Tyler PLEASE when you are treating any kind of infection or puss or discharge, PLEASE use gloves and eye protection. You are such a great guy that is doing such an informative job, America needs more like you brother. I had a 10 k square foot compounding pharmacy that was 100% germ free. Don't underestimate the power of germs. Great job. Very positive channel brother. Neal

The bull calf (Big Boy) sure is growing nicely! And all your cattle really looks good. You have a nice herd, Tyler. Hope Big Boy's pink eye clears up good and doesn't pass into his other eye. I know in humans though pink eye usually gets in both eyes. You're a good cattleman and your Grandpaw would be very proud of you! You and the family have a great weekend! I live over in the mountains of northeast Tennessee and it's really looking and feeling like fall now with lows in the 30s and highs in the upper 60s. See you next time👋

Tickle me pink, i know about being mobbed while i'm trying to unload-unroll a round bail....my technique is give them enough whole corn or cubes in their feeders to give me a nice 5 minute start to head out and unload, cut and unroll hay while they are not around. Mr. Bull will head butt a large round bail and move the bail around like it's a toy (can't be behind or near a bail) and if the net-wrap is already cut...it's most impressive....the hay and dust fly 20 feet in the air like bomb going off. He'll have a foot tall hay hat and you can't even see him.

On someone else's U tube (sorry I forgot whose )he jury rigged a bale unrolled by driving a piece of rear through the center of the bale and used straps on each side to a 4 wheeler. He said he had to adjust the straps periodically but it worked pretty well. I enjoy your postings and have learned a lot. Thanks, I know they are lots of work.

I have a theory about why the soil is better in the spring where the round bales were rolled out in the fall. When you mulch plants, it retains moisture which allows the beneficial bacteria and worms etc to flourish. It seems to me logical to expect that to enrich the growth of the spring grass, even though the hay was not laid out to mulch the soil. Intention does not change the science here.

Callie on the hunt!😂 I like being proactive with pinkeye too. Too many bad things can happen if you risk not treating the infection. Pinkeye can lead to ulceration which results in a depression or a hole in the cornea, can cause blindness in the eye that is infected, and is considered highly contagious to other cattle. Other than the pinkeye, the young bull (Big Boy) looks good. He should provide a nice legacy for your farm in the future.

For about five years, I've unrolled the majority of my bales with a simple unroller that i built that mounts to the front of my tractor. My unroller is a simple frame with two small tires (something like heavy-duty wheelbarrow tires) that bolts to the bucket of the tractor , although it could probably mount to the front of the tractor. It might take a little searching online, but I'm sure you could find some ideas about how to build something similar.

Hi FTR, the weather changes you have noticed may be due to the Super Typhoons off of Asia. The typhoons have been strong enough to move the jet stream from its normal route. I believe La Nina is supposed to come into play this winter. If true, so much for good veggies up north this winter.

An old North Dakota Farmer taught me to pay attention to the Seasons. And around here. I'm only 75 miles away from FTR due west. So I did and I'd bet money or Round Bales that it usually start serious RAIN around Thanksgiving. We already received our normal first rain in late September or early October that starts the wild oats coming up. So I'm confident Thanksgiving Time is the Right time. Godspeed

Good job Dr. ! Our winter is a little different than yours, similar ideas but different needs of approaching it. I enjoy bale grazing in the winter, cows clean up a bale just as good if not better than a feed wagon or bale feeder. But in the winter what little is left makes good bedding. Also goes back to the soil. Other guys have set out many bales ahead of time and use the next row of bales as the fence holder. Young stock I have to use a feeder of some sort, steers will climb a good bale...

I've seen eyes popped way out and eyes completely gone from pinkeye, I've got 2 cows I bought from an old man that didn't want the trouble of treating pinkeye that had pinkeye about like your bull calf has , I gave them la300, nfz puffer and even put a patch on and they both still have a very blue eye on 1 side and thats been 5 years ago. I know if they didn't get treated they would have lost those eyes
