Great video! I find that the more I increase the potential of vulnerability (i.e., walking with another of whom I feel protective, including my tiny dog), my awareness of the space behind me increases. Really appreciated your mention of your research as well as your books that specifically delve into this topic. Great series, Joe! I look forward to each installment. Thank you!

What a great detail of body language! Aside from our physical behavior, how we choose to space ourselves from other people communicates a lot too. I love how you even observed the birds!😂 I really enjoy your videos and all the insights. Thank you from Thailand❤️

In 3rd world and poorer countries, the small or lack of personal space could mean that you have a population with a culture of enmeshment, where people have low EQs due to mental illness, people don't respect personal boundaries, privacy, or individuality. You can notice people get a very strong emotional reaction to someone's personal choices or opinions... Etc. A lot of creatives who are neurodivergent suffer in such environments.

Yes humans are very complex and when you get into cultures and neurodivergent behaviors it gets very complex. Thank you

WOW, very interesting observation Sir. Never thought about time factor. QQ: Does sex of the person play a role as well? Meaning is a man more tolerable of a woman being closer than another man
@joenavarrobehaviorexpert

Yes to your question and height is a factor also. Too tall the person can seem imposing

@joenavarrobehaviorexpert I've found that keeping the distance that makes me and them appear about the same size works. Like if I'm standing and talking to a person whose seated, I will give them enough distance to make myself smaller in their eyes.

Thanks for another interesting video Joe. I’d like to ask your thoughts on the effect of the covid 19 social distancing on spatial awareness? I know here in the UK we’ve had historical pandemics and the US had the polio pandemic of 1916 and the flu pandemic of 1918, it seems the spatial distances always return to the cultural norms, is that because they are embedded in our behaviour? Many thanks Joe.

Our species has a need for human contact. During Covid I was asked will we ever shake hands again. Yes I said, humans need touch. We need to be proximal but not too much, It is in our DNA
