I just came from a channel that has made me physically nauseated. Have you seen this? kzbin.info/door/aw0DPc5zbcXVuvZQ586Jqg This Child and her boyfriend somehow bought a vervet and they are treating it like a dog. I can't stand it.

Yeah. I am aware, a few people have point it out and it makes me sick as well. It's a real shame because people like her promote the idea that its good to own a monkey. Sadly she's gonna be in for a big surprise when little boy max becomes a big aggressive and protective male monkey. Which will be terribly sad because she'll probably have him castrated and have his k9's removed. It really breaks my heart. Unfortunately its still legal to own monkeys as pets in the US, which is something we need to bring an end to. You'd think in this day and age people would be a little more clever and see the foolishness in doing such a thing, but I guess that's just wishful thinking.

Aww I love how the baby (Luka, I think) is clinging to his foster mom -- that little tail wrapping around mam's just kills me. You all really have an amazingly good game plan & rhythm there. Great work!

Ellen, no offense intended but that was very rude, especially if you cannot understand how much time, toil, and effort goes into not only the little you see but what you don't see. Be glad Kyle is willing to take time to provide these videos to bring awareness. If for some reason you became aware of this project you and everyone else just needs to do something to advance the work for the ultimate safety and sustainability for these beautiful creatures. I have just recently discovered this channel and I was completely blown away!! The love and kindness is indeed rare and Kyle receives no income for all he does. Thanks to whoever reads this for allowing me to open my heart.

I love seeing them all waiting at the fence, it reminds of when I go to Disneyland and if you get there before it opens and there’s the crowd of excited people just knowing what awaits them beyond the gate once it opens and you can see the joy, love, endless excitement and wonder of what’s to come in their eyes and I love seeing the troop so excited for their new babies every time and welcome with open arms, cuddles, all kinds of chattering and lip smacking it’s amazing!! ❤️

Wow, this video was so rewarding to see. Exciting new chapter awaits the little ones getting to join the big Troop family. I'm sure you've mentioned it, but how old are the babies who get to join the troops?... I'm pulling for the new guy (Pywoket??)... His name and Jr Jr, etc... I still get a kick out of all the names :)
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
lbird 😊 I love the names too, the more creative they are the better imo. The babies have to be three months old before we allow the mothers to take them out into the troop, this is because it’s the age when the babies in the wild are allowed to venture from their mothers side, which in our case means the babies are able to go into the feeding cages to drink milk.

I'm very happy you are dedicated to the care of these monkey's that can never be released in the wild! Thank you so much for educating people about not having these little monkeys as so called real babies!! They can't be tamed as adults. They should ban these animals as pets everywhere, except sanctuaries. I don't know where you are located. I would like to volunteer when I can. You see I've been very sick, and my life will end soon. I don't know, maybe I'd be best suited to volunteer in nursing homes with the elderly. But I'm interested In what you are doing. So far I've watched 8 of your video's in the past 16 hours. I absolutely love this channel and your videos. I have learned so much about the adorable vervet monkeys. I do have a couple of questions. I have watched all your videos more than once and do share them! I never knew that people get monkeys as pets by the moms being killed and sometimes the whole troop such as with a chimpanzee. When the babies finally get to the intro enclosure is there a certain length of time they stay with the foster moms before being taken out to join the troop, or is each case individual and depending on bonding etc? How do you keep track of who is who once they leave and are out with the troops? You do an absolute vital and amazing job!! I pray this foundation expands and that the local people realize how special these little guys are!! Thank you for the hard work! I can’t get enough of these videos and would rather watch these than boring tv!!! ❤️❤️ blessings to all!!

Mimi 2-3 Mimi 2-3 Thank you very much! The babies can only go out into the troop at 3 months old. So if a baby is younger than that we have to wait, if they are older than three months when they arrive or meet a mom then it’s just a matter of waiting till they see ready. The reason for three months is because this is the point where the babies are naturally inclined and allowed to leave their mothers side, which in our case means they can walk away from mom and go inside the feeding cage to drink. I agree it’s totally insane how people just disregard the complexity of life and relationships in other creatures simply for their own vanity. We received a new orphan yesterday from some people who found her at two weeks old and decided to keep her as a pet. Now that she is six months old, she’s big and rambunctious and has teeth and they suddenly realized they couldn’t care for her anymore and didn’t have fun with it so they just showed up unannounced and literally dropped the baby on our doorstep and now we have to spend the time and money to rehabilitate her and get her accustomed to other monkeys who she is petrified of. And these people made no effort to help for her further care or support or anything, they just dropped her with us because now she’s an inconvenience, and of course they think they did the right thing, which in some ways they did, but they could have brought her here 6 months ago and made everyone’s lives easier, especially the little girls... it’s just sad how selfish people can be. But thank you for your kind words and I’m really glad you’re enjoying the show. 😊✌️

You have been rescued...good to see you back in an intro enclosure! About 3/4th through the book...it is interesting to compare the studies to 'our' Vervets...you need to write a book about the foster program. It still amazes me how much compassion they show toward the babies and know what they need...I thought the Baboon had carried you off; but all work and no play makes for a dull time...WARN ME NEXT TIME...I was going into DTs and other withdrawals from my Vervet fix...lol😲😉🤣😅...now, time to go back and watch that cute little ex-pet...the Vervet (I guess you pass too...

"2 down, 15 to go" good luck! Why do not the foster mums have babies of their own? Are they neutered or there is no male in the group?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
marianne le bris thanks! The troops are balanced proportionality for males and females. All the males are vasectomized because we are not a breeding facility, merely a rescue and rehab center. But you do get the occasional sneaky male who wanders into the property and does his best to cause some mischief.

Once the babies leave with their moms, do they continue to interact or recognize their caregivers at all? Or is it a clean break with no further recognition or interactions?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
dispeaking1 generally by this point the babies are weary of humans. They dissolve their bond with us during their time in the intro enclosure when they have constant contact with the mom. There are some babies who are ex pets that have the tendency to be more communicative with humans once they are in the troop, and some individuals always stay interested in people. But there is no cut and dry answer for every monkeys, they are individuals just like us and their personalities and desires are unique to their history. There are a group of orphans from 2015 in Skrow troop who recognize me all the time because I filmed them so closely for so long and they constantly come over to the fence to investigate and get cheeky whenever they see me with the camera.

It amazes me how the foster moms (like human moms adopting human babies) love the babies as if they gave birth to them. It is a beautiful thing to see the babies that come to you flourish. Without you and everyone that helps there, it would be most likely probable that the babies have no future. God bless you all. I only have one question for you. If the foster mom isn’t the alpha female, when the foster mom and baby join their troop, has there ever been a situation where the alpha female ( or alpha male) didn’t accept the new baby in the troop?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 5 жыл бұрын
Shannon Escott Thanks! No there is never a problem accepting a baby into the troop, rather the more frequent scenario is that the alpha female ends up becoming a babies adoptive mother.

Have any former orphans matured to the point that they are now adoptive moms?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
FilmerOfBobcats oh yeah, totally. A lot of the females in the troops that are adopting are former orphans. Like Buffy in Skrow troop. Also you gotta consider even if these moms didn’t arrive as baby orphans, a lot of them arrived as juveniles. Which in my eyes still sorta makes them orphans simply because of the fact that Vervets are so family oriented and losing your whole family and having to start fresh at any age is never easy.

@VervetMonkey

Vervets are considered vermin in South Africa. People hit them with their cars, farmers shoot them, people use them for witchcraft and a lot of people keep them as pets. But during baby season there are obviously a lot more babies around and so a lot of those monkeys that are being killed by these various reasons are then found with a baby on their belly.

It's what we spend every day of our lives doing here at the VMF. It's part of the reason why we created this channel, why we promote the sanctuary through social media and why we try to educate and bring as many volunteers here as possible. The only way to change the minds of haters is to show that the compassion outweighs the hatred.

When these Foster babies suckle from their foster moms do they get milk from that or are they just doing that to pacify themselves?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
Melissa Breuklander since the moms didn’t give birth they are not lactating, so you are correct, the suckling is merely an action of comfort. This is why we need the feeding cages and bottles for the babies. ✌️

@VervetMonkey

sharon davis yes, whenever we can we try to release them back into the wild. Usually it’s the older injured individuals, but we must know the location of their troop because we can’t just release them to a troop that is not theirs unless they are a migratory aged male.

I have a question. If you neuter all the males, and with people out there killing mothers for their babies, won't there numbers start to decline? I have watched videos where there are so many babies for sale on streets in small cages. It's a total shame what ignorant people are doing to these beautiful monkeys. There are so many people with baby monkeys. It's wrong. It's absolutely beautiful what you do for these babies. It's fantastic watching the mothers get the babies. I just love these videos. Thank you all so much. I love you guys

Are the babies who need milk for a year always allowed by their foster moms to access it?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
Therese Ember yes. All babies need milk for their first year. It’s why we have to monitor the babies for days after we integrate them. We need to make sure they are getting their milk. It’s also why we wait till they are three months old to send them into the troop, because that’s when they are more able to leave their mothers side.
