I was very excited about Alice but I was pretty disappointed by the game's level design. Some levels are so short, others are irritatingly long, but I just didn't feel they made a fluent combat system. Maybe my expectations were too high at the time, but I heard Madness Returns made tremendous improvements.

I can confirm: When it came out, American McGee's Alice was amazing visually. I remember when I first got to the room at 15:50, I stood there gawking for several minutes at everything going on. Plus, it has what's probably one of the most underrated game soundtracks ever composed (from Chris Vrenna of industrial music production fame).

You should play Last Story sometime! It's pretty short for an RPG (15 hours or less, most likely), and a lot of fun. My favorite part of it is knocking over bowls of fruit or throwing banana peels, then watching passers-by slip and fall. I even did this once right before triggering a serious cutscene, and then the whole time the cutscene was playing out, NPCs were slipping and falling and screaming in the background -- it was hilarious!
@TibrisXVII8 жыл бұрын
Wyrdwad yeah, i chuckled when he described it as a super long RPG.
@chriswheatley31468 жыл бұрын
My favorite part was the comedic cutscene late in the game. I can't say much more without spoiling it though. :) But yeah, it was definitely pretty short as I had finished it in less than a week; even with a busy schedule.

Wyrdwad I'm still wanting to play this and Pandora's tower. I was able to get a copy of Xenoblade back in 2012 (hard game to find) and put dozens of hours in to it. it's actually one of my favorite RPGs ever. the Wii had so many good games and was fun to collect for cause most games were cheap. you could have a library of at least 50 good Wii games.

Alice: Madness Returns is one of my favorite games and one of very few platforming action games I like. Always loved the Alice stories as a child so I played the original as a teen on the mac. Being someone who's dealt with mental health issues of my own and those around me and has been abused by the medical system before, some scenes in this game cut me straight to the core, but I love it's conclusion all the more for it. It truly is damn near criminal that the kickstarter for American McGee's take on the Wizard of Oz failed to reach its goals, because very little would have made me happier than to see how he tackled that story.

I liked seeing the Alice: Madness Returns footage. I had the first game on PC back in game and enjoyed what I played, despite not getting very far. My Dad ended up buying A:MR for the Xbox360 a few years ago, complete with the download code for the original. While we did play a bit of the original between us (save files are weird for that game when two people want their own files), neither of us have yet played Madness Returns. So, one ramble later, my point is, you've just reminded me of my own backlog and made me want to make a start on Madness Returns.

Illbleed is a great game. I'm ashamed to say I still haven't finished it, but once you get your head around the gameplay and get passed the first stage, the game should click for you. Alice (the first one) was a fantastic game for the PC (with an AMAZING soundtrack to boot!) although it did get a little long in the tooth toward the end. It was still pretty damn good, and I recommend playing through it whenever you get the chance. While Madness Returns was also very good, I felt that the soundtrack wasn't nearly as good as the original, and the gameplay got old a LOT faster. Again, it's not a bad game, but it does get quite mindless after a while, and boredom can set in. The one definite positive I can give it is the fact that the game looks amazing in terms of art direction. It's a little buggy here and there, but it still makes quite a nice screen shot game.
