it; Rare Replay is literally PEAK game collection 30 games, most of which are either integral to gaming history or are classics, including even the company’s relative low points. A bevy of dev interviews, behind the scenes looks, looks at unreleased projects and unused music. Rewind and save state systems for the older, less polished games so they aren’t stupid hard. Highly detailed menus that celebrate the games they represent. An entire list of milestones/achievements that actually encourages you to try out and complete each and every one of the games to reward you with said bonus content. I 100%ed Rare Replay, and I don’t regret a second of it. That should be what companies strive for. Something that doesn’t just make me feel like “oh cool I’m playing some old games”, but something that makes me feel like I’m walking through history as it happens.

The PS2 era was a super frustrating time to get these collections. Some, like Alpha Anthology went above and beyond, like putting in Alpha 3 upper, and Gem fighter. Then you have Midway collection, which I played endlessly, and for no apparent reason, they used MK3 over UMK3. It never appeared in other collections at the time, so it was maddening that the game which in my opinion fixed every issue of the prior game was left out. And while I get that the SNK collections had bad UI & emulation issues, at least you guys got to play them! At least where I am in Europe, I could never find them, and my only exposure to KOF was Neowave, which I would say was 2004's only glorified mugen compilation sold in stores, but Capcom Fighting Jam came out later.

Interesting fact: Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is the ONLY release that has the CPS2 version of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, which is considered the most "pristine" version of this game. The PS1 version is the most butchered one (if you exclude the GBA version), with fewer animation frames, worse visual effects and poor audio quality. The Naomi/Dreamcast version has pixel scalling problems, some characters' animation frames are missing (eg. T.Hawk's backwards walk animation) and has the worst input lag. The Sega Saturn version is almost arcade perfect. The PSP version is based on the Dreamcast version, which carries the same problems. It is unclear why Capcom decided to port the game to the Naomi arcade boards instead of releasing to their proprietary CPS2 boards.
@KenMasters. Жыл бұрын
I heard Capcom had to port SFA3 over to the Sega NAOMI board because the CPS2 isn’t powerful enough to run that complete version, so they had to remove Guile, T. Hawk, Fei Long and Dee Jay from the roster.

Since the first Archives had four Fatal Fury games, they could have added Dominated Mind, Wild Ambition, or Mark of the Wolves to the second Archives, thus giving that four games as well. 3:39 I've got this game on Saturn. It was a Japan exclusive on the Saturn, and it's called Capcom Generations vol. 5 there. I think the US got some of the other Capcom Generations games on the PlayStation, but not vol.5.
@Bloodreign1 Жыл бұрын
The US didn't get any Capcom Generation outside of what you saw with Street Fighter Collection 2, that is until Capcom Classics Collection Volume 1, where all 5 were thrown onto one compilation, with some emulated arcade games, like Final Fight and Forgotten Worlds thrown in the mix.

@@Bloodreign1 good to know. I live in Asia, so not so familiar with American games. It seems Japanese put up with less on a "collection" than Americans do.

How did I never hear that the new SamSho collection had that unreleased version in it? Hell, I didn't even know there WAS an unreleased version. Guess I don't need my Wii collection disc anymore.

11:57 Red Earth did release outside Japan. In fact, Red Earth is the name of the game outside Japan, because inside Japan, the game is called War-Zard.

How do you feel about Arcade1Up? I ask because there's at least one Arcade1Up unit (though actually I think there's several) that are essentially compilations of the Marvel vs Capcom series... usually only excluding X-Men COTA and MvC2 (though both are available on different cabinets, MvC2 getting a dedicated stand-alone release).

I kinda have a love hate relationship with them only because on paper I love it but the fact that you can’t add games or upgrade your machine in anyway with how high their prices are drives me nuts

Awesome video you earned a new subscriber… I have almost every fighting game collection on ps4 an their mainly what I play and my roommates think I’m weird and it’s a shame because I have 2 fight sticks… Just bought samuria shodown collection and it’s amazing so far… I just hate how some come with ps2 versions and graphics rather than original arcade graphics… you better marry someone who appreciates you!

By the sheer number of SFII versions and ports alone on various lines of collections, the last remnants of video games will probably be some iteration of Street Fighter on some busted CD-ROM in 30XX

You could argue that the PS3 has the Fighting Collection with Tekken6, TTT2 and SoulCaliburV... But it just was one of those PS3 collections that had the 3 games blunded into the disc. Better that the Hybrid one with TTT1 and the movie tho.

So grateful I snagged the MK collection, MvC 2, and Jojo HFTF on PS3. MvC 2 was the very first thing I got for my PS3 12 years ago alongside BlazBlue Continuum Shift. Sadly couldn't snag Origins in time.

nice video! i tend to be a bit forgiving of more modern collections not having things present in the console versions- they usually run on emulation rather than porting the game from scratch, making it a lot more difficult to add stuff that wasn't in the original arcade versions beyond quality-of-life things (although full props to capcom fighting collection for including colour-blindness options for puzzle fighter). some games definitely suffer more for it- cyberbots in particular has a bunch of extras in the ps1 and saturn ports like playable boss pilots (including devilotte) and zero-gouki as a playable mech that aren't in the capcom fighting collection version- but i apreciate that those assets aren't necessarily easy to plug into an emulated version of the game, if they even still have those assets they can still use. also, i didn't realise the japanese version of the kof orochi collection was missing '94- my guess is that it was cut because snk had released a remake of the game, '94 re-bout, and i guess they wanted people to buy that instead, especially since it also included the neo geo version. i must admit i was really disappointed with the modern samurai shodown collection- the extras are very nice for sure but there's no training mode for any of the games, navigating the move lists takes way too long to scroll for some reason and the rollback netcode must be in name only because playing with a friend of mine who live in the same part of the country (the uk, so not even a state away in us terms) was just impossible, it was running in slow motion. we generally stick with the code mystics ports for snk games as the netcode is top quality. oh well!
@baberuthless Жыл бұрын
Oh shit your right the Sam show collection I don’t remember having a training mode?! Damn that’s a huge mark against the collection in my eyes. Also I do get why they don’t include home ports but really I just want my mecha Gouki in cyberbots 😭

I am wishful (but not hopeful as I know it’s so unlikely) of a Capcom Vs. compilation. Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom (USA edition), Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Capcom Vs. SNK 2, and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter (Japanese edition) top my list. I’m also dying to play SNK Vs. Capcom SVC Chaos again; whether in a compilation or on its own.
@NewGabeOrder6 ай бұрын
35:57 I thought '94 is a self-contained prologue to the KOF series as a whole. '95 started the Orochi saga with the introduction of Iori and whatever spoilers that are in the game's ending.

Oh, I just realized you skipped one, but it's understandable. ADK Damashii has two fighting games out of the five in the collection. One of them is Aggressors of Dark Kombat and the other is Ninja Master's: Haou Ninpou Chou, which was ended up being ADK's last fighting game since a World Heroes game was planned but not able to come out for the Neo-Geo Pocket Color. Also, Capcom should also team up with Arika to release a Street Fighter EX Collection as well, with all the different variations too. ^w^
