Just to add a little perspective, this song was right after headbanger when she hits the gong and collapses, the lights go down and when they come back up she is still in the same spot. The next song after this is Babymetal Death where she gets crucified lol. She has the most amazing voice as you said no one can replicate it, plenty of singers can hit those notes but very few could match the power she has in that range.

The innocence and sweetness in her voice is what gets me. She acts out the story with her voice but she never over does it. Other singers may have better voices technically but they would likely try to do too much and ruin it. Su's relatively simple way of singing is perfect.

⚡ / 🔴 🌙 Su can really sell a sad song. I'd love to see her in a dramatic role in a movie. The last two lines of the song, "Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!" are left out in this "Unfinished version". Here's the prologue to 'Akatsuki' in Legend "1997": In order to defend the soul of the Metal, in exchange for her own life, SU-METAL fought. Before long, SU-METAL's soul became the crimson flame, and dyed the sky crimson. However, as the distant stars go out, the end of life is the law of nature. I see this as being the 2nd song in a trilogy for the ending of Su's 16th birthday concert..."Headbanger", "Akatsuki (Unfinished Ver.)", and "BABYMETAL DEATH". I see the 3 songs as part of the coming of age story line where it is time for Su (and BABYMETAL) to move on from her idol/pop life and be reborn as a metal goddess. "Headbanger" is about her special night which she will never forget, and at the end she collapses after she hits the gong which is usually done to end something or to announce something (this part also is an homage to X Japan). She next performs "Akatsuki (Unfinished Ver)" which she sings about cherishing the endless love she has for someone, in this case I believe she is singing about cherishing the idol/pop life (Sakura Gakuin) she has leave behind (which is probably why she seemed to almost come to tears during the song). Then comes "BABYMETAL DEATH" where she is crucified as an idol/pop star and is reborn as a metal goddess! BTW, Su's first song in this concert is actually a VERY pop song (AND was lip-synched)... the dance/techno performance of "Headbanger" called "Headbanger night of 15 mix" BUT the show ends with the most metal performance ever...a crucifixion of a teen girl. Also the concert starts with the Babybones band (BABYMETAL's original fake band) and part way through the show they are replaced by the Kami Band. If I am correct, this is the Kami Band's first show with the girls. Both of these points further focus on the theme of Su and the group's coming of age and moving on from the idol/pop group Sakura Gakuin, and becoming an independent group. 🦊🤘

Guys, you need to get rid of the hyphens in your BABYMETAL names (not that it matters to be honest, it's still pretty cool)! :D A small, but probably totally uninteresting Japanese lesson: It's only "Su-metal" because the hyphen represents a drawn out or second vowel sound in Japanese (and probably so she also has a three letter name, like Moa and Yui). On to the more relevant stuff, aka the video: Great reaction! I'd love to see her sing this song and especially this version of it with her matured vocals. But it would probably be the last song of the show because they would need to clear the venue afterwards when the tears of the audience caused a flooding. For me it's not really (only) about the amazing singing abilities that stand out when it comes to Su, I think her biggest talent is to bring the feelings of a song across without the need to understand what she sings. And she only became better at that over the years.
@henrymessenger63293 жыл бұрын
When I joined THE ONE, I got a hyphenated metal name (of my choice). The hyphen was not optional.
@ANDOR-3 жыл бұрын
@@henrymessenger6329 My first sentence was meant as a joke because it was the first time I noticed it, sorry if you misunderstood. But I wonder why they make the hyphen mandatory when you need to choose your name. Su has a hyphen because the "u" is a drawn out vowel, that's how you write something like this in Katakana, for example the drawn out "yaa" (or yā) in Headbanger: ヘドバンギャー (Hedobangyā). And maybe because they wanted/needed her to have a 3 letter name, but that's just speculation on my part.
@henrymessenger63293 жыл бұрын
@@ANDOR- Sorry if I took things too literally :) I had always assumed the dash was to tell the reader that the first syllable of Su-metal should be "Su" not "Sum." But they do make the hyphen mandatory when you join THE ONE.
@henrymessenger63293 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, also I am really far from a Romanji expert, I am still getting used to the silent Us.
@ANDOR-3 жыл бұрын
@@henrymessenger6329 No sweat. I really need to use the KZbin emojis to make them more visible. The whole Katakana explanation is nothing official (at least not that I know of), I'm just assuming because it's used in Katakana and Japanese spelling in general for the purpose of showing drawn out and/or emphasized vowels at the end of a word. Usually you'd write ā (aa), ū (uu), ī (ii), ō (oo), ô (ou) in romaji if you want to "translate" the hyphen, but I think they probably wanted to make it simpler for westerners with the "Su-metal" spelling and it looks better than "Suumetal". The u wouldn't really be silent without the hyphen in this case, but it would be pronounced differently in Japanese if it would only be "Sumetal". I don't really know all the rules when the vowels are really silent and when they're not (Japanese is way too complicated in every sense), but short pronounced vowels are often mute when they're between or after letters like k, s, t, h etc and it's the last character/syllable of a word, like in Dais[u]ki, Des[u] or the ending syllable "sh[i]ta". Sorry for the wall of text, I think Japan(ese) is super interesting and I tend to ramble on when it comes to something like this even though I don't know if the other person is bored to death or not 😇

Here are the lyrics guys, but some are not the same as this (Unfinished version) some sections have been removed and not being Japanese I don't know which ones have changed. This will give you a good idea about what the song is about. You can tell this song has special meaning for SU-Metal as she starts crying near the end of the song and her mascara starts running.. If look closely in the next song "DEATH" when she is being crucified and they lean her back you can clearly see the tracks of her tears from the previous song of Akatsuki. Going over thousands of nights, some love shall survive. So, until my body perishes, until my life disappears, I shall keep on cherishing this love. Shining in the depths of the eyes, the moon is about to cry. Red tears overflow and dye the night sky. In the silence, the two damaged blades stand face to face. Our loneliness and our uneasiness slash even our hearts. Going over thousands of nights, some love shall survive. So, until my body perishes, until my life disappears, I shall keep on cherishing this love. In the passage of time, I keep my eyes shut. Even if the red thread flowing in my hand breaks, I still feel we are tied. In the silence, I hold the damaged blade face to face. My loneliness and my uneasiness, I slash, even my heart, now. Going over thousands of nights, some love shall survive. So, until my body perishes, until my life disappears someday... Going over thousands of nights, some love shall survive. So, until my body perishes, until my life disappears, I shall keep on cherishing this love. Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!

I don't know why people recommends this version as a first watch to reactors, it is confusing. Akatsuki is very different to this, and it is one of the most awesome Babymetal has. This is a melodic version that was performed only once, at the Legend 1997 show, to commemorate the special moment that was Su-metal birthday. In the storyline of that show, this was the second from the last song. Here Suzuka is suposed to burn her wings with the power of her voice to dye the moon red and remove an enchantment to save the world of metal, sacrificing her soul in the process. She is saying good bye to an unknown love. The song ends with _Akaku somare! Makka ni somare!_ (Dye red! dye bloody red!). The next and last song of the show was Babymetal Death, a ritual to resurrect her with the soul of an ancient metal warrior (the statue on the background).
@rickwagner-3 жыл бұрын
This song usually ends with "Akaku somare! Makka ni somare!", but those two lines are left off in this "Unfinished Version". I also prefer the heavier version of this song, but I think it's fine to hear this song in either order, as long as you don't skip the usual version altogether.

True. To be fair though if you take out any component of BabyMetal it just wouldn't be the same.

Over the next few weeks, Pandemic permitting, Babymetal will be performing all of their back catalogue, including all of the neglected/seldom sung songs at The Nippon Budokan. I don’t know how they could approach the Black Babymetal metal stuff, but they have played some of their Juvenal is - Gimme Chocolate- into their maturer phase.

@@dicodec two concerts down - next in 16 February. They had identical sets - mainly from the first album, with some exceptions such as Starlight. The next two will have the same sets as each other and so on. Only Japanese residents are seeing these shows because of travel restrictions, but with only 5000 allowed in each concert and massive over demand many are left disappointed. I notice quite a few are breaking the unspoken rule in Japan about not fancamming. Band-Maid cancelled their Unseen World concert at The Budokan next week, I had assumed because of COVID, but apparently not

"Going over thousands of nights some love shall survive, so until my body perishes, until my life disappears, I will continue to protect it." Hey guys, good reaction! "Akatsuki" is such a sad song about love lost. This unfinished version hits me right in the feels every time. The normal version is so up beat but the lyrics so tragic that I don't know whether to head bang or cry.

Thanks! Yeah the finished definitely hits different for sure I heard it and it was epic

This is a good performance. Think the whole sitting on the step kinda goes well to convey a sad, but hopeful feeling. (Edit: which you pretty much said) Song works well both as cool melodic metal, or a ballad.

I will not be making a habit of posting such a long take on a song. Because this is my favorite song I will. Japanese does not literally translate into English. Akatsuki has a double meaning, red dawn or red moon. This song is a nod to XJapan's song Kurenai. Listen to both songs. Ikusen mono yoru-okoete. Many thousands nights. Ikitsuzukera ai-ga arukara. A reason to continue to live and love. A continuing love. Kano-karado ga horobiru made. Until this body of mine perishes. Mamori tsuzukete yuka. Continue to defend this love. Cherish my love until I die. Hitomi-no oku-ni hikaru. Deep inside the pupils of my eyes sparkle. Nakidashiso-na tsuki-wa. Moon is about to start to cry. Akai namida afurete. Overflow with red tears. Yozora-o someteyuku. Night sky dyed in red. Seijaku-no naka-de. Inside the middle of silence. Kizutsuita yaiba. Past scar from the edges of a full sword. Kodoku-mo fuan-mo kiritsukeru kokoro-made. Fear of loneliness attacks cut my heart. ( Fear of loosing you cuts my heart.). If you are going to offer meanings to songs please do your homework not just heard something somewhere. Some of the posts I see are shots in the dark. 🤘🦊🤘. Darn auto correct. It is not a full sword but a dull sword.
