We love HiPP! We actually use stage 1 last 6 months as long as baby is getting good iron sources from food. I honesty feel like the EU formulas are much better. Our babies have responded so well to it. I order in bulk directly from the Netherlands. There is also a FB where the admins personally communicate with suppliers in Europe to stay up to date on recalls or any problems.

Also formulas in Europe don’t cost as much as they do in the US. When I order in bulk, I can get a 900 gram can with internationals shipping for around $25. I can’t walk into Walmart and get the largest tub of regular Enfamil for that.

Hi Dr Young! As always great information, thank you! It’s interesting what you say about adhering to the WHO code concerning the marketing of formula. I totally agree with you that it is a great thing to be supportive of breastfeeding. However here in Australia we are very similar to Europe. But it also goes the opposite way where literally formula feeding is very much a taboo. Trying to get formula in hospital is a nightmare and you are required to sign a waiver - which triples the feeling of failure. And to top it off, doctors seem to know literally nothing about the actual ingredients and formulation of baby formula. Their attitudes are very much they are all the same. So health professionals are not educated on giving any sort of advice. So you are left to dr Google. I think meeting somewhere in the middle would be ideal. Coming up against the breast is best slogan you are met with Fed is the bare minimum. It’s just hard. Hard to get decent information. You have been the greatest resource I have found.

Oh and our formula ads are for toddler formula - and the children need to not look like babies basically- around 2.5 years old.

Since HIPP Dutch changed their formula (to follow DHA guidelines), it no longer says Organic in the title...why is this? Also, why did it drop from 900G of DHA to 800G? Very confusing, lol.

Hi dr.Bridget! For your information, USA is not the only place or country in the world that really big on formula marketing. I live in Indonesia (south east asia), and here, u can see at least 2 formula being advertise on every slot of commercial break. Well, consider that in Indonesia we sell LOTS of USA formula such as Similac and Enfamil and they are really big here. I really love your videos on formula information, especially because in Indonesia we don't get that kind of information and parents still believe that the expensive formula one is the best formula, the one formula that make our babies chunkier and squish-able (sorry for my language) is the perfect formula instead of reading the list of ingredient and nutritions. Thank u dr.Bridget! Best regards from Indonesia ❤❤

Hi, and thanks so much! Yikes, I need to travel more. As you know, I only consider myself an expert on US formulas and regulations. I love hearing how things are in other countries. It sounds like marketing is just as bad (and confusing!) in Indonesia. Also, I am so honored I have a viewer in Indonesia! Thank you so much for reaching out! xoxo

Most US suppliers are great about providing the information about which country the HiPP is coming from. There are tons of breaks downs of each formula. Often times they will send you a pdf of the ingredients and nutrient break downs.

Hi, I have a 5.5 month old who was born at 33 weeks. He will be 6 months on the 19th. I’m looking into starting him on Lebenswert but I don’t know if I should buy either stage 1 or stage 2. He’s not on any solids at all yet but we will be starting at 6 months. Any insight?

I agree us puts way too much iron. It's my understanding the added iron isn't even bioavailable. Too much iron cam oxidize in our bodies. Excess iron will be the next cholesterol, watch. I have hemochromatosis so I'm always aware of iron in food. Honestly I think it's why Americans are so overweight because we add too much iron to our food, especially bread. Increasing iron intake won't solve your anemia problems either. You need to increase your ceruloplasmin.

I can't speak for the marketing, but the fact that there is no coupons and the only source for information on formula is the doctor seems like you are punishing the mother/parent for choosing to formula feed. In my family we have a genetic anomaly that makes basically the women unable to breastfeed. Our milk has no or very little nutritional value so it cannot sustain our babies. After 5 generations of women that we know of only 3/4 have been able to successfully breastfeed even with diet changes and seeing multiple specialists. So, you grow up thinking about what formula you are going to use. This seems like formula feeding parents are some dirty little secret in society and that we should be ashamed. We should have to pay full price and God forbid if you reach out for buying suggestions. It is easy to say that formula marketing is a scam, but just like other products we consume if we don't know they exist then how can put in the work to research them. I'm not saying that formula is the be all that ends all, but what I am saying it to treat families who depend on formula like it is some unhealthy poison you give your child like cigarettes is wrong and quite frankly hurtful. I'm tired of researching formulas and have to click on the little warning telling me that I acknowledge that breast is best before they will let me see their product. It is just another way to shame me further and if I could I would, but I can't so just stop and help me. I appreciate this video because it helps those of looking for the cold hard facts about formula. Thank you
