I just want to thank you for leaving this video here on youtube! our power steering went out on our 2008 HHR we live in the mountains and had a heck of time getting home. we took the car to advance auto where a young man came out and was checking everywhere, i told him what you had showed me and wal-la its fixed, he said here we three men are and mechanics at that, and had no idea what to do and a woman watching youtube fixes it! ha! so thank you very much!!!

Nora Blevins so you have a 2008 HHR and your power steering went out and you changed the fuse and it started working again?

THANK YOU!!! Not only did you save me a ton of money, but also the worry and hassle of driving without power steering over NYE and New Years and for days after until my local dealership could possibly get me in! I don't know much of anything about car repair, but I taught the local Auto Zone mgr a couple of things today! And I replaced it myself--am feeling quite accomplished!

Dude, you are NOT a knuckle head. You just saved me (single female living out in the woods even). So my battery died, all windows down. Couldn't FIND the battery! Turns out HHR hides it in the back near the spare but... you can't get the door open if the locks won't work. PLUS there was an oven sitting on the panel above. Anyway... it got much crazier still. But! Solved the steering nonsense thanks to you. Chevy HHR... the dumbest car I've ever owned in my long life.

I hear you there. It was great when I got mine, moved up from a 2001 Nissan Frontier to a 2008 HHR. However, I had more problems in two years of owning an HHR than I did the 11 years I owned a Nissan. In fact, I made the change because my Nissan had over 300,000 miles on it and I heard that was about all you could expect out of one. A deacon at my church bought my Nissan off of me and it's still running great. Not counting the deer incident, which could happen with any vehicle, I've had to get constant repairs. Just in the past three weeks I've had to put a new starter in it (fortunately when it went out I was parked right at the barrier between my bank and the garage next door), my temperature gauge (and the related display in the info panel) decided it was only going to work at random intervals, and on my way home just today the power steering went out (though when I shut my car off and started it up again in my driveway it was working). It's the only case of buyer's remorse I've ever had. I can't even get to the belt or the headlights, which were two of the few things I could replace on my Nissan without a mechanic walking me through. If you're too paranoid to trust jacks enough to get under a jacked up vehicle it has to go on a lift just for a simple headlight change.

You could have taken the car to get the part. I drove for years without power steering when I couldn't afford to replace the pump in my previous vehicle. Did it again on the way home from my parents' house just now. In fact, I found this video while trying to figure out where to put the power steering fluid in an HHR.

Thanks for the advice, I thought it was going to cost me 100s of dollars to repair. Mine is a 2006 and a note, the fuse is the long profile one, they also have a low profile.

I paid $300 plus to fix my powersteering a few years ago... Phooey! At the dealership... It took possibly 30 mins to 1hr to complete. And it was possibly a FUSE!... I needed that money... I'm mad...😣

Why didn't I find this video 2 days ago. I paid a shop $80 to diagnose the problem. Then half that, $40, to put a fuse in. 😡🤬

Omg... im so sorry man. Honestly…? Whenever I have a problem with anything anymore, I’ll look it up on KZbin before I go anywhere to fix. I’ve learned how to do so many silly things for myself. From fixing the fuse on my car to changing the hard drive in my PlayStation. It is so much cheaper and easier just to do it yourself.

I changed the fuse like you said, and my power steering came back. But, its gone yet again. I remembered that I also have a heat/ac blower motor that has shorted out due to the infamous in-dash water leak these cars have. I'm wondering if the shorted out fan may be causing the power steering fuse to blow out?

Biggest mistake for any manufacturer to do. Replacing the simple hydrolic steering system for electric. Too many parts to go bad with electric.
