Reminds of my last landlord who, I'm not joking or exaggerating, moved in a drug addict and an alcoholic parolee into the shared house. They were disgusting, loud, invited other unsavory people in at all hours, and got along as well as you'd think leading to several fist fights. And besides all that, the AC went out in the middle of FL summer and the landlord refused to replace this 25 year old system and instead essentially taped it and put a lock on the dial and set it to 80, which was especially great since that house had terrible insulation and my room heated up like a microwave. Also my sink stopped working a week in and was never fixed in the year I was there. We had constant power surges and the shared bath leaked. And the cherry on top was I found a snake in the kitchen once and many other small creatures around the home. Needless to say, he was a top tier bs artist that landlord.

The same thing happened to me, but it wasn't rats, it was bed bugs. Told the landlord about the bed bugs and they dropped a bottle of pesticide outside my apartment. By some fucking miracle, I actually managed to get rid of them. And these were the salad days before the winter of no heat or hot water. The landlord had the unmitigated gall to get pissed off at us for calling the city on them. That's what $1400/month could get you in NYC in 2007.
