Hi Dr. Young. I am a pediatric nurse practitioner. I can't thank you enough for posting these lectures. I have been studying your Happy Hour Lectures for weeks, taking notes and sharing pearls of knowledge with my collaborating physician. You are a god send ♡

Oh this post made my day. I am SO happy!! I am in the process of developing a CME course for pediatricians so they can handle all these questions in their office (covered by parents' insurance!) . Props to you for seeking out info that will help your patients on your own time!

Do you by chance know the carb ratio in HIPP comfort?
@kariolsen7914 жыл бұрын
Hi Dr Young! I’m hoping you can reply to this! My baby is currently on Enfamil Gentlease for gas and fussiness on the regular Enfamil Infant. She seems to be doing GREAT on Enfamil Gentlease. Much happier. However she drinks much less and fusses at the bottle. I THINK she doesn’t like the taste. Do you recommend a different formula similar to Gentlease that may taste better?? Since I know Gentlease works well, I hate to change it but she just doesn’t hardly drink as much as she used to in the regular kind! Thank you!

And then also- if it’s just that she was having gas problems on the first formula (infant Enfamil) is it more likely that it’s a protein thing or a lactose thing? I’m debating switching to either similac sensitive or Similac Total Comfort. Simply because she doesn’t like Gentlease!

My baby is 6 months old and has been on HIPP HA since she was 4 months. She was a very colicky baby so I put her on HA. My husband is a type 1 diabetic. Should I keep her on a partially hydrolyzed formula or am I ok to move her to the HIPP staged formula?

Thanks a lot for the detailed information. Could you please comment on another partially hydrolyzed formula Nan Optipro HA?

Hi! Very informative video. My baby is on Gerber Gentle for supplementation. I may run out before my next WIC voucher date. I have some Gerber sooth and Enfamil gentlease. Would either of these be okay to give for a few days between my next formula run?

Hi Dr. Young, first of all thank you sooo much for all the information you provide to all the world! You rock! 😁 I've been watching your happy hours and I've been meaning to change the formula to my baby because she is gassy and I dont have a lot of breast milk supply.... so I wanted to ask you if my husband and I have family history of diabetes is it better to give partially hydrolyzed formula to my baby? I haven't decided which one as I want one that 100% lactose but there are none, so does it really make a difference this kind of formula for history of diabetes?
@BabyFormulaExpert5 жыл бұрын
Well if she has already been on an intact protein formulas, then it doesn’t matter, so you have lots of options. A lactose reduction may help with the gas possibly. Or you can consider Plum Organics Gentle which is partially hydrolyzed and 100% lactose (and organic!). Be sure to ask your doc what they think before making any changes.

I used earths best infant gentle. Although my daughter seems to be fine, she has started to have tummy issues. Specifically, her stomach makes noises and she has started to become uncomfortable. Our pediatrician wants to try Similac Pro Total Comfort. Do you believe this will be ok, or would Gerber Gentle be better since it has the same 70% lactose, 30% maltodextrin but is partially hydrolyzed (whereas infant gentle is 50/50 hydrolyzed)?
@BabyFormulaExpert5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie - Yes, I agree that Gerber Gentle is a good substitute for Total Comfort - they have the same protein base but Gerber Gentle has 70% lactose, and Total Comfort has less than 1% lactose. If your doc wants more of a lactose-reduced formula, Gerber Soothe has 30% lactose. So you have lots of options within the partially hydrolyzed whey category. I truly hope that helps her feel more comfortable!

Hello! First off, thank you SO much for these videos! My baby is currently on Enfamil Neuropro but has been gassy and spitting up. I wanted to try gentlease Neuropro.. would I need to switch it slowly or since they are both Neuropro formulas, could I just switch?
@BabyFormulaExpert5 жыл бұрын
you will be going down in protein size so you can faster (like over 3 days as opposed to 7-10 days). But I never recommend a cold-turkey switch .... even when moving from a ready-to-feed to the powder version of the same formula! There are often subtle differences (perhaps in sourcing of ingredients and additives) that can trigger really sensitive babies. It's always best to go gradually.

My daughter was on similac neosure but had bad gas, I tried enfamil gentleease but she started spitting up ALOT. I am breastfeeding/pumping but need supplementation here and there. What would you recommend.
@BabyFormulaExpert5 жыл бұрын
Hi Angel. Was she premature? (Neosure is a formula for premature babies) and has more calories than Gentlease. So, you really need to ask your Dr. It's hard for me to make any specific recommendation in this case. I will say - mix the formulas with breast milk as much as you can. This will help her tolerate whatever formula you choose better. Good luck!!

We switched our son to Nutramigen at 5 weeks due to a tiny bit of blood/mucus in stool and rash(after being on Newborn formula then Infant formula). If my son has a cows milk protein allergy is that to both casein and whey??? I believe Nutramigen still contains casein and so did the other previous formulas we tried Would it be ok to try Similac Total comfort 100% whey ?????????? I've been searching for an answer to my question online with no luck and a doctor my son saw said all formulas are the "pretty much similar" which I knew was not true but didn't bother getting into it 😒
@BabyFormulaExpert6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mama, you poor thing. Well, here's what I can tell you. When a kiddo has an allergy, it is to either a casein or whey protein, but we aren't able to diagnose the exact culprit protein. Nutramigen is hypoallergenic which means fully hydrolyzed. Even though it is 100% casein, the proteins are so broken down that they will not induce an allergic reaction, even in kids with a true cow's milk allergy (to either casein or whey proteins). Alimentum is the same base. Gerber HA is fully hydrolyzed 100% whey so it's a little different, but all these hypoallergenic formulas should be safe for any cow's milk allergy. Total comfort (and Gerber Gentle and Soothe) are partially hydrolyzed 100% whey. So if your little man has a sensitivity to a casein protein, he may be OK on a partially hydrolyzed 100% whey protein. But if he has been tested and diagnosed with a true cow's milk allergy, then I think it's safer for him to stay on a hypoallergenic formula since you don't want to risk causing inflammation in his gut. You are dealing with some pretty advanced medical concepts here - keep up the great work!! You are doing an awesome job researching for your little angel.
@408jaz6 жыл бұрын
Baby Formula Expert thanks so much! I did try Total comfort and his stools turned different again so to not risk anything he's staying on Nutramigen until doctor thinks he'll be ok to try regular formula
